About the property

Surrounded by craggy peaks and lush greenery, guests will not want to leave this newly built, beautifully designed and well-appointed home where relaxing is ease itself.

Betraying a deft decorative touch bespoke items of furniture dovetail seamlessly with user-friendly modern appliances keeping the quality quotient impressively high.

Just 15 minutes from Kalkan, Islamlar is a tranquil, unspoiled oasis of Turkish charm famous for its quaint family-run restaurants specializing in freshwater trout - one of the oldest and best, Degirmen Restaurant, is just 1.3km with a good minimarket at 1.4km.

From your parking space right in front of the main entrance of the house, you enter to the house using 100 years old double door to lobby of the house. You are welcomed by your own appearance on antique full length mirror and a chest right in front.

The main floor has a common bathroom on right side with a bedroom attached. The bedroom with its queen size bed is in deep blue colors with its sliding doors opening to the pool directly.

Living room has L shaped couch and two single armchairs that makes watching your HD television joyous. Dining table is right in the living room which is attached to the kitchen. The table is made of an 80 year old Aegean door and chairs are cushion covered village style wooden chairs.

Kitchen is full equipped with Siemens oven, stove and a dishwasher. Refrigerator is a single door style with a large drawer freezer at the bottom. Other equipments are; Microwave, kettle, coffee machine and a toaster.

The living room has two sliding doors opening to the pool and one sliding door to the dining patio. The pool side has an hardwood arbor with comfortable cushions to relax and to watch the sunset. The lounge chairs are all hardwood with sponge beds covering them. Two large parasols are movable around the lounge chairs that makes life easier while you are chasing the sun.

Our outside dining patio looks at Patara Beach and amazing sunset. Our dining table is a teak bull cut hardwood table with armed cushioned chairs. Over the dining area a large pergola covers it to take cooler breaks from the sun.

The land has three terraces full of olive trees. The land before construction was an olive groove and we lost only 9 trees during construction. Now there are more than 30 olive trees on the land.

The three bedrooms are located upstairs which you can reach by a hardwood staircase. There is an ally with three doors facing to it. All the bedrooms upstairs have their attached private bathrooms with high quality Vitra tiles, Huppe shower cabins, hardwood furnishings, hair dryers, towels etc. The mattresses are high quality with impressive 5 star hotel linens and towels. All the beds have 4 pillows with two feather and two silicon fillings.

The aquarium room we call it due its impressive tableau through its large window, is the master bedroom with its super king size bed, a love seat and a convenient size closet for your delightful relaxing days. The glass door is an exit to the balcony which has a bistro style table and chairs for your midnight chats watching the stars and the moon.

The middle room has a regular king size bed with a closet. You can watch the impressive view from your ceiling to floor window and if that is not enough you can get out to the balcony for some fresh air. The bathroom attached to it has a window looking to the green hills and turquoise sea.

The last room on this floor has two single beds and two single size closets. It has an attached bathroom and a window looking to Patara beach and sunset.

About ILKAY UTAS

We moved to Islamlar with my husband when I was 7 months pregnant to my first baby. We were able to finish our first house on a higher cliff than LunaRosso in June 2012. We are happily living in Islamlar since then. Now we have two daughters.

After I finished my college degree, I moved to New York City. Stayed in New York City from 1995 to 2005 as a production manager to many fashion brands. After years I moved to Istanbul and met my husband who was also in love with Turquoise Coast of Turkey so we built our houses here.

PASTORAL MEDITATION

Islamlar village with its dramatic rolling scenery that offers every hour a subtle change of hue, productive lands, from time to time swirling cloud and sudden showers; welcome to high plateau life on the Mediterranean Taurus mountains.

Have you heard about Islamlar Village? Or Bodamya if you prefer the old Greek name? Like most of the responses I get I am sure you will say ‘No’. Strange then that foreigners know Islamlar better than we Turks for it is fast becoming a hot spot for luxury villas. Moreover, 80% of visitors are English and the rest a rainbow of passports from five different continents.

600 metres above the sea, Pine, Cedar and hundred-year-old Juniper forest surround this mountain village that is a part of the Kaş district of the thriving province of Antalya. Civilisation has ticked on for five thousand years without interruption.

