Overview

About the property

Bedroom 1, Bathroom 1, Occupancy 3

A Room with A View (Arwav) has a beautiful King Size bed in the shape of an open box bed. On the other side of the room there is a single bed. Both beds have new and comfortable mattresses. A room to share, with plenty of privacy. There is a cosy sitting area and ample wardrobes. The en-suite bathroom, called “The Magic Fish”, has a shower and a beautiful sink on a marble surface. The room offers a view of fields and farms and the large outdoor arena, where my daughter regularly trains Murgese horses.

No TV’s in the rooms. We have a guest lounge with TV (Dutch channels –everything in the original language- and international news channels), coffee- and tea facilities and touristic information. Of course you also do have our information book. Herein you find the nicest places, the best beaches on the Adriatic- and on the Ionian Sea and a choice of restaurants in Noci and other places of interest in Apulia. Routes to these places you also find in the book. In fact, with our book you do not need any more to prepare for your holidays. You can take it with you in the car and after booking we send you a link so that you can download it in your computer or tablet.

The name A Room With A View (Arwav) is derived from the well-known film.

There are no children staying as guests at Villa Lavanda. The 3rd bed is for people who prefer to sleep in separate beds (a € 10,00 surcharge per night) or 3 persons sharing.

Here you have all the advantages of the rest of the countryside on the one hand and on the other Noci with all amenities close by and we are very good and easily accessible from Bari Airport and the Autostrada.

B&B Villa Lavanda is situated in the Apulian country side and very centrally to visit Alberobello and its Trulli (17 km), the Adriatic- and Ionian coast, Castellana Grotte, Bari and Brindisi, Lecce, Matera, Gioa del Colle, Taranto, Monopoli and Ostuni.

It's a safe and pleasant environment, where you can enjoy the tranquillity, the many species of wild flowers and plants and the many colourful butterflies that are attracted to the lavender, among others the hummingbird hawk moths. Furthermore, you see a lot of lizards around the house and in the evening owls, bats and stone martens. Twice yearly the passing cranes. The foxes have their dens in the forest around the grain mill. You can also see in the area: Sardinian donkeys and the rare Martina Franca donkey and Murgese horses. In spring you often hear the hoopoe cry. They breed in the little forest around the mill and sometimes come foraging around Villa Lavanda. In the evening you can hear the owls scratch and sometimes one flies in front of your car when you come home in the dark.

Villa Lavanda has 3 Rooms with unique furnishings and decorations, always a private bathroom, a guest lounge with TV and fridge/bar and verandas on 3 sides of Villa Lavanda.

We serve a really good breakfast that includes homemade marmalades, cheeses, eggs, and cold cuts, fruit and yoghurt and is different every day. Not the usual sweet Italian breakfast. You can also choose for a biological, lactose-free or vegetarian breakfast. We will ask you for your preferences in the breakfast form we will send you after your booking. In general, breakfast is served on the covered porch.

No matter how early your return flight might be, no guest leaves without breakfast!

Extra's: Robes and slippers, a basket with picnic utilities, beach towels and beach bag, a Beach Parasol and folding chairs on request, free Wi-Fi, an English guide that will show you all the places of interest, the best restaurants and beaches.

Your Dutch host speaks English and several other languages.

The nearest beaches at 23 km on the Ionian Sea and the beaches on the Adriatic at 48 km.

Golf courses, a tour with a large wooden sailing Yacht from Monopoli, Dolphin spotting from Taranto, rickshaws, tours per E-bike.

Agriturismo restaurant at 150 m.

We have 4 bicycles for rent and several hiking- and biking routes.

About Jenny Stolk

I’m Jenny your Dutch hostess and I live here since 1997. At the first visit to the farm of our present neighbours, I fell instantly in love with this beautiful place. Villa Lavanda has been built in 2002 and at that time we had no bed and breakfast in mind yet. Much attention has been paid to the design, use of materials and the gardens that surround Villa Lavanda. We're art lovers, and that is reflected in Villa Lavanda. I also love my cats and dogs and animals in general.

It's just wonderful to live in the countryside again. From the house where I grew up we had a view over many kilometres of fields and in the distance you could see the south of Rotterdam. We saw the Euromast rise above the city and were always busy with everything growing and flourishing in nature. That I found back here. In nature there is always something interesting and it renews itself constantly and that interests me very much. I’m a big fan of English and Scandinavian Detectives, both on TV and in book form (written in English I prefer to read them in English), and I read at least 2-3 books every week. I'm watching Dutch TV again and love the English programs about buying, building and renovating houses. I like to stay informed on developments in the Netherlands and the rest of the world.

I do like to share the beautiful nature around Villa Lavanda with my guests.

Why Jenny Stolk chose Gioia del Colle

In Puglia there are many possibilities. You can visit picturesque old village- and city centres and old fishing harbours. There is a lot of Baroque architecture not only in Lecce, but every place has its Baroque. It's just that it is very concentrated Lecce.

There also are Trulli. In the neighbouring city of Alberobello there is a large concentration, but they can also be found elsewhere. In the Itrie valley there is also a large amount of trulli. They are scattered in the landscape. Behind many farms you'll find a row of trulli and here and there in the fields.

People used to live in the trulli with whole families, incl. the chickens, the donkey and the hay.

In some cases, they are still permanently inhabited, but often now they serve as a summer residence. Some people who live in the villages own a group of trulli in the countryside that they inherited from their parents. Most people here never go on holiday outside the honeymoon, but they move from the 2nd half of May to the end of August to their trulli or other small buildings in the countryside. It's called Villeggiare. They take some pots and pans, and their mattress and will then during summer come to town only once a week on market day. Then they go to their homes as well to water the plants and pick up the mail.

The Apulian cuisine is very honest with good ingredients and a glass of local wine there at. The antipasti (starters) are really the exciting part of it. You should never skip them. People here are still very much into traditional home-made food.

In Noci you will find a variety of restaurants. From Pizzeria to Slow Food restaurant and of course many restaurants that have traditional Apulian dishes on the menu. Here you can also drink local wines. Also in Noci all amenities and shops. In our book about the area you will also find both in Noci and many other places one or more restaurants that we can recommend.

There are many wonderful places to visit which you'll find with the help of App.

There are many beautiful places you can visit and what we definitely can recommend you a trip with a large yacht on the Adriatic Sea from Monopoli and Dolphin Spotting with conservationists from Taranto on the Ionian Sea and a trip by E-bike to the smaller gems of Puglia. To places you would not otherwise find. Visit the antique and flea market in Martina Franca and Ostuni. Even if you would not buy anything, it is worth it. It is cosy and there is a lively atmosphere. The Castellana Caves are well worth your visit and a must is a visit to the town of Matera in Basilicata. It is only a 45 minutes drive from Villa Lavanda and you will find completely different scenery. No more trulli and dry stonewalls. The landscape is much more rugged with mountains and canyons, and the city of Matera is really very special. They lived here until well into the fifties in cave dwellings and there were also cave churches. Because of this special landscape, many films have ben shot in Matera.

And do not forget: there are beaches on two different coasts and you can swim in the sea until around October 20.
