A magical secret garden retreat.
After some trouble locating the villa because of it's tucked away location we were very glad to meet our gracious host who had taken such great care to provide all that we could need to make our stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. The cottage is surrounded by a dappled cicada-thronged garden of oak, olive and fig trees with sunny well appointed corners and comfy seats and tables. We loved the day-bed for lazy afternoons reading books and dozing, and ate our meals out in the dining gazebos. Brilliant to have a garden wc & shower-room too! The pool was a perfect cool-down after the extreme heat of that particular summer, and the children spent almost every waking hour in it! Inside we enjoyed the rustic Italian styling, with a cute little kitchen, and all the useful things we might need during our stay. The main bedroom was very comfortable and spacious and the second bedroom was well appointed but a little cramped for our two bickering children so we made up the sofa-bed in the living room to keep the peace. We weren't prepared for the biting insects too, so pack the Jungle Formula when you visit! The delightful little town of Anacapri is only a ten minute (STEEP) walk away. There are lovely shops, galleries, attractions and bars, and it is sleepier and more understated than flashy Capri which is only a short bus ride away, and worth a visit just to see all the elegant mediterranean bling! A highlight for me was to wake early and walk down the steep rocky path to the Grotto Azzuro for a swim at the bathing platform there. And you simply must not miss the drama of hiring a little rowing boat to take you into the breathtaking grotto itself.
We can't wait to return!
