Le Four a Pain

'The Bread Oven' is a romantic, picturesque old stone building set away on its own complete with masses of character, including oak beams, a terracotta tiled floor and the beautifully restored original oven. No, you don't have to cook in it, just turn on the feature lighting! Outside, the lovely terrace/garden is centred around a mysterious 'roll-right stone' and has a BBQ, table, chairs and parasol.

The Ground Floor has a picture window overlooking an orchard and the swimming pool and the comfortable living/dining area has a cafe table and chairs and a sofa to watch DVDs on TV or listen to the stereo CD. The adjoining kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. The shower-room is compact and newly fitted.

Set above on a galleried wooden mezzanine floor, up some fairly steep steps is a double bed with a window overlooking a magnificent, mature walnut tree. The cottage has full electric central heating and is an ideal and extremely popular choice for two people.

About the property

Le Moulin de Boutineau

Le Moulin de Boutineau and its three charming fully restored cottages (for gites or chambres d'hotes) lies in the tranquil countryside heart of the Loire Valley - but is not remote, just 2 kms from the famous medieval town of Loches, with its own chateau, restaurants, café’s, bars, shops and lively twice-weekly market.

Spend idyllic family days relaxing around a sparkling 12x6 metre heated swimming-pool with nearby children's play area or explore the 15 acres of magnificent tree-lined grounds, fields and woods surrounding this peaceful 17thC watermill. If you enjoy carp fishing there are carp (15-40lbs) in a glorious private two acre lake. The three delightful oak-beamed cottages sleeping 6, 4+1 and a romantic 2 can also accommodate an exclusive party of 12 and all have their own garden/patio and BBQ area, as well as cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, TV/DVD/stereo music tower, full central heating and access to washing/drying facilities, the swimming pool, hot-tub, bicycles, badminton and table-tennis.

Carp Fishing at Le Moulin de Boutineau: There is a glorious, private two acre lake where you can fish for carp (mirror & common 15-40lbs) plus roach, large tench and others. It has level, easy walking access around the entire perimeter which is lined with a wide variety of mature trees, flowers and the abundant wildlife includes kingfishers and red squirrels. It is an idyllic, tranquil setting for carp fishing. There are five marked swims (max. 4 anglers) and we also have a range of standard carp fishing equipment for hire as well as a selection of quality baits available. Our beautiful, pristine fish will give you quite a fight, but are of course, just for catching, photographing and releasing again!

Cost of Carp Fishing during the whole season from March to November is 150 euros per angler per week or 50 euros per day. You must be staying here to fish on the lake, making it all a great combination of value, comfort, accessibility and privacy. It is possible to carp fish the lake exclusively, but only during the early/late periods of March-May and September-November. Ask for details of rates. Please contact us on our special 'loire fishing holidays' website which has much more information and many photographs of the fish and lake, or see our Facebook page - Moulin de Boutineau Carp Fishing Holidays - for up to date comments/reviews/details and photos of the current carp fishing season on the lake.

A haven for peace and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic break, staying in a great gite, surrounded by beautiful French countryside. Jude and Julian were fantastic hosts, always on hand to answer any questions. And the fishing was amazing - I smashed my personal best twice in a week. For a true relaxing break, with great fishing, this is the place to be. We will definitely be coming back!

What a gem this place is if you want chilled out, relaxing pool, great food and fantastic carp fishing. Julian and Jude are great hosts and have got the balance just right, brilliant to deal with, there if you need help and local knowledge otherwise let you get on with it. We first visited in July and had such a great time we came back for week over the August bank holiday staying this time at FouraPain. This is great accommodation for two people, cosy, romantic and really works well. Jude's meals are amazing, can be booked while you are there, and Julian gives the story behind his wine recommendations which makes a great way to spend an evening. in addition to fishing to we took some time out to visit a vine yard recommended by Julian and spent an afternoon on Segway in Lochs', both experiences were really enjoyable. The fishing is amazing and we both smashed our PB's, catching a series of 30lb+ carp all in beautiful condition. Can't recommend this place enough whether

you are into your fishing or not. We are already planning our trip for 2017.

Magic in the water....

  • 4 of 5

BEST HOLIDAY EVER!!!!! what a lovely place, area, and people! My partner and I went for 2 weeks to get away from the hussle and bussle of the city and to do some fishing and were recommended this place by friends who have stayed a number of times before and we couldn't be happier. It was the best 2 weeks...Couldn't have asked for anything else.

The house was lovely and quaint, clean and well kept, and the grounds and the gardens are so lush and well looked after, and the whole area included with the rest of the property was lovely and clean and we had everything that we needed.

The lake itself was wonderful and the fish we caught were beautiful. Julian and Jude the owners were also so friendly and helpful and even though we have never been before it has felt like a home away from home...we are already planning out next trip out, sadly it won't come soon enough....Jude and Julian really made us feel at home, and I will struggle to find food as good as the meal that Jude cooked for us...we are still dreaming of the Peach Meringue and the duck in cherry Jus....

