Charming high comfort appartment - private spa - enjoy a combination of nature and culture on the Barthelasse Island just in front of Avignon's historical centre!

Bedrooms 1
Space 538 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

"Le Mazet des Papes" (litteraly "the Popes' Cottage") is a 20 ha property ideally located less than 10 minutes driving from the Popes' Palace in Avignon, at the end of a very quiet road alongside river Rhône. It's very easy to park near bridge Daladier and just cross the river to be quickly in the city centre. You will experience life on an organic farm producing peaches, apricots, pears... on the island of Barthelasse.

Your appartment is located on the first floor of a renovated Provence house with very thick walls, which provide ideal temperature all year round - heating available if needed.

It consists of a nicely decorated comfortable bedroom with a large double bed of 160 cm, a bathroom (with a shower) and a separate kitchen, as well as a beautiful open living room with sight on the country side, with your own private spa for you to relax and refresh yourselves. Enjoyable in summer as well as during the winter!

The lodging is ideal for a couple, but you may accomodate 2 children on the 2 spare beds (supplement cost).

We offer the possibility of ordering fresh French bread or croissants, which you may accompany by our eggs, jams or fruit juices produced on the farm (peach, apricot, pear...)

A Nespresso coffee machine is at your disposal, you may order additional capsules from us.

You may also rent bicycles at the farm and try out one of our itineraries nearby.

Rinske, was the perfect host, very helpful with directions and advice about the area and things to see and do. Their organic produce is amazing, we wish we had a permanent supplying in Australia. The outdoor spa was fantastic at the end of the day, enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sunset. Would highly recommend staying here, you can do as much or as littl as you like.

A quiet get away nead Avignon

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed 4 nights at Mazet-des-Papes in October. The locale is great and the hosts were very kind. While in the area, we visited the Chauvet caves which are not far away -- fantastic drawings from 36000 years ago.

I would highly recommend this as a holiday destination if you are planning on visiting Avignon but prefer to stay away from the city hustle and bustle. We spent a fabulous 4 days here and cycled the beautiful provence roads surrounding here and would cycle into Avignon. Thanks Rinske

Wonderful apartment near Avignon

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week at this lovely apartment, situated on an organic farm near Avignon. Rinske and Loic were warm, gracious hosts and made us feel at home. The farm is within 10 mins driving distance of Avignon, and is an ideal base to explore the neighbouring areas. The apartment itself is completed to a high quality, modern standard and comes with a fully equipped kitchen. Highly recommended!

"We stayed in this apartment in April this year and enjoyed every minutes of our holiday

It was very convenient to reach Avignon by car (it’s about 10 minutes) and being a little way out of Avignon was peaceful and relaxing. This apartment is a little oasis just outside the old city walls in Avignon We were made to feel extremely welcome by the owner of the apartment. She is friendly, helpful, spoke excellent English and made our stay a very happy one.

Comfortable room with kitchenett. Free private parking. Very usable for trips in Avignon and around.

it was a lovely oasis with a garden and terrace with private SPA. The house had a relaxing feel about it and we felt at home

"We had a wonderful week ...

"We had a wonderful week at our Organic fruit farm.It was a little difficult to find, but very worth the effort. Our hostess was lovely and very helpful. From the beautiful fresh fruit juices that we received through to going with her to the local market

every day was enjoyable. The accommodation was very clean ,the kitchen was modern with all the utensils needed to whip up a meal. The Nespreso machine was a welcome touch. We ate most of our breakfasts outside overlooking the fruit trees and beautiful Conifers standing proud and tall.Late afternoons with a bottle of wine on the verandah were a good way to reflect on the day, some days sitting in the spa . We often had to remind ourselfes that we were not the only ones on the farm as the quietness and lack of noise was surprising.A comfy bed and a clean modern bathroom complete the picture. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to family and friends."

From the A7 heading South, take the exit "Avignon Nord / Centre", and follow the signs "Centre" and then "La Barthelasse".

Once on the island, head North on road number CD228, following the signs of the camping "Parc des Libertés" (which you will leave on your right). You will drive past the beautiful mediaeval town of Villeneuve les Avignon.

Continue straight North for another kilometer, then turn right on the "Chemin du Mazet". Then take the 2nd path to your right, into the Chemin du Bosquet.

We remain at your disposal to assist you with ideas and tips about the activities and attractions available in the surroundings, whether they concern culture, gastronomy or sports.

Enjoy the atmosphere of Avignon's famed theater festival - there are enough performances where no knowledge of the language is required. You may also visit the Popes' Palace, or take advantage of our 2 ha pond, of kilometers of hiking or cycling paths near the Rhône river and in the surrounding forests, or go the the 50-meter swimming pool at 5 minutes from here. Or visit the famous Chateauneuf du Pape's vineyards (at less then 10 km away) or the Pont du Gard or other Roman ruins in the area...
