About Philip Hume

Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.

Philip Hume purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Philip Hume chose Shropshire

We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!

What makes this cabin unique

We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

A perfect haven, away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the studio and felt so relaxed and at home.

The little personal touches like freshly baked bread and cakes and the fresh eggs were delightful and made us feel so welcome.

Our children just loved it and we all wanted to stay longer, I had to promise to book again soon.

Away from it all and yet a lovely drive to Ludlow , a beautiful town we all thoroughly enjoyed.

And we had glorious weather. Perfect and thank you so much!

A lovely setting for a lovely property.

  • 4 of 5

The Studio is a lovely little property with living area on the top floor to make the most of the outdoor seating area and views. It is set in a very quiet wooded valley with good access to walks in the surrounding countryside . A good base to explore a lovely area. We really enjoyed our stay . The owners were friendly and the welcoming pack very much appreciated.

Great location.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there with 2 friends for 4 nights & loved it, the property is in an excellent location for visiting several towns etc, we went to Hereford, Leominster, & Ludlow, we also visited a couple of National trust properties nearby, there's lots of history in the area, the owner (Philip Hume) has written a book of the area, highlighting the importance of the Mortimer family, there's plenty of great walks to be had as well.

The accommodation has all you could need, with fresh eggs, milk, butter & home made bread & cakes on arrival.

Thanks to Philip & Jenny for making our stay memorable.

3rd visit, just getting better.

  • 5 of 5

Visited this time with friends who also loved the studio. Clean, comfortable, warm, friendly, generous provisions, beautiful surroundings. Apart from a wonderful stay in the studio we also enjoyed long walks, Sunday lunch in the local pub and doing the black and white village tour. Will be returning hopefully before the end of the year. Thank you Phil and Jenny.

Perfect for a short stay away from it all

Perfect hosts and a property suitable for most small groups I would imagine. Generous provisions and help on offer. We had a lovely three days with our toddlers. We'll be back!
