About The Owner

Hi , we are a Portuguese husband and English wife team who have lived in Tavira for the past 12 years. We have three children who we brought to the Algarve when they were 10 years, 8 years and 2 years old. I am happy to say that the children settled and adjusted to life in Portugal immediately and soon became fluent in both languages. They have all been educated locally in the Portuguese system. My husband is in construction and works for a local building company. Needless to say that I am always keeping him busy and I am forever finding him little jobs to do. Our Tavira house project started out as one of these little jobs!..

Why The Owner chose Tavira region

We brought the house in Tavira town in 2006 and spent the last 3 years renovating it. The house was in a sorry state of repair, but had such great potential and a unique feel to it, and the location was just perfect!. I immediately fell in love with the place but my husband was a little apprehensive. 'Just a lick of paint' is the phrase I remember using to convince him to buy. In reality it took us 3 years, new floors, walls..in fact we replaced absolutely everything and all that remained was the outer shell. The house has been a joint family effort with the renovation, and whilst updating the property with all modern living conditions, we have kept many traditional features retaining the unique feel, and hopefully capturing the essence of Tavira. We have had plenty of highs and lots of lows along the way. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute, but I am happy that it finally came to an end. I am proud of the finished result and of the family for all of their hard work..

What makes this house unique

We are very proud to own a part of the Historical Old Town and are happy that we have not destroyed this unique building by converting it into two apartments, thus keeping the property spacious with lots of outdoor space. The location and the renovation of the property is its best feature, with fantastic restaurants serving fresh fish daily, good bars and cafes, supermarkets, local shops, places of interest, summer time free family entertainment, arts, culture, museums, great golf and not forgetting fabulous white safe sandy beaches ..something for all of the family young or old and all within minutes easy walking distance. Absolutely no car required. The close proximity and easy walking distance to everything cannot be beaten. The house has been renovated to a high standard and whilst having all modern living conditions it still manages to retain its old charm due to the fact that it is in a quiet, authentic Portuguese neighbourhood, where the locals are just great..always helpful, warm, welcoming and friendly. We are now ready to share the experience with you...

Beautiful house, great location, best holiday.

After visiting Tavira for the first time, I can say I am now hooked and I think it's because of your house Casa Marisol. It's a beautiful beautiful traditional townhouse, decorated well and with all the modern appliances you could need and so convenient to everything. A bonus is all the outdoor space, great for catching the sun, couldn't of asked for anything more!! I would also like to thank the Owner for a quick and easy booking process and her help, tips and suggestions on places to eat and places to visit etc. it made all the difference to our stay and can't wait to return.

great location

A well located traditional town house, close to the main river front of beautiful Tavira. A quirky design with all you need to make yourself at home. A shaded outside dining area planted with citrus, cactus and vine, and two more outside areas upstairs for barbecue and lounging around. The master bedroom is excellent, but the third bedroom is accessed from it, making it suitable for kids or very close family only. The downstairs bedroom has no window, but 2 fans and leaving back door open at night allowed cooler air in. It all worked fine. A torch is essential to go to downstairs bathrooms during the night as stairs are steep. The cooking facilities are excellent and it was very useful to have a washing machine as we stayed for three weeks. We were able to park the car right outside the house on the street, but there really is no need for a car in this location. There is a train station and a bus station within walking distance if you want to go further afield.

Lovely house in a perfect location

I stayed in Casa Marisol with my husband for 2 weeks in June. This was our first time in Portugal & Tavira & Casa Marisol & it was a perfect introduction to Portugal.

Tavira is a lovely town which is easy to walk around and has lots of cafe's & restaurants on both sides of the river. Two restaurants which are a must are Aquasul (great for vegetarian options) and Kohinoor (Indian), both of these are a few mins walk from Casa Marisol.

If you want to visit the beach you have to use one of the ferries but they are incredibly easy to get, and go back & forth very regularly throughout the day. Visiting the beach is a must. It is a beautiful beach, and there are lots of places on the island to eat & drink, if you haven't brought your own picnic.

The castle is also worth walking around, and there are some nice little shops. If you can get up early enough there is a good food market with lots of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. There is also a big shopping centre which has a big supermarket.

It would be hard to find somewhere to stay in Tavira which is better located than Casa Marisol. We had hired a car but, for most of our stay it was parked outside the house because we didn't need it. Casa Marisol is a couple of mins walk to the Roman Bridge, a square full of restaurants and cafes, one of the ferries to the beach, a small but very well stocked supermarket, and the big shopping centre.

Casa Marisol is a lovely traditional house in a residential area. It is the best equipped house we have ever stayed in. The bath and beach towels and the bedsheets were changed during our two week stay, and the kitchen had everything you would could need. The whole property was very clean and well looked after. Wifi was provided for us on request & it was very easy to connect to. Every room in the house is furnished very comfortably so that it is easy to feel like you are at home.

