About this property

Beautiful chateau with pool and enclosed park in Loire Valley

This chateau built in 1820 offers a beautiful setting and spacious room with abundant outside light. It offers 9 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms and is totally safe for children. All living rooms and bedrooms face to the south with a view to the park and the countryside up to 15 kilometres. The ground level has a stone floored hall distributing the main reception rooms (a living room, a library, a TV boudoir and a dining room). The kitchen has a large monastery table that can easily host ten guests for casual meals. On the upper floor, there are 3 master bedrooms and 2 suites with a view to the south, the park and the surrounding countryside. Each of the 2 suites has a large master bedroom, a smaller bedroom and a bathroom. Each of the 3 master bedrooms has its own bathroom. One extra bedroom of smaller dimension is situated on each floor. The chateau is well furnished with modern appliances, dining ware for 16, ping pong table and garden furniture. The rental includes 2 hours of daily maid service except on Sundays and Holidays.

General information: The chateau de la Plaine is a great place for family vacations or reunions: lots of space, lots of things to do (for example wine tasting, zipping or water skiing), a safe environment for children, wonderful food, wine and restaurants, friendly locals, etc. It is also a wonderful starting point for those that are interested in history and architecture, with the close proximity of the chateaux de la Loire, wonderful old churches and abbeys, etc. And finally, it is also a great place if your idea of a vacation is to just sit around, read and relax.

POOL 1. Please do not temper, and do not let your children temper, at any time, with the pool filtering system, pool equipment or robot. Replacement cost for the pool pump/robot are 1000 euros each! 2. Children and teenagers are to be under supervision at all times. 3. Do not throw the pool loungers into the pool (yes, it has happened!) as this may puncture the liner. Re placement cost is several thousand euros…. 4. No glass at the pool please. 5. Please always close the sun umbrella when leaving the pool in order to prevent wind damage. Indoors 1. Very Important: Please do not throw anything else than toilet paper into the toilets. We have a septic tank that will not function properly if you do. 2. Please note that should your children not be clean at night, we kindly ask you to bring your own waterproof mattress cover. The mattress covers at the chateau are not all waterproof. 3. Please be very careful not to spill liquids over the parquet floors (they are waxed), the furniture or marble as these stains will be close to impossible to remove. 4. Glasses should not be set down on furniture unless on a tray or on a table mat. 5. We also ask you to be careful when opening various doors and windows as drafts will easily cause them to violently slam and may break a window. 6. Curtains are for decorative purposes only. Please use shutters when you wish to darken a room. DO NOT USE THE CURTAINS. The ceilings are so high that there is a risk you will tear the curtain rods out of the walls. This has happened las summer. Repair cost over 200 euros. 7. Please do not move the beds and/or furniture around. 8. Please do not use your bedrooms towels at the swimming pool. There are some beach towels in the lower shelf of the buffet in the dining room. 9. Very Important: Do not walk with wet feet on the parquet floor in the bedrooms. If you do, the parquet floors will be badly stained. 10. Please do not help yourselves in the linen closets upstairs. Sheets and towels are stored there for the next set of guests. Your own sets of towels are placed in your bedrooms or bathrooms. 11. Thank you for not undoing the beds that you will not be using.

Stunning chateau and perfect holiday
We have just spent an idyllic two weeks with extended family in this glorious and charismatic chateau. The property and grounds are beautiful and incredibly spacious, meaning everyone felt instantly relaxed. We spent lots of time drinking coffee in the garden, recharging in the sun at the pool or strolling around the huge grounds, and stargazing at night in the incredibly clear skies! The rooms were all very clean, with lovely furnishings and en suite bathrooms. Double doors and thick walls meant it was well sound proofed so that early risers or night owls didn’t disturb anyone. Very well set up kitchen and dining room, although we ate our meals outside as it was so lovely . Tv and games rooms were good for teenagers when they are wanted a bit of respite from the sun. Chinon was well worth a visit for the medieval festival, and the free water sports at the lake at chatellerault were great. Highly recommend wine tasting at domaine de villemont, and Mario’s pizza for takeaway in lencloitre. Would highly recommend this lovely property.

Why they chose this property

The area is just wonderful. I grew up in Brittany, and eventhough that region is absolutely lovely, the unpredictable and wet weather is not something I appreciated. In Poitou-Charentes, we have found that the weather is a lot drier (we have a drought pretty much every summer) and a lot warmer as well. Another thing that we love is the density of monuments in that area, from abbeys to medieval castles to cathedrals, all built with the white stone of the Loire Valley chateaux.
