Charming house with walled garden and pool in La Rochelle

4 bedroom detached house with pool; easy access to town centre and beach

This is a spacious house of character (former échoppe renovated and extended in 2000). It is in a quiet residential area, only 20 minutes pleasant walk to the historic old port of La Rochelle with its excellent restaurants and beautiful views over the harbour. It is also 10 to 15 minutes by bike (25 minutes on foot) to the nearest sandy town beach )Plage de la Concurrence). An enclosed walled and secluded garden of trees and shrubs runs two sides of the house facing south and west. There is a small swimming pool with jet stream to the front of the house, which for small children can be gated off from the lawn and terrace. The terrace has a built-in barbecue next to a large garden table with 8 matching chairs; it also has an awning to allow guests to enjoy shade or sunshine. There are climbing roses and numerous colourful shrubs.

Inside the living accommodation downstairs is mostly open plan. There is a bright and spacious living room with three sofas (one is a sofa bed), and a television. Through an archway you reach a dining area and beyond a kitchen with breakfast bar, fridge/freezer, hob, small oven and a dishwasher. The property has two large double bedrooms downstairs each with a double bed, and two more upstairs, one with a double bed, the other with a double bed and a single bed. There are two bathrooms, one downstairs with bath and separate shower; the second upstairs with shower. Linen is available for hire at a small extra cost. There is an attached garage with washing machine and second fridge/freezer, and currently two adult-sized bicycles which can be used by careful guests (at their own risk.) Well-behaved pets are welcome and there is a cat flap, but please check with the owners before bringing an animal to the property.

About the Owner

This was our home for several years until 2012 and our youngest two children went to French schools there. As I am a modern languages teacher, I worked teaching English at the university and in local primary schools around La Rochelle. We are therefore very fond of Villa Dany and return there each August and various moments of the year when it is empty. La Rochelle is a beautiful town with a fantastic lifestyle. We left (only very reluctantly) so that our son could get some British academic qualifications and hope to go back and live there again once he has finished sixth form college.

Perfect holiday property in a quiet location

I can only reinforce the complimentary reviews already posted for this delightful house. It is spacious yet well set-out, with pool, bbq, patio, wifi, etc. Everything about it says 'welcome', with good on-site support from Denise. The customer service was above and beyond. The house is in a quiet quarter within easy reach of the beautiful town and lively port and I can only highly recommend it whether you be a family, with children of any age, or group of friends looking for comfortable accommodation. Loved it.

Maison très fonctionelle, spacieuse et agréable, le centre ville est à 15minutes de marche, ...c'était parfait. Je recommande cette location d'un très bon rapport qualité prix et dont la gérante sur place est très aimable et arrangeante ;)

Séjour tres sympathique, nous avons été agréablement surpris, car la maison est beaucoup plus spacieuse que les photos peuvent faire paraitre.

Maison excellente pour un bon séjour, entre amis ou en famille. Tout les ingrédients était présent, soleil, piscine, belle terrasse, chambre spacieuse, accueille conviviale et présent pour nous renseigner , et a proximité de la ville. Une maison grande, équipé, et a prix abordable.

Nous sommes partie satisfait.

Zentral gelegenes Ferienhaus in La Rochelle

Wir haben die Ferien in diesem zentral in La Rochelle gelegenen Ferienhaus sehr genossen. W-lan im ganzen Haus und einen kleinen Pool haben das Bild abgerundet. Die Einrichtung war zweckmässig, die Doppelbetten mit 140cm Breite etwas klein für 2 Erwachsene.

Nous avons passé un agréable séjour dans cette maison avec ses petits plus (piscine, barbecue, wifi...) que nous avons profité. Le quartier est calme et est situé à quelques centaines de metres d'acces aux routes principales (Ile de Ré, Bordeaux...). Supermarché juste à coté, Centre Ville à moins de 5 minutes de la maison.

Il ne manquait rien dans la maison qui pouvait nous être désagréable, il nous a rien manqué.

Rapport qualité/prix superbe. 4 chambres comme nous souhaitons.

Je recommande vivement cette maison.

"Maison très charmante, bien agencée, au calme, spacieuse. On se sent vraiment "chez soi".

Juste petit bémol sur la piscine vraiment trop petite et mal située (à l''avant de la maison), mais on n''est pas loin de la mer, alors ...

Sinon, plusieurs vélos sont disponibles sur place, c''est bien agréable !

Je recommande vivement cette maison pour une famille ou un groupe d''amis ..."

It's a big house with a pool, extremely conveniently located within easy walking distance of the town centre. With its garden on two sides of the house there is always shade to be found, but also plenty of space for full sun.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : at 5 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : at 2 Kilometres Car: recommended

Easily accessible from La Rochelle airport (10 minutes by car or taxi) and only a few minutes drive from La Rochelle's ring road, yet very quiet and peaceful. By bicycle, 15 minutes to the Old Port, 45 minutes (mostly on cycle paths)to the Ile de Ré; 20 minutes walk to the central bus station. There is no problem finding parking places in the street.

Less than 20 minutes walk to the town centre with its arcaded streets, indoor market and museums. Bikes available in garage for guests' use, but at own risk. Only 5 minutes cycle ride to the indoor swimming baths and the park, which extends all the way to the beach. Well behaved pets are welcome.

As we have a big family, this is a superb house for us because of its enormous living room which can comfortably fit a lot of people. With its 2000 extension, it is a tasteful blend of old and modern; a very cheerful house with a friendly, relaxed feel.
