About the Owner

We are a family of five living in Bristol and bought Pollywinky when the children were only 6, 4 and 0. James publishes stationery and Anna teaches environmental education to school children. We love North Cornwall and have got to know it well over the years. We all enjoy surfing, being on the beach, walking, riding and cycling when we are down at Pollywinky and visit the Port William pub at least once during our visit to enjoy the view of the waves and surfers, the coffee and food!

Excellent Place

  • 5 of 5

We've been coming here every year for six years now. Lovely little cottage in a quiet and scenic location. The living room is comfy and has games and DVDs. The kitchen is well-stocked and they leave fresh bread and milk in there. The beds are cosy and the main room has a great view over the valley. Only a short walk in one direction to Trebarwith Strand or one of the two excellent pubs nearby.

It did not disappoint 😀

  • 5 of 5

We were expecting some changes, especially as our last stay was 40 years ago!! But there were enough familiar original features to remind us of some lovely memories. My family and I took a wonderful trip down memory lane to stay in the charming Pollywinky Cottage, the venue for several regular adventures for us in the 1970's. This little cottage has lost none of its magic and is still the perfect base for pirating or pixie hunting adventures. Thankyou James for being so accommodating and helping to remind us how special North Cornwall is. I was informed it was the ' best 50th birthday present ever!!'

We made wonderful memories at this perfect place!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect place, located near Port Issac and Tintagel and not far from St Ives. Clean, roomy and so cozy! We arrived to fresh milk, tea and scones. I would highly recommend this house.

The cottage is lovely and very well equipped

  • 4 of 5

Although Treknow has no shops we liked being in a 'real' Cornish vilage. The cottage is lovely and the room sizes are good. We were 6 adults with 8 month old twins and we found everything we needed in the cottage - especially the kitchen which is very well equippped. However having only one bathroom and no separate loo meant we had to be very organised with showers and using the toilet! If only 4 people were staying there one obviously would not have the same problem. The shower was very good and always hot despite the number of people using it.

Like many previous reviewers we did find the parking( we had 3 cars between us) very awkward. Even the space outside the cottage can be difficult to manoeuvre in and out of as people park in the layby opposite. My son used the car park space outside the cottage so he could load the twins in and out and we had to park up the road where we could find a space. This did make it difficult at times as we had to cart things up and down the road especially on the day we moved out.

We loved the location. The walk down to Trebarwith Sands is lovely and also being so close to the coastal path. We walked to Tintangel and found the cottage a good base to visit Boscastle, Polzeath and Nectan's Waterfall.

We had mixed weather but it was warm so we had no need to use the log burner but did put on the heating as the cottage did feel quite damp especially in the kitchen and food items put in the cupboard got damp.

The settees are very 'sticky'! We found that when we sat down in them our clothes stuck and we had to peel ourselves off! We ended up putting the rugs/ throws on them which was much better but they stuck to the leather/plastic? when we took them off. The two double beds were very comfy but one of the single beds in the smaller room was uncomfy - one of the slats is broken and the mattress dips in the centre. This is probably never a problem as children presumably sleep in that room whereas in our instance it was our grown up daughter and son- in- law!

We found the listing description very accurate, the property is well maintained and feels like a family home. It was clean and well maintained and the cleaner on the day of our departure was very punctual but kindly gave us an extra 30 minutes to vacate the property. The owners provided excellent service and details for us. We all ate at The Port William Inn one evening - lovely position with beautiful views. However not a great choice if you are vegetarian.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. We will be replacing the leather sofas and mattresses in the back bedroom this winter as we agree that they have seen better days. We only have enough space for one large car. Two small cars can fit in the space but at a bit of a push. I'm glad you had a good time.

Excellent property, ideal quiet location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Pollywinky (first in Summer 2012) and it's just as we remember. The house is well situated in a quiet location - only 10 minutes walk from Trebarwith Strand (the beach) and also a very nice pub (Port William). Pollywinky is well equipped with everything you might need for a week or two stay.

I'm sure we'll return again...

Perfect, restful holiday - a home from home

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was comfortable, welcoming and very well equipped. We parked the car and didn't drive for the whole week. The garden is a morning suntrap, perfect for lazy mornings sitting, reading and listening to the bees in the fuschia bush. The walk down to Trebarwith Strand was easy and we recommend the crab sandwiches at the Port William. The cliff walk to Tintagel was delightful and only takes about half an hour without stops. However, there are many points where you should just stop and take in the amazing views. Take the time to stand and stare and spot the local wildlife. In the town, the food in Charlie's Deli's is great and the staff are charming. However, people were friendly in all the places we went into. A perfect, restful holiday. We recommend Pollywinky Cottage, obviously much loved and it felt like a home from home.

Location

From the Owner

Pollywinky is a great place to get a way from it all. It is located in a sweet Cornish lane with other houses on either side overlooking several fields where children can play, on the edge of the village. It is an attractive cottage with a pretty garden and back yard. It is a ten minute walk to the local beach where there is a popular pub and cafe, and is only minutes from the South West Costal Path for walking or running. We can access plenty of beaches for swimming, surfing and rock-pooling from here as well as get to places of interest. It ticked all the boxes for us.