There is also so much to do within 30 mins from the property that you didn't feel like you were far away and the shops are right around the corner so you if you didn't feel like travelling you didn't have far to go to get the essentials...The markets in Loches was so awesome, and cannot say enough about the cheeses and the food in the markets...

In short, you can't go wrong spending your holiday here, it was well worth every penny!

See you soon Julian and Jude!!!

Another fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

Having had such a lovely time at the Moulin last year, it took no time at all to decide that we wanted to return in 2015. We knew that we were returning to friends and that we would receive a warm welcome. Jude and Julian really do have a winning formula to ensure that you have a relaxing holiday. They offer help and advice about places to visit, restaurants and events to help you get the most from your stay. The Moulin is ideally situated to visit many places south of The Loire. The Four a pain is ideal for a couple and is cosy and comfortable. The pool is amazing, a perfect size and impeccably maintained. An evening meal hosted by Jude and Julian is an experience not to miss, Jude's food really is delicious. Definitely a good decision to return, though we were not in any doubt, and we are already making plans to return next year!

Faultless. Very highly recommended

What a fantastic place, better than the photographs!!!

Julian and Jude are the perfect hosts leaving us to relax but readily available for any queries we had with a great knowledge of the beautiful local area for any sightseeing or simply a glass of wine and a natter.

The pool was very clean and a lovely size with loungers which we made full use of throughout our stay.

We stayed in The Bread Oven which is ideal for a couple in comfort.

Thanks to our lovely hosts for making our stay very relaxing.

We like to travel to different places each holiday but are considering returning to le moulin ! That's how much we loved it there.

In summary-book your holiday as soon as you can here, you won't regret it .

A very bijou little property, just as advertised

  • 4 of 5

We had a very relaxed time, the owners are very welcoming and helpful, and offer some nice add-ons and the option of good quality meals to order. Lovely countryside setting, a great place to get away from it all, yet the other two holiday apartments and owners house mean you don't feel too isolated. Very happy to recommend.

About Jude & Julian Baskcomb

We moved to France with our then 6-year-old daughter Saskia in 2005 after falling in love with Le Moulin de Boutineau a year earlier, a wreck of a watermill and overgrown grounds left abandoned for 10 years. It was a huge step and massive change to permanently leave rural Leicestershire in England for a French countryside lifestyle near the medieval market town of Loches in the beautiful Loire Valley, but we have never regretted it for a moment (well possibly for one or two moments during the lengthy restoration work when some thought we were completely mad!). However, we had a vision of what it all could be and thankfully our guests - many of whom keep returning - seem to love it too.

Jude & Julian Baskcomb purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Jude & Julian Baskcomb chose Perrusson

"It's just all so much better than in the photos - they can never quite convey the lovely atmosphere of the place" is probably the comment we have heard from our guests most often over the years. Our aim was always to offer a really good quality holiday cottages where the men had an option to carp fish - and catch big ones - close-by on a picturesque lake, but it would still be a great holiday for their wives/partners/family & friends who would enjoy the sunshine, large pool, BBQ's, lovely grounds and nearby town and chateau's equally as much.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful grounds - a wonderful specimen carp-fishing lake with 12 acres of accessible, peaceful woodland, mature trees, orchards and streams shared with kingfishers, buzzards, red squirrels and deer. The clear air and warm, starry night skies with owls but no light pollution. We added the sparkling 12x6 metre heated swimming pool and can provide that special bottle of much-underrated Loire wine that makes an evening meal in the courtyard a perfect memory for so many of our visitors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a short note to say how Richard & I really enjoyed our holiday in the FouraPain at your lovely place in the country, we can't believe how great the weather was and how thoroughly relaxed we were and we didn't want to leave. You have a lovely idyllic place and thank you both so much for making us feel very welcome.

Le Moulin de Boutineau lies in Indre-et-Loire, part of the 'Centre' region of France. This is the royal historical heartland of Touraine renowned for its fine wines, delicious goat's cheese and near-perfect French accent!

The nearest major supermarket and superb patisserie are just 5 minutes drive while equally close, Loches (just 2kms away) with its maze of cobbled streets, dungeon & chateau is a magnificently preserved medieval town with big, colourful country markets every Weds & Sat with amazing selections of cheeses, breads, pastries, sausages and fresh local produce.

Most of the prettiest and most rewarding Loire chateaux are within 30 minutes drive including Chenonceau, Chinon, Valencay, Villandry, Amboise, Usse and Azay-le-Rideau and many hold summer 'son et lumiere' or music shows.

Also within easy reach are golf, tennis, horse-riding and walking or cycling in the beautiful Indre valley or extensive Loches Forest, while the zoo with its pandas at nearby St Aignan is arguably the best in France.
