Oozing charm, but with all modern updates, we invite you to relax in our spacious and comfortable home from home. Renovated to a high standard by sourcing local traditional materials, the house consists of 2 double bedrooms with 2 single beds each, one of which is on the ground floor for those with mobility problems, master bedroom with double bed and veranda doors leading directly onto the terraces, airy comfortable lounge, bathrooms and spacious well equipped kitchen leading directly to outdoor areas. Along with WiFi, AC, satellite with free view to air English & Portuguese TV channels, and heating. About The Owner

We are a Portuguese husband and English wife team who frequently visited Portugal for holidays. We chose Tavira to settle and raise our family, as not only was it my husbands birth place, but also one of the most beautiful and family orientated places we had ever been to. The children settled and adjusted to life in Portugal immediately and have all been educated locally. My husband is in construction and I am forever finding him little jobs to do. Our Tavira house project started out as one of these little jobs..

Why The Owner chose Tavira

We immediately fell in love with the house. It was in a bad state of repair, but had such great potential and such a unique feel to it. Something that we couldn’t let slip by was the chance to own a part our family culture and heritage and the great opportunity to conserve this for future generations. Just a lick of paint is the phrase I remember using to convince my husband to buy. In reality we replaced everything, all that remained was the original outer thick clay and stone walls and it’s amazing historical location which can never be taken away. The renovation was a joint family effort and has been described by our family and friends as a true labour of love..

What makes this house unique

We consider ourselves to be very priviliged to own a part of the Historical Old Town. During renovation we made the decision not to destroy this unique house by converting it into two separate apartments, but to keep the original size, structure and fabulous outdoor spaces. Renovated to a high standard, yet remaining charming, original, comfortable and quirky with all modern living conditions. We used locally sourced traditional materials like the handmade clay floor tiles and high wooden ceilings. It is a true representation of the unique atmosphere that Tavira still retains. By keeping it’s unique charm we are hopefully capturing the essence of Tavira and its lovely warm & welcoming locals and it is this, along with it’s great central location, that makes our house and Tavira so very special.

Perfect house, location and host

We spent a week at this charming, full-of-character house, which is exactly as described. The three outside areas, which provide both sun and shade all day long, are a highlight, but the cool, clean, spacious, quirky interior also makes the place special. We had everything we needed for a thoroughly relaxing holiday.

The location is also ideal, being just a few minutes level walk from restaurants, bars, a supermarket and the bustling centre of Tavira. You couldn't really go wrong with any of the restaurants, all serving delicious food at good prices.

The owner Vicky and welcoming host Julie were both super-helpful, Julie being on hand to show us around initially and promptly answer questions throughout our stay. We also found the folks of Tavira to be extremely friendly and welcoming.

Thank you so much Vicky for sharing your house with us. It was perfect!

Tavira is an excellent place to stay. Good bus and train service to lots of different places. Plenty to visit in Tavira itself. Hope to return next year.

Real Portugal! Unique house that captures Tavira

This was our first visit to Tavira and we couldn't have been more pleased.

This lovely charming and traditional house that immediately felt like home. Located minutes away from all that is happening in this beautiful city, yet surprisingly peaceful and quiet!

Everything is immaculately clean, well maintained and so comfortable.

We were very pleasantly surprised to find such large terraces, as in our well travelled experience, outdoor spaces like this are hard to come by in town centre locations. A real bonus to this charming property in our opinion!

All the spaces are well thought out, well equipped and easily accommodated our party of 6.

The owner has worked hard to maintain the balance between tradition, character and modern, and it works perfectly.

Fantastic restaurants, cafes, Roman Bridge, ferry to the beach and well equipped supermarket with all that you need close by.

Can't fault anything. We had such a wonderful stay and were thrilled to have found this real gem of a house in such a beautiful city. One comment we would add is that the photographs really don't do this lovely house justice!

Thank you for a lovely stay. We have already recommended to family and friends.

SUPER HOLIDAYS

This is my second visit with partner and our young child. Found the house to be even more inviting than previous visit after having a complete update. The addition of good quality heating/Ac units was very welcome for the cooler nights, as were the new lounges which we were able to make use of throughout the day on one of the large sunny terraces. Well equipped with new appliances, bed linen, towels etc...

Super central location, quiete neighbourhood, and very easy to come and go.

Communication with owner quick, efficient and helpful.

Looking forward to returning soon! Would happily recommend to all.

Amazing location

We stayed at the Town House as 2 couples. We arrived quite late but we're met by the caretakers Wendy and Kev who provided a warm welcome and useful information. The location could not be better for exploring Tavira and the local area. Step outside the door and you are there!! We spend a few wonderful evenings at the bar / restaurant on the opposite corner. A delight. A perfect spot to stay.

The house is very comfortable with generous areas for outside seating. It was very clean and well exquiped. The beds were very very comfy.

Great house, centre of Tavira

Passed recent holidays in Tavira, the most picturesque town with its winding cobbled streets, sidewalk cafes and the best fresh fish restaurants.

Casa Marisol is located in the heart of all of this activity, but remains quiet and peaceful. An authentic, charming restored old traditional house with a modern twist. Clean, well maintained and well equipped. Spacious both inside and out and close to everything that is amazing about Tavira. All in all a great place to stay and look forward to our next stay at this lovely house.

Would definitely be happy to recommend.

Choose from a year round calendar of events.

Enjoy the fun of carnival in February and the religious parade at Easter. Visit nearby restaurants participating in the gastronomy festival in May, or enjoy the popular wine tasting festival in July.

Eat sardines and dance the night away with the locals in June at the celebration of Sao Joao, where the tradition of decorating the town in hand made paper flowers still continues.

Visit the European 'open air' film festival set amongst the magnificent cloisters of the Convento do Carmo in July/August. Enjoy outdoor live music, art and street theatre and free family entertainment at the height of summer.

A visit to the local fresh produce and fish market is a must, as is the monthly gypsy market, where bargains can be found.

Bird watching or cycling the Ecovia route via the most unspoilt nature reserve Ria Formosa Nature Park, where local bird life and flamingos are in abundance. Endangered species such as the chameleon, a reptile that only exists in the south of Portugal, can be found. The Ria Formosa is also known for the breeding of the Portuguese Water Dog.

Shellfish farming is a very economic activity in the tidal flats of the Ria Formosa, as is the informative display of how salt is produced from the local salt pans.

Many championship Golf courses close by. Benamor being the closest and just 5 mins drive. The most exclusive and best course Monte Rei Golf & Country Club a other prestigious courses are all within a 20 minute drive.

Experience the local cafe culture, and soak in the relaxing atmosphere of Tavira with its winding cobbled streets. Watch the world go by and enjoy a long cool drink in one of the many sidewalk cafes. Treat yourself to one of the infamous delicious Pastel de Nata cakes, originating in Lisbon and more recently being celebrated on “Bake off.”

Tavira with its warm, welcoming friendly locals who are representative of the Portuguese. Happy in sharing and celebrating their history, culture and treasures with you..
