About Philip Hume

Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.

Philip Hume purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Philip Hume chose Ludlow

We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!

What makes this cabin unique

We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

The property was very quirky, but homely 😀

  • 4 of 5

The property was nice but it was a little tired, needed a little bit of a spruce and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the directions given were great! They left us bread, milk, cheese, butter, teas, coffee etc very welcoming! It was nice looking out on the sheep, chickens and ducks. Our labradoodle was very interested until they made a noise!! Ludlow, itself was a very nice interesting place to visit and not far away.

Picturesque but decor needs an update and seating is uncomfortable.

  • 3 of 5

The studio has everything you need inside and the lovely little extras like fresh homemade bread and cakes to milk and butter. The only downfall is the seating is uncomfortable and could do with replacing apart from that it is ideal if you want to get away from everything as it is very secluded.

Heaven in Herefordshire

  • 5 of 5

After the long drive from Norfolk to Herefordshire we were blown away by this property.

Philip and Jenny made us feel most welcome, inside the property we were greeted by locally sourced provisions and homemade bread that was still warm!

The location is so quiet, idyllic and beautiful, you are surrounded by woodland that is brimming with bird and wildlife, I'm still trying to look up some of the birds I spotted as I just casually looked out of the window. I loved the hoots of the owls as I had my early morning tea.The skylights in the property are a lovely feature, by day you can see the clouds drifting over head along with the majestic movement of the treetops, by night you can see the night sky with no light pollution. The property is fully equipped to a very high standard, if you want to spend the day indoors you have satellite TV and a DVD player. The kitchen has a dishwasher, washer and a dryer. This is a great base to have if you wish to venture out to the near by towns of Ludlow, Tenbury Wells etc or slightly further afield to the Malvern Hills and "Elgar Country"! We only stayed 4 days but we felt more rejuvenated than we have done after a week away. Philip and Jenny are incredibly discreet, on hand if you need them but inconspicuous enough to make you feel you are in you're own world.

During our stay we had almost a foot of snow, Philip and Jenny were so accommodating to our needs, they thought of everything. Thank you for the care you gave to my wife, myself and our very young children. You really do go above and beyond what is expected of property owners. Thank you so much, looking forward to seeing you in October 2018.

Comfortable accommodation in stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

The accommodation was clean and cosy and there at lots of little extras that made it really special. The upstairs living area with large windows and skylights make you feel as though you are sitting among the treetops and you can watch the birds flitting around from branch to branch close up.We were provided with some lovely vegan treats on our arrival which was very thoughtful and kind of the hosts. The surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed some fantastic walks right form the doorstep with our dog. We don't usually visit the same place twice as we like to explore new areas each time we go on holiday but we loved this studio so much that we plan to book it again to experience the woodland setting at a different time of year.

It is only ten minutes from historic Ludlow with its medieval castle, excellent food outlets and many festivals.

Lying in 'the Welsh Marches', the area has numerous castles, churches and historic houses - including two National Trust properties, five castles, and twelve or more historic churches all within 15 minutes drive.

There are many beautiful gardens to be visited and enjoyed.

In addition, the black and white villages of Herefordshire are only a short distance away. The historic city of Hereford lies half an hour away.

Local traditions are strongly maintained in the area with Morris dancing, wassailing and other rural spectacles still to be enjoyed.

Hay on Wye with its literary festival, the glories of Chirk castle, the mountains of central Wales, Worcester and the Malvern Hills, the Seven Valley Railway, the West Midlands Safari Park, the World Heritage Site of Iron Bridge Gorge, historic Shrewsbury are all no more than an hours drive away.
