Country cottage - vintage inspired - perfect for a romantic break

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom

Groom's Cottage is a self-catering cottage in the Scottish Borders. This charming vintage-inspired holiday rental is set in the Georgian stables at Wedderburn Castle and offers traditional style with modern comforts.

Downstairs there is a sitting/kitchen/dining area with open fireplace, flat-screen television, DVD player and a pine dining table. The stunning tiles on the floor were salvaged from the old dairy at nearby Paxton House and the space is full of character. Upstairs there is a comfortable double bedroom with adjoining bathroom with a romantic roll-top bath. The cosy cottage has 24-hour oil central heating and hot water.

The cottage has a garden outside as well as parking. It is surrounded by the grounds of Wedderburn Castle and you are welcome to walk around the glorious parkland and woodland on the estate.

Groom's Cottage is a great base to explore the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. To the East there are dramatic coastal walks at Coldingham and St Abbs as well as beaches and some great diving. To the West there are country houses, ruined abbeys and hills. To the North you can find Edinburgh (just an hour's drive away) and East Lothian, while to the South you can visit Berwick-upon-Tweed, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle and the sights of Northumberland.

There are a large number of walks close to the cottage and it is also well located for Borders cycle routes. There is a golf course within two miles and lots of others within an easy drive. There is also a golf driving range within walking distance.

Groom's Cottage is a cosy country retreat in a unique location.

Pleasant rural retreat

  • 4 of 5

Pleasant property, in nice country environment. By today's standard's the kitchen was basic, and the kitchen equipment even more so ( only x3 small wine glasses, all different. X2 beer glasses, one stuffed with tea bags - had to re-wash a number of plates/pans on arrival)

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We were glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. It was nice to meet you while you were enjoying some drinks outside. We were a little puzzled by the comment about glasses as when I went in to check the inventory after your visit there were six tall glasses, three wine glasses and two pint glasses. Apologies if this was not enough though. Visit Scotland graded the cottage as a 3-star cottage which hopefully gives everybody an appropriate indication of what can be found in the kitchen. There is a new hob, oven, microwave and extractor fan. There is not a dishwasher but we often find with other two-person cottages we run that people wash up by hand anyway as it takes a while for two people to fill a dishwasher! We very much hope to welcome you back some time. Please just request additional glasses in advance of any future visits and we can make sure they are put in place for you.
