Overview

About the property

Characterful property sleeping 4 in 2 rooms, idyllic views

Charmingly decorated with French vintage furniture and original artworks, our house in the little village of Tursac has a flat enclosed garden and a terrace shaded by a fig tree (fairy lights at night). The kitchen has a 5-burner gas hob and large oven, fridge-freezer and dishwasher, as well as a professional stainless steel island. The separate dining room seats up to six, and also has an upright piano. The drawing room with french windows onto the garden is a cosy room with exposed beams and colourful rugs. Games and books are provided. The queensize four poster bed in main bedroom is comfortable as well as elegant; while the twin bedroom features traditional toile de jouy decor. The large bathroom has an original cast iron bath with handheld shower and an enclosed loo. All these rooms have wonderful views across open fields to the river Vezere and the world famous archaeological site of La Madeleine. There is a second loo downstairs. The oil fired central heating heats the house well if needed. Our intriguing home will suit two couples or a family with older teenagers (16+) who can take advantage of the area's beauty and history. The house is full of character, decorated with brocante and vintage items, some of which are fragile. This of course adds to the charm, but extra care will be needed.

Outside: There is plenty of garden furniture including modern sun beds as well as a vintage day bed. The table and chairs on the terrace provide a perfect place for shady lunches and sunset dinners. An ancient vine shades the ground floor windows.

A car is necessary to reach the shops, although there is a restaurant in the village. The valley of the Vezere has been popular for the last 30 thousand years and remains unspoilt and breathtakingly beautiful. Surrounded by major prehistoric sites, with the National Centre for Prehistory just down the road,

Tursac is ideally placed for a fascinating stay, but the real joy is the house itself, quirky and yet comfortable, with glorious views. NB. Neither TV nor INTERNET. A real holiday!

About Antonia & Roland Robertson

Roland and Plodge Robertson live and work in an independent school in Bath and have spent many of the school holidays in Tursac over the last thirteen years. We are food lovers and Francophiles, with a particular interest in France's architectural heritage. When not in Tursac, we enjoy visiting other parts of France by car and camping.

Antonia & Roland Robertson purchased this house in 2003

Why Antonia & Roland Robertson chose Tursac

We had spent many happy camping holidays at a nearby campsite and were thinking of buying a house in France when we saw the A Vendre sign on this house. It doesn't look much from the street, but the garden and view on the other side sold it to us, plus the southwest aspect. Perfect for evening drinks!

What makes this house unique

Surrounded by major prehistoric sites, with the National Centre for Prehistory just down the road,

Tursac is ideally placed for a fascinating stay, but the real joy is the house itself, quirky and yet comfortable, with glorious views.

trop peu !

  • 1 of 5

Owner's Response: We were so sorry that the access arrangements were not at all clear and easy for you, and we have taken steps to ensure that this problem is addressed. We can well understand that your review concentrates on the first day which went badly; but we hope that the rest of your stay, though you did not describe it, was as happy and peaceful as the many summers our family has spent there.

Tursac is surrounded by history. Some of the best historic sites of the area are within a few kilometres: the Roque St Christophe (4.5km) and Maison Forte de Reignac (1.9km) are fascinating and well worth a visit, while the world famous archaeological site of La Madeleine (which gave its name to the Magdalenian era of prehistory) is just across the Vezere. There is canoeing on the river from Les Eyzies (7.6km) and St Leon (9.7km).
