About this property

A 4* beautifully restored home with its own heated pool, 5 minutes from the sea

Just outside the pretty coastal village of Gouville-sur-Mer, La Brocanterie is a beautifully restored and modernised stone-built house. Open & light, it is decorated in a clean rustic style combining antiques and brocante and decorative objects , to create a welcoming house, perfect to relax and unwind in, or to come back to, at the end of a day's sightseeing.
There is ample space for 2 families or a multi generational family party to enjoy their holiday without getting on top of one another.

The huge sitting room opens onto the courtyard and is ultra comfy, with 4 large sofas, armchairs, TV, DVD, hi-fi (a collection of vinyl...) and a log burner for chilly evenings.
The galleried dining room with it's massive dining table by the fireplace, is great place if you're having a really special dinner, unless, of course you prefer to eat outside between the olive trees.
The enormous kitchen (56m2),
overlooks the pool, is fully equipped for the most enthusiastic cooks, and provides yet more space to eat or relax. The kitchen-conservatory glass doors fold back for great inside-outside flow to the deck and 10m x 4.5m heated pool. The pool has a level floor at approx 1.40m, ideal for playing or swimming.
There is a games room with lots of toys & games for children of all ages, (adults too), as well as table football and an electronic keyboard.
If you dig deep you might even unearth a variety of vintage computer games consoles.
WIFI is provided.

We have a travel cot, highchair, potty, changing mat and baby bath. There are also a selection of bikes for your trips to pick up the morning croissants or further afield.

The 4 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms are spread over 3 floors.
There are two master suites: One on the ground floor, (with no steps) and level access to an ensuite bathroom (80 x 120 shower)
The second master suite is on the first floor. There are two further bedrooms on the 2nd floor: One with 3 single beds, the other with a single bed and a superkingsize bed, or three single beds. (we will discuss your preferences prior to your arrival).
All rooms are made up ready to use: just unpack your bags, and you're ready to go!

The nearest flat sandy beach is just over 5 minutes' drive away, though there are lots of wonderful beaches nearby to discover. Even closer, it's a bike ride to the village for the boulangerie, supermarket & weekly market. (twice weekly in high season)

GOUVILLE SUR MER

BEACH & VILLAGE:
Gouville sur Mer beach is just over a five minute drive from the house.
it has lots of sand and a very relaxed vibe.
There is Les Dunes a café / restaurant and bar on beach front, as well as a pop up Tapas and Burger bar the BOA in a container.
Gouville beach is huge, clean, sandy and uncrowded.
In summer, activities include sand yachting and kite surfing as well as horse riding.
Along this coast there are miles and miles of empty sandy beaches to explore. There's bound to be one perfect for you!
The thriving village of Gouville sur Mer has a twice weekly market in summer as well as a small supermarket, the produce is excellent, though in high season the prices can be a bit steep. We have a good range of local commerçants, with two boulangeries to choose from for your fresh baguettes and croissants. There is also a butcher, Recommended for Sunday roasts on the spit ( to order, ask me!) two banks, two hairdressers, (and beauty treatments) , a pharmacy and doctors surgery, a bar tabac, a post office, an exhibition centre and a tourist office. There are 2 restaurants in the village and many more within 10 minutes drive including 'Le Mascaret', a restaurant gastronomique and 'La Cale' (much loved by our guests!) , a seafood beach bar/restaurant, right on the beach.

Everyone who comes to this part of the world knows of the hugely significant history of the area. You could easily spend all holiday just visiting sites and museums related to the second World War, but then there's the Bayeux tapestry, and Mont Saint Michel, the Cite de la Mer at Cherbourg, Dinard, Dinan, St Malo.... The only problem is deciding how to fit it all in!

FAMILY ACTIVITIES:
There's a selection of old bikes at the house, and within 15 mins you can also find horse riding, (including on the beach) , golf, tennis, sailing, sand yachting, kite surfing, kayaking, farm visits, summer musical events, horse trotting-racing, yoga on the beach, petanque, golf, skim boarding(lessons), visits to the oyster/mussel beds in a horse drawn carriage (limited spaces and timing), and loads more.

