A waterfront penthouse apartment at the end of the ocean front well lit and paved promenade of Caniço de Baixo about 50 metres from Reis Magos Beach. Caniço de Baixo is on the sunny southern coast overlooking the ocean. It is a beautiful sea level coastal tourist resort, with several very good local restaurants, resort hotels and bars. The apartment is within walking distance and easy access to some of the nicest lavada walks in Madeira and a short distance from two golf courses. It is an ideal location for those who want a resort holiday away from the busy city of Funchal.

Surrounded by hotels with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and full leisure centres and next to the limpid waters of the Atlantic, Caniço de Baixo offers three excellent diving schools within walking distance with perfect conditions for diving. The crystal clear water of Reis Magos Beach is ‘Blue Flag’ approved.

Hiking & Walking : Canico de Baixo is a good location from where one can hike and walk the islands amazing levada irrigation system spanning 2,500 kilometres, which meander round the mountains.

The beautiful verdant island of Madeira (wood) is Portugal's 'Jewel in the Atlantic' and is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Europe. It has a spectacular & varied landscape of breathtaking proportions. Its wonderful luxuriant flowers & plants bloom all the year round.

The landscape is covered in a green mantle of rich subtropical foliage. The variety and profusion of flowers makes the island a permanent floating flower show. I bought a property in Madeira in 1999 to live in when I retire, but decided to let it until I move there. Because I enjoy renting, I decided I would like to continue renting when I move, so bought this property by the sea shore to have as a rental property and an interest during my retirement.

What makes this apartment unique

Penthouse right by the sea shore. Veranda to walk around and follow the sun and shade throughout the day. Conservatory to sit in at night and listen to the water lap on the sea shore. A piece of heaven.

Local restaurants are excellent, with a lovely friendly atmosphere. Three of the local hotels each offer indoor [heated in winter], & outdoor swimming pools. All have a Jacuzzi, sauna & gymnasium. One also has a health and beauty centre, massages, beauty salon, spa treatments. They each offer a Happy hour 18.30 to 20.00 with nightly entertainment – outside guests are made most welcome. The Apartment is serviced by two lifts Weekly maid service The kitchen is equipped with everything one should need. TV, Internet & radio provided. Local stations, SKY News & Sport & BBC Prime only. Linen and towels are also provided, but beach towels should be taken for sunbathing. The apartment is on the 13th Floor in a residential complex. As a 2-bedroom apartment, it offers excellent spacious accommodation in a quiet well maintained complex with breathtaking sea views. It is such a pleasure to watch & hear the sea lapping on the seashore facilitating a perfect peaceful holiday

Wonderful apartment with fantastic views

The apartment is very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. It is ideally situated for bus trips into Funchal and to other parts of Madeira. We would definitely recommend it!

a "run down" Apartment with a beautiful view

Kitchen:

had to re attach faucet in Kitchen on several occasions

several doors on Kitchen Cabinets are out of alignment and difficult to operate,

in one of the doors (above kitchen exhaust fan) hinges were detached. Door was just set

in place.

Bathroom:

a constant sewer smell. Window had to stay open 24/7 because of that.

a set of Bath Towels totally worn out. Same Towel set was washed once a week by

a cleaning person. Couldn't use towels that day because they didn't dry.

Same with Bath Matte

Faucet on sink needs to be replaced because corrosion has damaged it's

functionality.

Drain in Shower is extremely slow almost like it is plugged somehow ?

Standing in a filled shower tub when having a shower is normal.

Bedroom:

Pillows like sand sacs - very uncomfortable

Very hard mattresses - you can feel the coils and have to turn around all the time because

it is very uncomfortable to sleep in one position

Cabinet Doors can't be opened fully because the doors are restricted by the bed.

Only one person at a time can take clothing out of the cabinet.

The other person has to wait until the doors are closed to pass the closet.

Walls in the Bedroom and also in other rooms need a renovation

TV:

We contacted the owner on two occasions about accessing her SAT TV.

Never received any response. Couldn't even watch the news on TV.

Had to rely on our iPad.

Very noisy at night. Traffic, barking dogs everywhere, at times very noisy neighbours

Nice pictures to advertise this place but we do not recommend staying there.

Owner's Response: I am surprised the apartment is described as "run down". Have taken Hans N’s comments on board & will address them as necessary. The kitchen, lounge/dining area & TV room/2nd bedroom were completely refurbished December 2016. A completely new kitchen was installed & the wardrobe doors were replaced, all walls and ceilings were repainted, including the inside of wardrobes. The large but very shallow shower was installed August 2015. Because it is very shallow it does not hold much water, while it is slow to drain, it does not fill up/overflow. The washbasin tap is tarnished, but it is not unusable. The plumber already has the replacement tap ready to install. I have never found a smell in the bathroom, but will check this in case it is a recent problem. Towels are less than two years old & I have plenty of them, so my housekeeper Maria would/should not have left the bathroom without towels, Maria’s usual routine is to replace the towels immediately she has cleaned the bathroom, while the others are being washed & dried. The bedroom needs to be painted, postponed from October, now scheduled for June, when a conservatory will be added & the layout changed, to give easier access to the wardrobe. Unfortunately whether pillows & mattresses are good or bad is very subjective. Pillows were replaced in June 2017 so are firm & the mattress is orthopaedic because most people prefer that. I will inspect it within the next 2 - 3 weeks when in Madeira. I did not receive any contact from Hans N during his 28 day stay. I don’t live in Madeira so in my correspondence with my clients I indicate “While in the apartment, if there is a problem, please contact Suzy, [my local agent] who will pass the information to me” Susy says she did not receive any contact either and that he did not make any complaint to her when she drove him to the airport on Wednesday 10th January. I am surprised the apartment was considered to be very noisy. My immediate neighbour is a single professional gentleman who works in Funchal. His apartment is a duplex, so his living area is one floor down. Only the bedrooms are on the same floor as my apartment. His bedrooms are at the far side of the second bedroom/TV room. The stairs and lifts are in the middle of the building, encased on all sides by concrete walls, so the other two apartments on my floor are at the other side of the building, not attached to mine. I am really sorry Hans N does not recommend others staying in the apartment.

