3 quality gites, big heated pool, spa & carp fishing lake in 15 acres - Le Chaumiere des Pecheurs

Updated: 10-Oct-2016
1, 3 & 3 bedroom self-catering cottages with shower-rooms, sleeps 12

Le Moulin de Boutineau and its three charming fully restored cottages (for gites or chambres d'hotes) lies in the tranquil countryside heart of the Loire Valley - but is not remote, just 2 kms from the famous medieval town of Loches, with its own chateau, restaurants, café’s, bars, shops and lively twice-weekly market.

Spend idyllic family days relaxing around a sparkling 12x6 metre heated swimming-pool with nearby children's play area or explore the 15 acres of magnificent tree-lined grounds, fields and woods surrounding this peaceful 17thC watermill. If you want to fish there are carp (15-40lbs) in a glorious private two acre lake. The three delightful oak-beamed cottages sleeping 6, 4+1 and a romantic 2 can also accommodate an exclusive party of 12 and all have their own garden/patio and BBQ area, as well as cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, TV/DVD/stereo CD, full central heating and access to washing/drying facilities, the swimming pool, hot-tub, bicycles, petanque court and table-tennis.

Fishing at Le Moulin de Boutineau: There is a glorious, private two acre lake where you can fish for carp (mirror & common 15-40lbs) plus roach, tench and others. It has level, easy walking access around the entire perimeter which is lined with a wide variety of mature trees, flowers and the abundant wildlife includes kingfishers and red squirrels. It is an idyllic, tranquil setting for fishing. There are six marked swims (max. 4 anglers) and we also have a range of all the correct carp fishing equipment for hire as well as a selection of quality baits available. Our beautiful, pristine fish will give you quite a fight, but are just for catching, photographing and releasing again - NOT for eating!!

Cost of Fishing: During the peak 2014 holiday season from 12 July to 30 August the cost is 160 euros per angler per week or 50 euros per day. During the rest of the rental season (1 March to 12 July & 30 Aug to 8 Nov) the special price of a weeks fishing rights is only 80 euros per angler per week, making it a great combination of value, comfort, accessibility and privacy. Please contact us for details on our special loire fishing holidays website which has much more information and many photographs of the fish and lake.

About the Owner

We moved to France with our then 6-year-old daughter Saskia in 2005 after falling in love with Le Moulin de Boutineau a year earlier, a wreck of a watermill and overgrown grounds left abandoned for 10 years. It was a huge step and massive change to permanently leave rural Leicestershire in England for a French countryside lifestyle near the medieval market town of Loches in the beautiful Loire Valley, but we have never regretted it for a moment (well possibly for one or two moments during the lengthy restoration work when some thought we were completely mad!). However, we had a vision of what it all could be and thankfully our guests - many of whom keep returning - seem to love it too.

We just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed our stay at your beautiful Pecheurs gite last week - although one week was not enough! On arrival it looks so beautiful with all the flowers, and the fact you came out to welcome us rather than just leave a key made such a difference. You were always there with great advice and suggestions if needed, but never intrusive. Jude, the meal you cooked for us was the best meal we had all week - absolutely superb! We have some great memories of a fabulous holiday, and hope to visit again.

What a great place . The cottage had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable . The pool was lovely and peaceful. The fishing was fantastic - I had 3 personal best fish within 30 mins one day . The location is handy for the restaurants and bars of Loches .

Superb - Already booked next year

  • 5 of 5

Le Moulin is in a fantastic location, set in the country side, but 5 mins from a medieval town of Loches. Within a hours drive are several chateaus, vin yards and arguably Europe's best zoo which is a must see.

The accommodation is first rate, clean & well equipped. Jude and Julian are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much hassle, you are made to feel like one of the family and don't mention the "W" word (work) since its banned by Jude!

We experienced 3 of Jude's meals, all combined with Julian's excellent wine recommendation -all were first rate.

All in all, a fantastic holiday experience. Thanks Jude and Julian and we'll see you next year!

Perfect holiday, perfect hosts

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the bread oven last year and were so impressed with all we got then we felt we needed to share our love of this place with two of our friends by staying in le chaumiere des pecheurs with them this year. our friends agreed with us that the photos don't do this amazing place justice let alone the lovely treatment we received from our hosts Julian and Jude.

Discovering the local activities and attractions was made easier by the plethora of Information in the itinerary provided with the gite.

We thoroughly recommend without reservation this place for holidays even if your not into fishing.

Looking forward to coming back again next year, we're hooked.

A Perfect Week

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic property, fantastic Lake and a superb location in a beautiful region of France. The weather was beautiful, the fishing was great and the hosts, Julian and Jude, made the week long stay we had unforgettable. The homemade food served up by Jude was of a quality restaurant standard and nothing was too much effort to make our stay as pleasurable as possible.

The fishing produced a number of 30lb plus carp from a mature lake with great features. Julian supplies bait and tackle if needed which is very handy.

The local town is a twenty five minute walk away which had all the required amenities plus more. Restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shopping.

Cannot fault this holiday, would definitely recommend.

Visited in 2012 for a short fishing holiday and loved it so much we returned this year with the family. A perfect family holiday was had! Relaxing by the pool, strolling to nearby Loche to buy wonderful food and wine for BBQ's a lovely historical town with great charm. Jude provided us with a delicious evening meal sitting outside in the evening warmth. Fishing by the lake was great..23lb carp made it special.

A beautiful part of France with very considerate pleasant friendly hosts...would definitely recommend

From the Owner

"It's just all so much better than in the photos - they can never quite convey the lovely atmosphere of the place" is probably the comment we have heard from our guests most often over the years. Our aim was always to offer a really good quality holiday cottages where the men had an option to carp fish - and catch big ones - close-by on a picturesque lake, but it would still be a great holiday for their wives/partners/family & friends who would enjoy the sunshine, large pool, BBQ's, lovely grounds and nearby town and chateau's equally as much.

Le Moulin de Boutineau lies in Indre-et-Loire, part of the 'Centre' region of France. This is the royal historical heartland of Touraine renowned for its fine wines, delicious goat's cheese and near-perfect French accent!

The nearest major supermarket and superb patisserie are just 5 minutes drive while equally close, Loches (just 2kms away) with its maze of cobbled streets, dungeon & chateau is a magnificently preserved medieval town with big, colourful country markets every Weds & Sat with amazing selections of cheeses, breads, pastries, sausages and fresh local produce.

Most of the prettiest and most rewarding Loire chateaux are within 30 minutes drive including Chenonceau, Chinon, Valencay, Villandry, Amboise, Usse and Azay-le-Rideau and many hold summer 'son et lumiere' or music shows.

Also within easy reach are golf, tennis, horse-riding and walking or cycling in the beautiful Indre valley or extensive Loches Forest, while the zoo with its pandas at nearby St Aignan is arguably the best in France.

From the Owner

Beautiful grounds - a wonderful specimen carp-fishing lake with 12 acres of accessible, peaceful woodland, mature trees, orchards and streams shared with kingfishers, buzzards, red squirrels and deer. The clear air and warm, starry night skies with owls but no light pollution. We added the sparkling 12x6 metre heated swimming pool and can provide that special bottle of much-underrated Loire wine that makes an evening meal in the courtyard a perfect memory for so many of our visitors.
