About Philip Hume

Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.

Philip Hume purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Philip Hume chose Ludlow

We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!

What makes this cabin unique

We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the studio, the accommodation was first class with a multitude of entertainment ( books, CD's, DVD's, games and an excellent sky TV package) to keep you occupied after a long day walking the hills. Jenny and Philip were perfect hosts and made sure everything was available the first minute you entered the studio, the freshly cooked bread, cakes, milk, tea bags, eggs and much much more ensured there was no panic to rush to the shops on our arrival. Philip has made a great effort to ensure lots of information, maps of the local area all marked out with different walks for all abilities, booklets for all local activities were available. We really enjoyed sitting out on the decking early doors to hear the woods come alive. Great place to stay and we will be returning soon.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We arrived and was greeted by a very warm welcome from Philip & Jenny.

Once inside WOW... what an amazing place, so bright and light from the roof windows, which made it so nice to either sit inside or outside on the fully enclosed decking, We sat outside eating lovely warm bread & cheese all supplied by the owners, as with so many other items too many to list.Never have we been to any accommodation that has been so well equipped with all the essentials you could possibly need. Even our dog had treats and towels to dry him. And an extra plus Sky TV & Sky Sports ....could not ask for more ,

Would highly recommend this lovely Studio

Just perfect x

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the studio was just fabulous , Phillip and Jenny were perfect hosts nothing was too much for them even providing freshly made bread , cake cheese and eggs that were laid by their hen and ducks ( just perfect) the location of the studio is superb, woodlands galore , was lovely hearing the birds sing instead of the roar of a car engines!

We heard an owl , saw a buzzard and watched the squirrel on the wire right outside our window twas amazing .

The studio is a perfect getaway , a little gem to just relax and enjoy nature at its best !

Philip and Jenny are so lovely we hope to return again soon .

The only downside was the weather but you can't order that and it didn't stop us from going out and taking in the gorgeous countryside this part of the world has to offer .

This was a great place to stay, our hosts were so helpful and patient, the perfect place for us to stay. And as we are regular visitors to the area we would definitely stay at the studio again.

Waterloo Lodge retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Great location, modern thermostatically controlled showers with hydrophobic screens. Board games, Sky Satellite channels as well as very good FM boradcast reception considering the location

I was made very welcome and bread, butter. milk and eggs from their own ducks and hens were provided free of charge on arrival!

Hope to do a return visit

The warmest welcome to a charming and idyllic retreat

  • 5 of 5

Myself, Wife, son of three and border collie cannot praise this place highly enough.

We received the warmest welcome to a very homely “topsy turvy” studio. From the very comfortable and spacious sleeping accommodation downstairs, to the open plan well equipped living space upstairs. You will not want for or be short of anything.

Amazing views down the valley, a plentiful array of birds, some guard sheep and ducks in the paddock right outside, and if you believe my son, the local wolf lurking behind the door to the woodlands.

On arrival we were greeted with fresh duck and chicken eggs, homemade cake and bread. Locally souced cheese, milk and butter. All included in the price.

Philip and Jenny have thought of everything, from the age appropriate toys, dvd’s and books for my son, to sky tv for me!

Location is great, we took advantage of the local castles and a terrific little owl and small animal sanctuary. Plenty of variety including walks direct from the studio.

The Yorkshire man in me cannot ignore that this place is easily the best value for money accommodation we have ever stayed in

You will not be disappointed

In addition, the black and white villages of Herefordshire are only a short distance away. The historic city of Hereford lies half an hour away.

Local traditions are strongly maintained in the area with Morris dancing, wassailing and other rural spectacles still to be enjoyed.

Hay on Wye with its literary festival, the glories of Chirk castle, the mountains of central Wales, Worcester and the Malvern Hills, the Seven Valley Railway, the West Midlands Safari Park, the World Heritage Site of Iron Bridge Gorge, historic Shrewsbury are all no more than an hours drive away.
