Overview

About the property

Côté De La Rivière is a delightful south facing garden apartment situated on the banks of the River Averyon. Relax in the calm and serenity of the riverside setting on the banks of the river Aveyron with views of the Roc d'Anglar and yet also enjoy the convenience of village living being a 3 minute walk to the centre of the medieval village of Saint Antonin Noble Val and it's amenities such as cafés, restaurants, bars, boulangerie, supermarket, boutiques, bank, cinema as well as the famous Sunday market.

The garden apartment accommodates four people very comfortably (with the possibility of accommodating a further 2 people as one of the bedrooms has 2 double beds). It has been imaginatively renovated to a very high standard and has it's own garden and gated driveway/parking area.

Entry to the garden apartment is at the end of the driveway via the double-glazed french doors opening into the open-plan living area. The fully fitted kitchen area has a tiled surround and oak worktop and is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, an electric fan oven with ceramic hob, extractor fan, toaster and kettle. The large drawer unit and glazed wall units provide ample storage containing all the equipment and utensils for the convenience of dining in. The large oak refectory table has comfortable seating for 4 and 2 further dining chairs are available. A porcelain dinner service, earthenware serving dishes and glassware is stored in the oak cupboard near the table.

There is a cosy seating area with a large sofa,TV/DVD player, French TV & English FreeSat TV, CD & radio with a selection of DVDs and CDs.

The spacious modern shower room is tiled on both floor and walls. There is a WC and a double basin marble top vanity unit with large mirror and spotlights. The shower has a thermostatic control and non-slip base. There is a heater and long towel rail - towels provided. There is also a washing machine, iron & ironing board and a hairdryer.

Bedroom 1 faces south so is light and bright with mesmerising views of the river and the Roc d'Anglars. There is a large wardrobe and chest of drawers, bedside tables with lamps - plenty of storage place for clothes. A double-glazed french door leads on to the covered terrace and garden.

The rear bedroom has a west facing window and shutters. It is furnished with 2 small double beds with a bedside table and lamp and a chest of drawers.

Enjoy alfresco dining on the covered terrace patio area with table and chairs. There is also a sheltered BBQ area. The terrace is set back from the river and there is a gravelled area with sun loungers which is perfect for lazing in the sun.

Turn right and stroll down the road to the river beach and island or turn left and walk up the road to the public swimming pool with 3 pools (2 for toddlers/children) and tennis courts.

Saint Antonin is a beautiful medieval village. It has a bustling Sunday food market as well as bars and restaurants, excellent boulangeries and patisseries, supermarket, bank, post office, pharmacies, art galleries and even a cinema with regular English films. For children the open countryside and the rivers provide a natural playground of excitement and adventure. Saint Antonin is also a particularly good place for outdoor activities such as canoeing/kayaking, caving, climbing, cycling, hang gliding, swimming, tennis or simply walk and enjoy the stunning scenery.

A region of valleys, rivers, gorges, lakes, a land of water and stone warming under sunny azure blue skies. Tarn-et-Garonne offers an endless array of activities for every generation, from gentle pursuits such as fishing in the many rivers and lakes in the area, to rambling through the wonderful gorges and valleys discovering the hidden beauty of the medieval bastide towns that populate this department.

Cordes-sur-Ciel (25 mins drive) is a breathtaking 13th Century bastide. The walk to the very top is well worth the effort for the panoramic views alone. Najac (40 mins drive) is another bastide in a stunning setting high above the river Aveyron. There is a beautiful walk towards the 13th Century chateau through streets unchanged for centuries.

Albi (50 mins drive) is the birthplace of the famous artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and with a superb museum holding hundreds of his works. Sainte Cecile Cathedral is a dominating architectural highlight. The town centre is a lovely place to spend a day in the cafes and restaurants. Gaillac (50 mins drive) is one of the oldest and most famous wine growing regions in France. The huge variety of wines from the area should please all tastes, and it is a fascinating area to explore.

About The Owner

Having finally taken the plunge and moved from England to France, I'm enjoying living in the beautiful village of Saint Antonin. It's a wonderful experience with so much to learn and enjoy. I love cooking and am working my way through French recipe books and this year aim to grow more in the garden and expand my recipe collection to include more vegetarian.

