About the property

21 in main house, luxury hot tub - extra 10 in additional hire Stables

This large house is available to rent for big house parties, family groups, country house weddings, holidays and Corporate events. Tone Dale House is a large, elegant Georgian Palladian style Villa, set in four acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, with mill stream. There is a large luxury hot tub on the terrace for guests to enjoy.

The property comprises the main house sleeping 21 and the Stables accommodating a further 10. The main house is large enough and fully equipped for 31 guests. The grounds including terrace are stylishly landscaped giving total privacy to guests. First built by Thomas Fox in 1797, the house and gardens have been carefully restored by the Big House Co.

Ground floor.

Entrance is through the grand (40ft) Hall. Off the hall is a fully equipped kitchen together with a scullery and jam room. The drawing and dining rooms are where guests can unwind in comfort and style with a roaring log fire, amid many antiques and family portraits. The more energetic can retire to the Long Room for a game of table tennis or pool.

The party room.

Leading off from the dining room the air conditioned party room has a 60” plasma screen and an integrated sound and lighting system which is ideal for staging your own disco and can also be used for formal presentations.

First floor.

There are seven bedrooms (and 6 shower/bathrooms) all reflecting fascinating and different aspects of the history of the house and family. They are comfortably furnished, with sumptuous beds. 3 are en suite. The 11th bedroom is the ivy clad Old Laundry, a charming, very large bedroom suite with a gallery and its own bathroom.

Second floor.

Originally the maids' quarters but today there is a twin bedded room and a double/twin room with a further single room en suite.

In total the main house has 11 bedrooms and 7 bath/shower rooms.

The Stables.

Nestled in the garden adjacent to the main house, the Stables provide elegant accommodation for up to 10 guests. The beautifully appointed kitchen is ideal for a morning brew but the guests would then join in the main house for all meals and entertainment.

The ground floor has two bedrooms and one bath/shower room. Upstairs there are a further three bedrooms and a bathroom.

In total the Stables has 5 bedrooms and 2 bath/shower rooms.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We really loved our weekend and the house was perfect in every way. We loved the bedrooms with their individual characters. We were particularly lucky with the weather which meant that we hardly spent time in the sitting room but it was great to have the games room and we managed to feed a huge number of people in the breakfast night on Friday which was fun. We enjoyed collapsing in the snug sitting room on Sunday night too.

I thought the kitchen was really well stocked and we certainly gave it a good run for it’s money with a never ending stream of people using one thing or another. I really think it was all fantastic.

Amazing amazing amazing - beyond perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We organized a family reunion at Tone Dale with 24 of our friends and a few children between us. Everyone had an absolutely amazing time! The property is maintained to a very high standard, the rooms are all very large and the garden is also fantastic for adults and kids alike. The games room is great to keep adults and kids entertained regardless of the weather and the dining room is the perfect one for a dinner with that many people around the table.

Tone Dale is so big that we didn't really have the impression of being 26 people in the house at any point in time (apart from dinner).

The owner Peter was also very friendly and flexible with all specific arrangements we required (cots, names on the doors etc). Excellent service!

I highly recommend this place to anyone who is organizing a gathering with a similar number of people, with or without children.

I just can't wait until I have another excuse to go back to Tone Dale myself!

Tone Dale Christmas 2011

  • 5 of 5

Organising an event like Christmas involving family and close friends was a daunting challenge. Not least finding the perfect venue. Tone Dale seemed to fit the bill, although I was slightly concerned given the wonderful reviews and photos my high expectations would not be met, and worse not met by the other revellers we had convinced to share this special time of the year.

I did not have to worry!

From the moment we entered the house, our doubts evaporated. Tone Dale house delivered on every level; welcoming, spacious, entertaining, historically fascinating and so very homely.

The bedrooms were extremely comfortable; with two bedrooms accessible on the ground floor in the neighbouring Stables (one of our requisites). Although, I must stress, wheelchair access to the Stables needs to be via the patio doors rather than the main door; a short walk (50m) from the main house.

With four ovens and industrial size pots and pans, catering for large parties is not a problem. We chose to do all our own cooking which proved to be no problem given all the equipment. Even cooking Christmas Day for 27 people was extremely successful. We also made a wise decision to schedule an online shop to arrive on our first day; all the main supermarkets reside in Wellington.

In addition to the floor plans and photos, Tone Dale boasts an entertainment/dance/TV room accessed through the Red Dining Room. This proved invaluable to younger members of the group. Whilst the tv in the Library was used as our 'quiet' room.

Given the large grounds, well stocked Games Room and good weather, we hardly used the television - a testament to Tone Dale.

The Big House Company were fantastic hosts and attended to ALL our requests, questions and needs without intruding on our time at the house.

The children had an especially wonderful time; including some of the 'permanent residents' (enough said). It has provided everyone with some very special memories which will stay with us for a very long time.

Best wedding ever

  • 5 of 5

We set out with the idea of having an informal wedding, more along the lines of a party with the wedding ceremony in the middle of it and that's exactly what we achieved. The house lent itself superbly to our occasion, all of the guests loved it, we loved it and had the best wedding ever!
