About the property

Cottage near beautiful East Devon beaches, golf courses and family attractions

A cosy home-from- home cottage, situated just 5 minutes drive from the Regency Town of Sidmouth, and within easy access of the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. A perfect retreat from which to explore the popular coastal towns and villages of Sidmouth, Seaton, Beer, Branscombe, Budleigh Salterton and Lyme Regis.

The sleeping accommodation is spread across 4 bedrooms - a master bedroom with en-suite shower room (king size bed) , one double bedroom, a twin room and a small single room, which are served by the family bathroom.

The farmhouse kitchen seats six people comfortably and features the original 400 year old inglenook fireplace with cast iron wood burner. Guests can also spread out in the lounge, smaller TV lounge, and games room/snug.

Orchard Cottage's garden is well established and kids will never get bored exploring all quarter of an acre of it, as well as playing on the wooden playground and large trampoline. There is a patio, complete with garden furniture for the adults to relax, get a BBQ going or play any of the outdoor garden games.

For those less warmer days, there is nothing better than relaxing in front of the fire while the kids play in the games room or watch a DVD on one of the televisions.

Just 10 miles from the M5 and A38, Sidmouth is the perfect base to explore Devon and beyond. The Cathedral city of Exeter is just a 20 min drive away, with Dartmoor National Park, Torquay and Plymouth all within an hour or so by car.

About Claire Rigby

I was born in Exeter but now live near Manchester with my husband Alex and our two girls and little boy. I used to work as a Speech & Language Therapist, but these days my three children keep me pretty busy!

Claire Rigby purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Claire Rigby chose Sidmouth

Living so far away from my family, we wanted to buy somewhere close by to visit often and at the same time, stay in touch with this beautiful part of the world.

We fell in love with the cottage instantly, for it's friendly and welcoming feel and especially the garden. Whatever the weather, our children are out there running and playing and we are always sad to leave...until the next time....!

What makes this cottage unique

It doesn't seem to matter if the weather is not the best - there is nothing like coming home from the beach to the cottage, getting the kettle on (or popping that cork!) and sitting by the fire.

Equally, on warmer days, nothing beats breakfast on the patio and evening BBQ's outside. The garden is so big, games of hide and seek last forever!

The cottage is in a fantastic location for all the best beaches along the Jurassic Coast. Firm favourites with us are Beer, Branscombe and Lyme Regis. Crealy Adventure Park and World of Country Life would win our kids' vote every time!

Stunning home from home in great location.

  • 5 of 5

The property is absolutely stunning and sits in a fantastic location. It is ideal for families and our little ones especially enjoyed the swings, slide and trampoline in the garden. It has been said before and I can only re-iterate how fantastic the owners are. Claire was unbelievably helpful in organising our break and went so far above and beyond what she needed to do to facilitate our stay.

I cannot recommend this property highly enough; Supremely clean, well equipped with excellent fixtures and fittings.

Well situated cottage ideal location for exploring Devon

  • 4 of 5

We loved the spaciousness of the cottage and also the large garden. Supermarkets were close to hand as were the local bus routes. Parking facilities were excellent. Close to the lovely city of Exeter and also the local coastline to the east and west of Sidmouth. We were a little disappointed that some of the cooking tins were too large to fit in the oven and then couldn't find any smaller cooking pots for smaller items but this was our only misgiving. Perhaps a light over the dining room table would have been helpful as it was the main hub of the cottage. Overall we really enjoyed the cottage and had a restful and relaxing week . Many thanks John & Brenda

Wonderful cosie cottage with loads of room and perfect detailing

  • 5 of 5

From the cream tea on the table to the Egyptian cotton towels, the detailing in the cottage is perfect and made our stay absolutely wonderful. Perfect location, massive garden for the kids to play in, rooms around every corner for every family member. Cosie wood burner, satellite TV for the kids; shops, pubs, and gorgeous coastline around the corner... Beautiful place and beautiful cottage. Our family thanks you dearly.

A lovely spacious cottage and garden so suitable for our needs, one family, 3 generations.

  • 5 of 5

We have just arrived home after a weeks holiday at this lovely cottage. We are a family of 7 (3 generations) and the layout was ideal for us. The garden was fantastic for the children (ages 6 & 9), from the play equipment to lots of games of hide and seek (which continued indoors when wet) and even croquet. They had their own playroom which they thought was fab. From the moment we stepped in there was a lovely homely feel, add to that the personal welcome message on the board and the welcoming cream tea with lovely home made scones it was a great start to our holiday.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone and are already talking about booking another week there next year.

Fantastic house. Great space especially when there is more than one family.

  • 5 of 5

We all loved our stay at orchard cottage. The weather wasn't the best but we managed to do something every day. The house was perfect for two families with the children. There was several rooms do everyone could have there own space if they wanted but plenty of space to all come together. The kids loved the garden and lived in it when it wasn't raining. Facilities were great had everything we could want and we were welcomed with done yummy scones. The only thing we were lacking was a washing line but the lovely neighbor have us some old cord and we were happy. Thank you so much for a fantastic holiday.

The beach at Sidmouth is sandy at low tide and our favourite spot is Jacob's Ladder, situated at the far side towards the hotels. There is a beach shop/cafe there or if you fancy a cream tea or a nice lunch, take a trip to the lovely Clock Tower Cafe at Connaught gardens.

The picture post card village of Branscombe is just a short drive away, where a pub lunch at the Mason's Arms, then a stroll along the beach to walk it off is a must!

The nearby fishing village of Beer is a great place to watch the local fishermen bring in their catch fresh from the sea.. Beer is one of the few places left, where they still winch the boats directly on to the beach. There are a number of pubs and restaurants in which to sample the fish -The Anchor Inn is one of our favourites,

Crealy Adventure Park is a must for the kids and is only a 10-15 minute drive away. Seaton Tramway, The Donkey Sanctuary, World of Country Life and Bicton Gardens are all great family fun days out.

Foodies will love The River Cottage Canteen & Deli - Hugh Fearnley Whittenstall's famous restaurant at Axminster (Don't forget to book ahead!)
