Perfect canal side location

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful Gite in an outstanding and quiet location on the canal du midi, great view to wake up to in the morning and also to enjoy the front terrace area with a glass of wine in the evening . With options for al fresco dining at both the front and rear of the property, and restaurants close by this makes for a very convenient location without the need to drive far.The accommodation is well thought out, impeccably clean with quality crockery, cutlery and glassware (often overlooked in rental accommodation). The Gite is very spacious and has all the modern conveniences in the kitchen that you would want for home cooking if you choose to prepare your own meals, a bonus was the surprise delivery of freshly laid hens eggs from the owners hens next door and made breakfast even more of a delight. I would certainly not hesitate to return to this beautiful Gite and superb canal side location. Nicole and Michel the owners live next door which was a great bonus as they have taken great care with their Gite to ensure a comfortable stay, which is not always the case in properties that are managed remotely. Parking was a bonus too, available adjacent to the property.

A little gem in the South of France

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week here at the end of August, the place is just perfect for relaxing and enjoying the best of everything french, the local restaurants and watching the artists paint the local scernery. Nicole and Michel were perfect hosts, never interfering but we knew they were there if we needed them - and the eggs and tomatoes which they brought round to us were the best we have ever tasted. You will not be disappointed with your stay in Le Somail, and we guarantee that it really is as beautiful as it looks in the picture.

A superb property - Don't overlook it.

  • 5 of 5

This property is a real gem. Its interior photographs do not give a fair reflection of the size of the accommodation, which was much larger than we had expected. Its sitting room - and which becomes bedroom three if required - is smaller than a large family may find ideal, but for the two of us it was perfect. That said, and if needed, the open plan kitchen/dining room is very spacious, as is the outside seating area. For most people, the most outstanding feature of the property is likely to be its canal side location with little/no passing traffic and countryside behind and around, and yet it is also just 200 yards or so from the village centre. But for us, it was the standard of modernisation of the property, together with the care the owners have taken in furnishing and fitting it out, that we were so impressed with. In addition, they live next door and made truly caring hosts. We loved our time here and found it to be faultless.

Wonderful house in a nice location

  • 5 of 5

This gite is part of a renovated vineyard where you have your own terrific garden etc. The house is really clean and nice and has lots of amenties for you to use, the grill and beach umbrella were especially appreciated by us.

The village of Le Somail is really cozy with the river flowing right through it. There are some restaurants/bars in the village and an amazing book store, but other than that it is pretty quiet. For swimming there are some rivers and lakes fairly close (by car) and the mediterranean is about 45 mins away. The hosts Michel and Nicole are very friendly and apart from offering advice on restaurants and excursions they treated us to some eggs from their own chicken coop! Best scrambled eggs we've ever had!

We stayed for a week and drove around alot, the medieval city of Carcassonne is close by and worth a visit among other things. Definitely satisfied with our stay, but if you want to go down to the mediterranean every day the trip will probably get a bit tedious. Take the chance to explore the country side while you're there.

Lovely gite

  • 5 of 5

We loved this gite. It was spacious, spotlessly clean and well-equipped. The front and back gardens and tables gave us plenty of options for sun and shade.

Nicole and Michel were very welcoming and helpful - nothing was too much for them in making our stay most enjoyable.

The location is ideal - on the canal bank, but with little foot or car traffic past us. Very peaceful, but within a short walk of restaurants and baker.

A minor point was the limited storage space for food in the kitchen, but this did not detract from our enjoyment and we would love to return to this gite.