Everything you could need for a great stay and in an excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

We have just had a week here and loved it. The apartment is immaculate and very well equipped, we couldn't think of anything

that needed adding. What did surprise us is how well stocked the apartment is. Carolyn is very generous with the 'starter pack'. Most places leave a welcoming bottle of wine, but here there was a white a rose and a red! Lots of other things included like butter, cheese, jam, tea, coffee, milk, bread, I could go on. The property is in a very private and peaceful location, but it really is just three minutes walk from the centre of Saint Antonin. It has a lovely, partly covered terraced area overlooking the river with a good choice of seating and seating areas.

The surrounding area offers plenty of trips to discover the nearby villages and Chateaux and the market in Saint Antonin on Sunday mornings is unmissable. If you are looking for a relaxing, away from it all holiday, with the convenience of the village shops, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, this is an ideal location. If you want a little more activity, the river provides a nearby beach for swimming and lots of canoeing options.

In summary, a great apartment that should appeal to a wide range of Francophiles.

Lovely apartment with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

A lovely apartment with stunning views.Although it is only minutes to walk into town it is in a really peaceful setting. The apartment is really well equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay.Carolyn the owner couldn't be more helpful and is on hand if needed. The covered terrace was both handy to sit under when it rained and equally to provide shade on hot days. A generous welcome basket was much appreciated and enjoyed! We wish Carolyn every success with her new life in France after all the hard work that has gone into making this a lovely property.

What a view!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed late in August in this lovely apartment for a week. The apartment had everything we needed to make this a home from home. Outside it was roasting but inside the apartment was lovely and cool. We ate outside on the covered terrace. When we needed a dip to cool off we had a choice of swimming or paddling in the river or a dip in the local outdoor pool that was a delight to Swim in whilst looking a the most astonishing view. A view you never get bored of, which is a good job because this is the uninterrupted view that the apartment has. The apartment is well equipped. Beds are really comfortable. Great to have a washing machine and dishwasher. Freezer for your ice and ice cream . You are minutes from the centre of the village, river beach and pool. Prefect location. St Antonin is a really beautiful village with plenty of places to eat and drink. However the Sunday market is my favourite experience. Amazing produce, we carried back to the apartment and enjoyed on the barbecue for serveral days! The cheese is delicious. Good local wines to wash it down with! We visited Albi, Cahors both of which were worth while and easy to get to. We hired a car from Toulouse. Plugged in the sat nav and had no problems finding out way ! Think if you want to get out and about a car is essential but if you just want to canoe or fish or just relax in St Antonin you can. We did the four hour canoe trip from the end of the road. The views were lovely and you don't need to be a canoe expert to do it. However, you do need a reasonable level of fitness. If you have a partner who loves to fish as mine does then you can get a licence and fish from the garden! We will be going back to this lovely apartment, to relax ,fish (l'll relax my partner will fish) and enjoy the view.

Wonderfully relaxing riverside setting

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for us to stay and totally chill. The apartment comes with it's own shaded terrace so we could choose the sun or shade and sit and relax with views of the river. The garden area has lovely colourful displays of flowers and It was so peaceful and yet in just a few minutes walk we were in the town so able to easily stroll to the lovely restaurants, shops (including supermarket) and the buzzing Sunday market. The medieval town has lots of nooks and crannies to explore with amazing architecture. There were so many picturesque views around each corner, plus the elegant bridge mirrored on the river Aveyron and spectacular views from the Roc d'Anglar (thank heavens for digital cameras!!). The apartment had everything we could possibly need - such great thought had been put in by Carolyn and a wonderfully warm welcome. We really felt like we had moved into our own new home for the week - such a pleasant spacious apartment to stay in, we were sorry to leave. We will definitely be back and there is still more for us to explore in the area - the walk to the caves, kayaking on the river, and lots of lovely drives out if you choose to. That is, if we manage to drag ourselves away from this lovely apartment / garden next time....!

charmant gîte au fil de l'eau

  • 4 of 5
