Trompe l’Oeil is situated 100 meters from the large tree-lined village square with its restaurants and bars and a short walk from the romantic Canal du Midi. Capestang is wonderfully situated between the stunning scenery of the Haut Languedoc Natural Park and the wide sandy Mediterranean beaches. Our house is perfect as a base for families or for a group of friends wishing to explore the historic Languedoc, which is also the largest wine growing area in the world! In the village you can enjoy wine tasting or rent a bike or a boat to explore the region at your leisure.

Within easy reach there are Cathar castles, stunning chateaux, glorious beaches, beautiful mountains and lots of French markets – as well, of course, chic boutiques in nearby Beziers and Narbonne.

Ground floor: fully equipped kitchen and dining area leading to the living room with satellite TV, video. DVD and CD player. 1st floor: bright double bedroom with mezzanine for additional storage, twin bedroom, shower room and toilet. 2nd floor: twin bedroom with en-suite. Cot & highchair available.

Great location for exploring this French region

The Hall family have just spent a very enjoyable week in Trompe l'Oeil, Capestang. The owners, Joan and Barry, were excellent hosts and made us feel really welcome. We were particularly grateful to them on the first day of our holiday when our car wouldn't start. They took us down to local mechanic and our car was promptly fitted with a new battery.

The house was very spacious for the 4 of us and would easily accommodate 6. It was fitted with all mod cons, clean and very comfortable, while retaining old French charm. It's location in the the heart of Capestang meant that everything was within easy walking/staggering distance! Cafes/restaurants, local market and wonderful patisseries just around the corner in this picturesque/historic village.

Highlights of the week included; cycling along the Canal Du Midi, canoeing at Roquebrun and eating out at La Table du Vigneron, Capestang and Vinauberge, Poilhes (next village on from Capestang).

Home from home

Family of 4 - children aged 14 and 12 - our 2nd stay in Trompe L'Oeil in 2 years - it's such a great base to explore the Languedoc and an excellent apartment. And such good value! Joan and Barry are superb hosts who made us extremely welcome. If you're looking for a comfortable and clean place to stay in the region, in a small but charming town, then this is definitely worth considering.

Capestang is well located for relatively quick access to the coast (about half an hour), the towns of Beziers and Narbonne, plus trips further afield such as Spain to the south or Montpellier to the east.

We certainly hope and intend to return to Trompe L'Oeil again within the next couple of years.

MY HIDEAWAY, THANK YOU ALL

Joan & Barry, the owners of this property, are two of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Nothing is too much trouble & they go that extra mile to make sure you have everything you need & that you are very well looked after.

The property itself, is in such an ideal location & is central to the many amenities, that surprisingly, a village of this size has too offer.

There are 2 supermarket, banks, bars, restaurants, bakers, butchers, hairdressers, pharmacy, opticians ect. The house is also 2 minutes from the local bus to Beziers & from there you can pretty much get anywhere you want to go without the aid of a car. The Canal Du Midi is a 5 minute walk, if that. It's perfect.

The property has everything for a long or short stay, of which I have now done both. It has such a lovely atmosphere, it's a special place. You can have a relaxing or an action packed holiday, the choice is entirely yours.

I was travelling on my own for the very first time. I don't drive, my French is very poor & had no idea what to expect, in all honesty I was terrified. I would now live there in a heart beat, as many visitors to the area end up doing.

The expat community & the locals are so lovely & so helpful. They even put up with my very poor attempts at French.

I have stayed in summer & winter now & had an amazing time each stay.

Summer 2012

Family with 4 children had fantastic holiday in South of France. Joan and Barry could not have been more accommodating, friendly or helpful. Plenty to see and do locally , made even better with 2 weeks of clear blue skies, then relaxing in Capestang or at the Canal du Midi in the evening. Easy drive from Toulouse, and there are nearer airports

great!!!

We wanted to see the area with a view to moving to the area in the future. The owners Joan and Barry are a mine of information as are their friends and they have been brilliant hosts. The house has no fixed heating and Joan was worried we would be cold so provided lots of plug in and bottle gas heating considering the weather had plummetted and was the coldest it had been for years. Once the heating was on we were fine and the weather was not a huge problem. It even warmed up as the week wore on. We spent our days researching the area and gained huge amounts of information and are now all geared up for getting our place sold and moving over there full time. We would happily recommend this house to anyone wanting a break in sunnier climes.

The holiday was great. We have had a wonderful time in Capestang. The most beautiful thing for my children was the wonderful swimming pool. We do not have any improvement, because everything was o.k.

Capestang is a working wine village with a population of a little over 3,000; it is always lively and worth visiting at all times of the year. It offers a good selection of restaurants and bars, supermarkets, banks, doctors, a laundrette, etc.. This area of France also boasts the sunniest weather in the whole of the country.

Within approximately 30 minutes there is available: golf, horse-riding, kayaking, fishing, the beautiful coast and majestic mountains - and the lovely towns of Narbonne and Beziers with their wide range of shops. The Spanish border is within 90 minutes and the ski slopes of the Pyrenees within a 2 hours drive.

Capestang is approximately 30 minutes from Beziers airport, 60 minutes from Carcassonne, Montpellier and Perpignan, a little more from Nimes and 2 hours from Toulouse and Girona (Spain). Our guests tell us that the location is perfect for a memorable vacation, whatever time of year. We live here and think so too.
