A rural and picturesque county in the south of England, Dorset is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with a timeless charm, pretty villages, country lanes and a fabulous stretch of 200 million year-old coastline known as The Jurassic Coast.

In fact The Jurassic Coast has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its ancient geology and is of course a great place for wonderful views over the English Channel and cliff-top walks.

Dorset has wonderful walking country which is a great way to appreciate the unspoilt beauty of this region, or you could maybe take to the quiet country roads and off road cycle ways. It's a place to kick back and relax with lots of traditional country pubs and fine restaurants to discover.

The seaside towns of Bournemouth and Weymouth come highly recommended with lovely beaches and plenty of fresh sea air. You can reach the beach at Swanage via the heritage railway; it's one of the best ways to soak up your surrounds and ensure complete relaxation. With stops at Corfe Castle and the small sleepy oasis of Harman's Cross, it's also one of the best ways to get a unique perspective of Dorset's many attractions, and a true feel for its unspoiled beauty.

Also of note is Brownsea Island which offers a number of attractions for visitors, including lush woodland, an indigenous red squirrel population and a 16th century castle. For a great family day out visit Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre at Wareham where you'll find over 250 rescued monkeys and apes providing plenty of entertainment and education.

Dorset is renowned for its varied landscape and is suitable for all sorts of different holidays. Its long coastline is a perfect for cliff top walks and stunning sea views and the region's beaches are ideal for families who simply want to unwind on the sand or get active with surfing and sailing readily available; along with some expert tuition for those who fancy getting their feet wet! Then again, if you just want somewhere to relax and soak up the beautiful English countryside, you'll be equally well served by what a cottage holiday in Dorset has to offer.

Lovely properly

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Ferndown. It’s a lovely properly, decorated to a high standard and with plenty of space for our family of 4 (2 children). Kitchen was well stocked with equipment, beds were comfortable, big garden and good set up for kids.

The area is well supplied with shops and was only about 30 mins from Bournemouth. We also visited Monkey World which was about 45 mins away but great for kids.

We also went to a great pub for lunch called The Worlds End in Blandord. Highly recommend!

Vanessa (the owner) was really great with communication and fast responses.

Felt at home as soon as we stepped through the door.

  • 5 of 5

AMAZING! We stayed for two nights and felt right at home.

The bungalow is very well kept and clean throughout and has everything we needed. the beds are so comfortable that we over slept and that never happens.

In the perfect location for where we needed to get to and local shops and pubs near by. Will definitely rent again next year.

A Wonderful Christmas Stay

  • 5 of 5

We have had a brilliant Christmas at Bayleaf Bungalow. Lovely clean rooms. Excellent furnishings. The layout was perfect for a family Chistmas . Vanessa decorated a Christmas Tree and had made the bungalow very festive. This place is of the highest quality.

Lovely, clean, bright and spacious bungalow

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this bungalow accommodation. It was newly refurbished, very clean, spacious and conveniently laid out. It had all the features and appliances we could need, including washing machine and dishwasher. It was perfect for our family of four and could have housed two more comfortably. We liked that it had three bedrooms because then our two young children had their own rooms, which helps their sleeping patterns. It was also a lovely touch that one of the beds was a perfect size for a smaller child. There were plenty of children's books, board games and local info too. Large telly and WiFi came in handy. We also liked the detailed info that Vanessa sends a link to once your booking is complete. This included useful videos on how to operate the cooker (which is very easy anyway) and the refuse bins etc. Also ample parking in the driveway and nice garden. The key box system is secure and easy to operate on arrival.

Lots to see and do in the area including the lovely New Forest, and Peppa Pig World if that happens to be an inevitability on a young family's agenda!

Plenty of shops, supermarkets and amenities within easy reach.

We really enjoyed this accommodation and would stay again in the future.