During Lycian and Roman times, these mountains supplied the water for the ancient coastal towns such as Patara. In fact, the meaning of the Greek name Bodamya is ‘rivers’; and wherever you turn your head, you come across a Lycian rock thumb or a historical water cistern.

And too, it offers a welcome escape from the summer heat with its ice cold rivers and forests up on the Mediterranean plateau. This is especially true during July, August and September when the Antalya region swelters. Indeed, after spending a whole day breathing its clean air with no humidity, you might need a shawl at night.

The story goes that after settlement by Muslims, the village is named after Islam Bey as “ISLAMLAR”, while the locals still call it Bodamya. "And talking about history of this land" says my host Osman Utaş, Owner of Villa Mira, "even the table you are drinking your coffee on is 650-year-old cedar. And reflect, when this tree was planted Istanbul was under Byzantine rule”.

What makes this villa unique

In Villa whatever you touch reminds you that you are close to nature. For example, pistachio shampoos, olive oil soap, hair treatment oil made from aromatic herbs and organic tooth paste are among the first things you notice. The same natural look is all over the linen curtains, hundred percent cotton linens and organic towels. Healing natural spring water runs through your tap while many visitors have to fly over hundreds of miles to drink it. The infinity pool with breath taking scenery is filled with this natural spring water with a PH level 11 and only organic rock salt is used to chlorinate it.

For one minute I feel like a kid in a candy store. Shall I hurl myself in to the pool? Stretch out on the sunbed for a sun soak? Or sink in the soft pillows of the gazebo by the pool?

Owing to its steep hills, yogurt, cheese, butter and cream are made from goat milk. I now understand what real no-additive organic real cheese tastes like; a strong smell and a sharp taste. For shopping, I ask about the village market. Osman tells me there is a village market in different locations nearly every day, but we never visit. We have a system in the village; you get a case of apples if your neighbour has it, you can suddenly get a bin of goat milk at your doorway or your door bell rings and there is a tray of village bread cooked next door. Such is life in Islamlar…

My second day, I am already starting to get used to the sounds and stillness of the village and I even start to recognise the different bird songs. While watching the steady plod of the turtle on the lawn you start to get lost in time. Right at that moment as I read the comments left by previous guests about the villas, I learned the reason why guests are reluctant sometimes to sortie out. Of course you want to visit the silky sand of Patara beach, plunging Kaputas gorge and Kalkan beaches but then you are just as keen to get back to your villa and enjoy the sunset from your terrace.

A Unique and Decadent Experience on Turkey's Mediterranean Coast

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I booked the villa for a romantic weekend getaway, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay! The villa is an hour and a half from Dalaman Airport and only a ten-minute drive into the hills above Kalkan, just past the tiny village of Islamlar. The moment we arrived, we knew we stumbled into our own secluded slice of paradise. While the rustic landscape makes you feel like you’re in a remote, forgotten corner of the world, the villa itself has all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury accommodation- wireless internet, full-service kitchen, TV and stereo, hot water, clean towels/linens, washer/dryer, etc. I also have to mention how spacious the accommodations are; it was just the two of us, but the villa could easily fit eight guests. We spent most of our time enjoying the peaceful solitude of the villa, but it’s only a short drive from Kalkan and Kas, both of which are charming harbor towns with excellent restaurants, boutiques, and live music. Islamlar village also has many delicious restaurants open to serve fresh, local delights. Our trip was in the off-season month of December, so we could not do the typical Mediterranean activities of swimming and sunbathing. However, the weather was ideal for brisk hikes up into the hills- if you venture a kilometer or so past the villa, you’ll see some amazing Lycian tombs carved into the rock face. Evenings were spent preparing home cooked meals and stargazing on the balcony with cups of hot tea and several rounds of card games. At the end of our trip, the owner, Ilkay, even did us a favor by calling our car rental agency and confirming our scheduled car drop-off at the airport. Overall, we had an amazing trip and would love to return in the summer to enjoy that infinity pool with an endless view of the Mediterranean Sea.

Owner's Response: We were very delighted to actually have you in our villa at New Years time. Hope this fresh entrance to your new year chases you all year around. Thank you for your review. We will love to see you again at summer time but as you know we love it around here at off season times with clouds and reflections of them over the sea. All the way from Philadelphia to our village must have been a great change. Hope rest of your trip is going well in Turkey. You are welcomed anytime, looking forward to hear from you. İlkay
