About Philip Hume

Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.

Philip Hume purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Philip Hume chose Shropshire

We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!

What makes this cabin unique

We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

Perfect hosts and a property suitable for most small groups I would imagine. Generous provisions and help on offer. We had a lovely three days with our toddlers. We'll be back!

A little slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Superb stay. The owners put a really good selection of essentials out bread milk butter along with lots of other things, the owners could not do enough for us.

For a quiet time only the countryside to listen to this place is ideal.

Plenty of walking to be had, places to visit Ludlow was really nice with the markets.

We had a lovely stay!

  • 5 of 5

So where to start? We got to 'the studio' on the Friday, the place is gorgeous, homely, clean and everything you need. We cooked lovely meals and relaxed watching tv at night after a day of the walking. We visited Ludlow which is just as lovely, the castle was interesting. I'd definitely go back. Thank you for such a lovely stay. Xx

Relaxing Christmas Break in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Spent a wonderful few days in the Studio over Christmas. Very warm and cosy and well maintained woodland retreat. Great location went on some lovely walks near by. Would definitely recommend.

Hope to return soon.

Splendid New Year break!

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay this year and what a lovely place to be to see in the New Year! Once again we had a fantastic break, love this place! So peaceful away from it all, so cosy and warm too. Philip and Jenny are so welcoming and helpful and the homemade bread and mince pies went down a treat. Lovely area for walking and my Dachshunds had a great time watching the squirrels outside the window! Highly recommend a stay at The Studio, we will certainly be looking to return for another break in 2017.

hide away in dramatic woodland

  • 4 of 5

The studio was perfectly kitted out for a three day Christmas retreat. Jennie and Philip were very hospitable, and fresh food had been life which was a lovely touch. We would visit again. The property was dog friendly with access to a secure veranda to dry them and gates to keep them on the wipe clean surfaces
