Tivauche is a beautifully restored farmhouse which sits on the edge of a sleepy hamlet with fine views over the Auxois countryside. Vast open-plan living area with comfortable armchairs around old stone fireplace, dining area, well equipped kitchen & french doors leading onto the patio & garden. Spacious bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. All linen and towels provided with beds made up. Nearby towns of Epoisses & Semur-en-Auxois provide plenty of choice for bars, restaurants & shops. Superb walking & biking; visits to historical sites (Cistercian Fontenay abbey, Vézelay basilica); Chateaux (Epoisses, Bussy Rabutin, Ancy le Franc); Medieval towns (Flavigny sur Ozerain, Noyers sur Serein) ; Markets (Dijon, Chablis, Avallon, Montbard); Lac du Pont (ideal for watersports); Morvan National Park , Golf & Tennis nearby.

5 hour drive from Calais or Zeebrugge. 1 hour TGV train to Paris or Euro Disney direct.

About Bill & Jenny

Bill was born in Bath and having completed university in Wales, avoided working in an office by running away to operate hotel barges on the canals and rivers of France. Jenny, a Prue Leith trained chef, left London for two weeks to cover for a friend who needed a break from cooking.

Both Bill and Jenny intended to move on from Burgundy, but with the addition of dogs and children and the realisation that they already lived in one of the most beautiful parts of Europe, why change a thing?

Why Bill & Jenny chose Montbard area

For seven years we lived a 10 minute walk away from this property. The last two of these years were spent scouring the region looking for an interesting place to buy and renovate - it was a satisfying discovery when this search finally brought us to the perfect farmhouse on our doorstep!

What makes this farmhouse unique

We often say, 'there's magic in the air in Tivauche'!

The locals love it here and visitors keep coming back time after time - naturally we do everything we can to make your stay comfortable, but we cannot take all of the credit for people's attachment to Tivauche-le-Haut.

The view from the terrace looking towards the Morvan park is wonderful. At night the same terrace makes a perfect star gazing platform as there's no light pollution.

With our rural location, we sometimes feel wonderfully 'lost in France', and yet day trips to Paris are possible as it's only one hour by TGV train + 15 minutes to Montbard station.

Tours can be arranged for winetasting, biking, walking, bird watching, ballooning and world war two resistance sites

Massage, yoga and pilates can also be arranged.

We can provide a taxi service with our comfortable air conditioned VW minibus if you want a break from driving at any time during your stay (Bill is a qualified coach and truck driver).

And of course evening meals are available upon request from Jenny - just tell us what you like to eat!

Fantastic Gite

Great gite, in a lovely area. It’s always a good sign when you get a wow when you enter a place to stay and this place got 3 wow’s, living room and the two bedrooms. Shower in the upstairs bedroom was luxurious, it was like having a hot waterfall flowing over you, the shower head was so big.

We stayed in early April and although a bit chilly in the morning the weather was good enough to eat out in the garden, lovely to see the morning mist rolling down the valley.

Nice walks with the dog from the gite but you do need a car as no shop, facilities within walking distance. Epoisses had a boulangerie and a small supermarket and of course the cheese shop, it was only 10 minutes away in the car which was quite handy.

Garden is secure for dogs so no chance of escape and it was nice to watch the sheep wander in the adjacent field.

We visited Dijon, Autun and Semur and had really good lunches out, Plat du jour, of course.

Bill was really helpful when we couldn’t light the log fire, even though he was on holiday he phoned us back and explained where we were going wrong. We also left our camcorder which Bill and Jenny very kindly parcelled up and sent back to us. We would love to have met Bill and Jenny, maybe on our next stay.

Gorgeous! Perfect place to explore and relax

Tivauche is the perfect place to explore this beautiful area of France. Bill and Jenny were amazingly helpful with near encyclopaedic knowledge of the area! Nothing was too much trouble and they were the perfect hosts. The house is warm, welcoming, beautifully decorated and well equipped with great space inside and a calm peaceful outlook from the garden. The local cheese shop in Epoisse is gorgeous with lots of tempting treats and it is a superb base to explore the local vineyards. The quiet roads and the canal path for cycling and walking make this a superb holiday bet.

Beautiful relaxing vacation home .

What a lovely property. The Farmhouse in Tivauche is well-maintained, clean and well equipped. Bill and Jenny were helpful, friendly and very attentive hosts. This house is a delightful old farmhouse with all the modern conveniences including Wi-Fi. There is a lovely private patio overlooking the beautiful golden wheat fields that stretch out as far as the eye can see. We had a wonderful relaxed vacation for four weeks and have made plans to return next year. The local cheese factory and bakery were a hit with us. There is also easy access to many chateaus and vineyards in the surrounding area.

Beautiful old house in peaceful surroundings.

We stayed at the property for two wonderful weeks in the Summer, and this was the third time we have stayed there. We went back because it is just such a lovely place to stay. The house has been renovated to a high standard, whilst retaining its character, and is very well equipped, especially the kitchen. The property was very clean, and everything seemed well-maintained. There is Wi-Fi access, which is very handy for checking-out all the local attractions and weather. The two main bedrooms are spacious, light and very comfortable, and as there are just the two of us, we had a hard task in deciding which one to use! The big garden at the rear of the house has a great view of the local countryside, and is so quiet. It's a great place to lie-out and relax. The night skies are amazing, being so dark, and we spent hours stargazing most evenings.

The owners, Bill and Jenny, were, as always, welcoming and very helpful, and they know all the best places to dine, visit and enjoy. There are some lovely small towns just a short drive away, including Semur en Auxois, Avallon, Noyers and Vezelay, and each one is well worth a visit. Semur is closest, about 15 minutes away, and there are several great places there to have a meal, a drink or a pleasant walk.

We go to Burgundy mainly for the cycling, and it really is a terrific area; gently rolling countryside, hills if you want them, and almost traffic-free roads in good condition. We covered a few hundred miles, and each one was a pleasure!

I have no doubt we will go back again, and indeed are already planning another stay.

Great Farmhouse in Lovely Setting

We loved this farmhouse. It looked exactly as we would have expected a French country farmhouse to look – the old world charm of beamed ceilings, stone fireplace, shuttered windows – with tastefully added modern conveniences. The views of the countryside from the garden and the upstairs, vaulted ceiling bedroom were gorgeous.

Tivauche is a hamlet of about a dozen homes without any shops so it is very tranquil. It’s an easy 5 minute drive to Epoisses which has all of the typical village shops and a charming chateau. Although it seems remote we were less than an hour away from any our planned excursions.

Bill and Jenny, the owners, live right next door. They were available if we needed them (which we didn’t) but otherwise we only knew if they were home if we could see their car in the courtyard.

There are about 20 houses in the hamlet of Tivauche-le-Haut. It is a quiet place with no working farms. Relatively high with great views stretching into the Morvan national park. The nearby (15 min) medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois is an undiscovered gem. Driving times to major towns are as follows; Dijon 1 hr, Beaune 1 hr, Auxerre 50 min, Chablis 45 min, Avallon 25 min, Montbard 20 min. From Montbard the TGV train to Paris takes just one hour.