Lovely penthouse apartment

We spent five nights in this lovely penthouse apartment. The views from the terrace were exceptional which was our main reason for staying here. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped in a good location with many restaurants nearby. Connie was extremely helpful in the booking process and providing information and directions to the apartment in our hired car. We found the apartment easily. We used the five days to take two boat trips, visit the botanical gardens and Funchal and to walk and explore this beautiful island. We left reluctantly after five days to explore the north of the island. The only thing that would have made it perfect was the weather which was very mixed with some windy cooler days but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Great appartment

The apartment is in a wonderful location with fantastic views over the sea to some islands . The apartment was immaculate with everything one could wish for to make a comfortable stay. Very many thanks to Connie for helping us when our original accommodation had to be cancelled at short notice (through nobody's fault). There are several excellent restaurants next to the apartment block. There is an excellent bus service to Funchal ,though it is advisable to anybody using the island,s bus service to do some research before arriving, as this saves time. The buses are reliable and cheap and cover most of the island.

Fantastic Holiday Location

Having been to Madeira twice in recent years this trip was everything we wanted. The apartment was in an outstanding location with wonderful views of the coast and the surrounding hills and terraced gardens. The apartment was spotlessly clean and contained all the equipment we needed for our 'at-home' evenings and for sleeping. Lots to do in and around the area with easy access to local buses to Canico and Funchal for just over €2 each one way. Lots of very good restaurants in the immediate area and would recommend the 'Inn and Art' and its Atlantic View terrace. In Funchal we would whole heartedly recommend Mozart's restaurant (just by the cable car base station) and were thoroughly entertained by Afonso Rodrigues (who appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2014) and was an absolute delight. The food here was out-of-this-world and at a very reasonable price of €39 per person inclusive of food and drinks. If you want to go you had better book in advance!

In Canico we had a sumptuous meal at La Terraca restaurant which is near the main taxi-stands. The portions are very generous and if you contact Sandra she will arrange for you to be picked up from the apartment AND taken back at no extra cost over the meal price! Brilliant!

Overall, a splendid two weeks of very nce weather, friendly people, great food, fantastic sunsets - and a diet required when we got home!

Thanks to Susy for our transport to and from the airport - it does make arrival and departure so much easier.

Fantastic Penthouse Apartment

The apartment occupies a corner on the top floor of the apartment so you can either follow the sun or if it gets too hot, follow the shade. The views over the sea and harbour are spectacular. The apartment is well furnished - all facilities provided for with a fully kitted out kitchen and lounge. Always important to me is a comfortable bed - not disappointed at all!

What we liked about the location of the apartment was the proximity to the promenade with local bars and restaurants. We stayed for just a week and found a different restaurant each night and the quality was very good. The location is quiet and well placed for bus connections to tour the island. Would certainly recommend it

Penthouse beach front apartment situated at the end of the promenade in the quiet, residential, seaside resort of Caniço de Baixo, 50 m from the “Blue Flag” Reis Magos Beach. Reis Magos Beach has a breakwater, which makes swimming very safe.

Caniço de Baixo is a beautiful coastal tourist zone with a Lido & three diving schools. It also has a number of 5 star hotels with indoor & outdoor swimming pools, spa, Jacuzzi, sauna & gymnasiums. There is also an excellent selection of local restaurants. The promenade is well lit, paved & beautifully landscaped

There are Parrot fish, Damsel fish & hundreds of others just below the surface of the water.

The village of Caniço with a shopping centre and supermarkets is about 2 km away.

Funchal the capital of Madeira is approx. 12 km and the airport is 13 Km. Car Hire is NOT necessary, as a local bus runs hourly to Funchal and other locations on the eastern side of the island. The bus stop is about 50 m from the apartment. Golf is 7 Km away.

Other Activities: Lavada walking Botanical Gardens

Golf: Golfers will be pleased to know that the new Palheiro golf course is about 7km away. Classic Madeiran hills, ridges and deep valleys have all been incorporated into the terrain to produce a dramatically interesting course, with stunning views. UK visitors are made very welcome and we can arrange for our clients to be included in some informal rounds of golf at the Club.

The spectacular 27-hole Santo da Serra Golf Course [also known as Campo de Golfe part of the PGA European Tour] is also within easy reach - 13 km away. This is Madeira’s oldest golf course. It sits high up on a plateau and is marvellously scenic with inspirational views back up the mountains and out over the Atlantic below.