We loved the house with it's quirky use of space. There is lots of outside space spread across 3 areas which means that there was somewhere to sit in the sun throughout the day, but it also meant that, when it got too warm, there was also somewhere to sit in the shade.

The property manager was a lovely gentleman who gave us some good tips about the town and was available when we needed him thoughout our stay.

We would recommend Tavira and Casa Marisol to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun. We will definitely visit again.

Lovely, quiet and well located house - Tavira

Fully endorse earlier five star reviews. House is ideally located close to a well stocked supermarket and to restaurants and only a five minute walk away from the heart of the town. House was very clean and clearly well maintained. Due to a short term issue with her local "agent", the owner, Vicki, had flown from the UK at short notice to meet and greet us, a necessity but, nevertheless, much appreciated by us and an indication of the concern she had for her customers. Vicki, it was a pleasure meeting you. We would readily recommend both the property and Tavira to our friends and relatives. I could list all of the restaurants we ate at - all of which served good quality food, at reasonable prices - but I limit myself to the two that stood out for us:- Rive Gauche and Tres Palmeiras, the first a wee bit more expensive than most others we ate at but well worth it, the second because of the quality of the grilled fish and the way it was served up, straight from the open grill. All-in-all we greatly enjoyed our 12 days in Tavira, helped by the quality of the accommodation.

Tavira & the house was spot on, the property is walking distance from some great restaurants, shops, the ferry to the beach & everything that Tavira has to offer, we chose this house because it appeared to have more outside space than other similar properties in the area, we weren't disappointed it is very much as advertised, the house was very clean , Cristina the housekeeper was lovely & nothing was too much trouble, we would definitely recommend the house to our family & friends

Knowing Tavira well and having visited many times in the past, this stay was one of our most memorable visits. The house was in a great location and was just minutes easy walking distance to all attractions. The house was lovely and clean, something that we always look for, furnished beautifully, well maintained and very well equipped, a real home from home. We especially enjoyed the open spaces and terraces which the property has to offer and which we have never had in a house of this location before. We enjoyed many a good BBQ and made the most of the sunshine which seemed to shine on at least one of the terraces all day. Although the property has a great central location, we were never disturbed with noise, having lovely sleepless nights in the comfortable beds. The owner provided a good, helpful and efficient service right from the first email enquiry and the contact was also vey friendly, willing and helpful with any questions that we had. We had a most enjoyable stay and the property was all that we expected from the description and more!! Would have no problem at all recommending the property to friends and family. Thank you for some great memories. Look forward to return visit in the future.

Tavira is one of the prettiest towns in the Algarve, built upon two sides of the river Gilao and spanned by a 7 arch Roman Bridge. Tavira retains many original architectural, historical and cultural features. Visit the castle ruins over looking one of the many churches or explore the winding cobbled streets. Enjoy the long hot summer nights at the open air European Film Festival, or enjoy the family street entertainment every evening in the square. Take a ride through the town on the romantic horse and carriage, take a sightseeing

journey on the tourist train.. or simply sit in one of the many bars and excellent restaurants and relax and soak in the atmosphere. Originally a fishing town, a visit to the daily fresh fish market is a must. Grab yourself a bargain at the monthly gypsy market. For the young and the not so young, but young at heart dance the night away at the local disco! All close by.. A wonderful choice of beaches with sand that seems to go on forever, Ilha de Tavira being only a short ferry ride away. Even in high season you will find a quiet stretch..walk a little further to an area reserved for naturalists. There are 4 good golf courses nearby, Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta da Cima and Colina Verde. The more famous courses at Vilamoura and Monte Rei are all a 30 minute drive away. The location of the house is so central that a car is not necessary, however for those wishing to explore the Algarve, there is a good local bus, train and taxi service nearby. Everything that you could wish for on the doorstep to make this a truly unique holiday destination

The property is equipped with a wood burning stove in the living room. Wood can be ordered and purchased from the property manager. Radiators are available for hire for the cooler winter months at an additional cost.

Security deposit of £150.00/€200.00 payable in cash upon arrival and refunded on day of departure after the necessary inspections.

When the Owner is not available the property is managed by a local couple who are very knowledgeable on the surrounding areas, places to visit, restaurants to eat at, things to do etc. The property is equipped with an informative welcome brochure with many previous guests recommendations on places to visit.. including some good finds on where to eat, friendliest cafes, good value for money, most amazing beaches etc..

In High Season we like to keep our bookings Saturday to Saturday wherever possible. However we are flexible, enquire with the Owner.
