About the property

Peaceful self contained, quirky with beautiful vaulted ceiling, sleeps 2

Calf cottage is a converted 'horse engine'. Dating back to 1840. When Treglyn Farm was a working farm this building housed the Threshing Mill which was driven by a donkey. It is a large hexagonal shaped room with a vaulted ceiling. It contains a full kitchen, dining table and chairs, lounge furniture, a king size bed and wardrobes etc. They are all together in the same room, there is a separate shower/toilet

We have been married for 40 years and have enjoyed over 30 years of family holidays in this part of Cornwall. We have 3 children all of whom loved the beaches and surfing, now it is the turn of our 2 grandchildren to make use of the buckets and spades! As we approach retirement we plan one day to spend most of our time at the cottage, but in the meantime we let it to guests.

LINDA FRENCH purchased this cottage in 2008

Why LINDA FRENCH chose Saint Minver

The cottage is in a perfect spot for exploring Cornwall. Although situated on the North coast it is a short trip down to the South coast and all that it has to offer. The beaches are only a few minutes away but the cottage is in a beautiful peaceful location, away from the main road. After a day on the beach or exploring the surrounding area it is a lovely place to come back to. The nights are so peaceful you can hear a pin drop.

Great Value!

  • 4 of 5

We had a four night stay at St Minver at Calf Cottage and really enjoyed our time there. It is studio accommodation and we found it extremely comfortable, staying in a very large room with a full kitchen. The outside area is extensive with a lawned area and bbq facilities. It was extremely well equipped and very clean and we can highly recommend a stay there and I am sure that we will be returning!

Good location

  • 3 of 5

A good location from which to explore the North Cornish coast. Very quiet property, good basic facilities, good shower, comfortable bed, but in need of a few improvements. There was no information pack, which we would have expected to find in a rental property - phone numbers for doctors, where the nearest chemist/cash machine is, who to contact in an emergency, how things work, local information etc etc. According to the visitors book, people have been asking for an info pack since 2005!! The sink in the shower room is very small, and has a glass shelf just above it making it awkward to wash your face. We thought it had a slight musty smell, but not really a problem. The sofa was a metal framed sofa-bed, which was not very comfortable for relaxing in the evening after a coastal walk, and the TV was mounted on the wall and set at such an angle that you got a crick in the neck from watching it. Our overall impression was that it was a property that had great potential and character, and a great base for travelling up and down the coast, very quiet and peaceful, but not as comfortable as we had expected. A bit of a shame, as we had good weather and we did some good walking along the coastal path and up Rough Tor, and had good days in Boscastle, Tintagel and Trebarwith Strand.

Great stay!

Calf Cottage was a great place to stay while we explored Rock, Polzeath, Boscastle and more! It is very spacious for being a single room, wifi worked great and the kitchen was really helpful to have. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Alles, mit ein paar Ausnahmen gut!

  • 3 of 5

Polzeath beach is a popular surfers beach, perfect for families, a large sandy bay with lots of rock pools for little ones to explore. Plenty of places to buy food and drinks, hire surfing equipment and wet suites.

Rock is situated on the Camel Estuary and you can catch the passenger ferry from here over to the lovely fishing harbour of Padstow famous for its many eateries.

Nearby Wadebridge has everything thing you need, banks, pharmacy, launderette, supermarkets and lots of little independent shops.. If your feeling energetic you can hire a bicycle from one of the hire stores and cycle the Camel Trail. A flat safe cycle trail following the River Camel finishing at Padstow, where you can reward yourself with a nice cold cider on the harbour.

Port Isaac, the setting for the television series Doc Martin is only 15 minutes away
