We have never stayed with nicer or more friendly hosts than Rosa and Jose and their apartment reflected that generosity. Besides the water, wine, bread and delicious local cheese they left for us, the cupboards were stocked with all the basics (oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, spices. Even other useful things such as flour, baking powder, rice and pasta.) Plenty of pots, pans, glasses and cutlery, but also an electric blender, whisk and juicer. Whatever we needed seemed to be in one of their well-stocked cabinets.
There was an abundance of towels and essentials in the bathroom, the bedroom was quiet and the bed was really comfy.
The apartment was, as described, only a few yards from the ocean, with a balcony overlooking the peaceful esplanade where we sat out to catch the morning sun on the days when the weather allowed us. Unfortunately, we did have some dreadful wet and windy weather during the week, but there was a really comfy couch, good wi-fi and lots of books, games and films to keep us entertained. On good days we enjoyed walking along the esplanade and through the village, and also the well maintained and signed stone path along the coast.
A car would be useful but not necessary, although Puertito de Guimar is a relatively untouristy village it has lots of pleasant bars and cafes and two small supermarkets to supply all our needs. There is a bus stop five minutes from the apartment with hourly buses to Santa Cruz.
As previously mentioned, we can't thank Rosa and Jose enough for their help and kindnesses, the lifts and the wonderful meal we shared and will definitely see them again in the not too distant future.