Spread your wings a little and 20-30minutes or so away you'll find - karting, (on a real track.. Great fun!), forest adventure parks (walkways in trees, zip lines ), bowling, paintball, laser game etc.
There is also a dinosaur themed indoor playground nearby, aimed at younger children and good if the weather isnt!

Further inland is the Parc Régional des Marais du Cotentin, a fascinating regional park with a rich bird life, as well as houses made of clay and straw, to explore on foot or by boat. There's also a miniature railway, you can ride on, and countless D-day museums and Historic visits to be made.

Further afield - When you go to Mont Saint Michel, think about stopping at Alligator Bay for the children .. Not just alligators, but also Giant tortoises and more.
La Cité de la Mer at Cherbourg, is a great day out with large a Aquarium, a nuclear submarine to visit and a collection of bathyscapes.
In the other direction Granville is a lovely vibrant port to visit for pottering, shopping or eating. It also has a small salt water aquarium, and a deliciously kitsch shell museum.
Festyland attraction park at Carpiquet and the zoo at Champrepus, are also excellent days out, especially for young families.

NORMANDY HIGHLIGHTS: We are well placed for cultural outings with sights all around us.

Chateau de Pirou (15 mins), Chateau de Gratot (20 mins), Abbaye Cérisy-la-Fôret, (50 mins east), The town of Bayeux and its Tapestry (1hr north-east), spectacular Mont St Michel ( 1hr 15 south) .

Drivers can follow themed and signposted routes. Museum info, more leaflets and booklets in our House Book.

If you still have some time left, don't miss a day in Brittany. south of us and well worth a day's exploration, e.g. Dinan and the picturesque walled town of Saint Malo.

Fantastic stay!
Just returned from an excellent weeks stay at this beautiful house, the property is great with everything you need for a fantastic holiday. The pool area through to open plan kitchen/dining area make for a great social setting where the kids can be playing the pool whilst you enjoy a drink on the terrace. The kitchen is super well equipped with everything you could ever need. Elsewhere the house is incredibly spacious, thoughtfully decorated, with plenty of entertainment for children, as well as quiet areas to just relax and read a book. The local area provides a great base for fabulous quiet (even in August) beaches, fascinating history, great food and local artisan markets. James was a great host, on hand to help if needed and provide local recommendations. We’d love to visit again!

Stunning and restful home!
Our family of six stayed at La Brocanterie over the New Year's holiday. After a long day of driving, it was unbelievably wonderful to arrive at the house and find owner Debbie there with the house all lit up, a fire in the cosy wood stove, music playing, essential grocery items stocked, and a very nice basket of Normandy goodies. What a welcome! We especially enjoyed the common areas in this home-- the layout of the living spaces is such that you can have great family time, but still not feel like you are all on top of each other. My younger kids enjoyed the game room, while the rest of us spent a good bit of time reading and relaxing in the beautifully furnished and superbly comfortable lounge. We prepared several meals in the house and found everything we needed in the well-equipped kitchen (huge bonus points for the Nespresso machine!). The local area was charming. We frequented the local boulangerie, and had several great meals out-- including New Year's lunch at a Michelin-starred restaurant minutes away from the house. I can only imagine how lovely the beach and, indeed, the house itself with its outdoor spaces and swimming pool, must be in summer. We hope to return to find out! We have stayed in many homes in many countries over the years, and this was the family favorite! Thank you for a wonderful holiday...

Amazing, great location, kitted out for families
On seeing the photos for the property on the owners' website we thought the house and pool looked amazing. It was every bit as good as it looked. The house is well equipped with everything that you would need from days at the beach, to keeping children entertained, to cooking and baking in the impressive kitchen. The owners are very welcoming, knowledgeable about the local area, and easy to contact if needed. The house and pool were clean, well maintained, excellently furnished and a joy to visit. We visited at the tail end of the Summer season, so not all local restaurants and attractions were open every day, but Debbie kindly advised us on what would be open and when and which local markets were running. We spent the majority of our time locally at the seaside towns and villages within a short drive are all beautiful and have fantastic sandy beaches. We did drive for a little under an hour to Omaha beach for D day museums and Bayeux, which was great for a day out. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives and hope to return to La Brocanterie sometime in the near future. We have stayed at a few holiday rentals in France and this is the best by far.
