A warm welcome in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

The accommodation was warm, very comfortable, and was well appointed and equipped with everything we needed. Our hosts were helpful and welcoming. The location is perfect for walking - through ancient woodland, down to the hotspots (!) of Barmouth, and up onto the mountains - all straight from the front door. The setting is very peaceful and provides beautiful views across the estuary towards Cader Idris.

Stunning spot on estuary with lovely views and lovely walks from the property.

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable convenient accommodation with stunning views and a great start for walks and cycle rides. The owners were away but their friends who were house sitting for them were lovely and very helpful. We're used to holiday cottages so had brought our own sharp knives and favourite kitchen equipment. Would recommend this if toy plan to do lots of cooking. It rained a lot this week but we went out every day and managed to dry out in between. Michelin starred restaurant in Barmouth needs booking well in advance... we couldn't get a table, and bike hire (Birmingham Garage) not open every day so check this beforehand. Best cafe in Dolgellau is Roberts .... well worth a visit. Co-op in Barmouth well stocked and open long hours.

Cute Cottage in Lovely Area of Wales

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I spent five nights at Bodowen Coach House last week and greatly enjoyed our stay there. The view of the estuary was excellent and the grounds were well kept. The owners were very helpful and were available to ask questions in the last half of our stay. There are hiking trails in the hills just behind the house and there is a sidewalk in front of the house along the highway that you can walk which offers flatter terrain. Beds were two comfortable twins in each of the two bedrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed but the freezer was very small. The only problem we had was the internet where we could not access a few of our social networking sites where we communicate with our friends in the States. This was solved by the owners once they got back from vacation. If you want a quiet, relatively isolated place to stay with a great view, then this is the place for you.

A beautiful property in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

I would have no hesitation recommending this property we arrived to a lovely welcome. The coach house was spotless with the most amazing views and surrounding grounds it was the perfect size for our family we really enjoyed staying here and would return if we go back to the area. The home made cake also went down a treat with my teenage boys. Five stars.

Peaceful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the cottage and we had an amazing time. I think I fell in loved when I saw the view from the front room. the estuary and the mountains certainly made my holiday. The owners were very welcoming and they even picked me up from the station. If you want a place with loads of nightlife then this is probably not for you. However, if you want a place that is peaceful, quiet and relaxing then I recommend this place. The actual cottage was clean and very comfortable for our family - basically 4 adults. My wife drove there and while she loved the place she found the turning to the house difficult to find so it might be worth checking the gps. We found the supply of towels very useful as well the freshly baked tea cake!

Car: recommended

Bodowen coach house is situated just a mile and a half away from Barmouth, you can walk there from the property along the old Drovers Way which takes in the famous Panorama Walk with its views of the beautiful Mawddach Estuary. It is a walker's paradise, with several walks into the mountains starting from the door of the property!

Sailing, horse riding and cycling are available nearby, as are a local RSPB centre, narrow gauge stream railways, castles and galleries.

The well known mountain biking centre at Coed y Brenin is 12 miles away and the Mawddach cycle trail on the opposite side of the estuary is visible from the property, as is Cader Idris beyond.

There are long sandy beaches backed by sand dunes on the coast northwards towards Harlech beach. Barmouth itself is a popular seaside resort with a good Co-op store, numerous fish and chip shops and cafes. It is a lovely town for children with donkey rides, a seafront train and opportunities for sandcastles galore.

The first National Trust property in Wales was bought above the town and Barmouth is famous for being the start of the famous 3 Peak race. Major H Tilman a mountaineer and sailor, was one of the founders of this race and lived at Bodowen where he wrote many of his books until his death in 1977.

The picturesque and quirky village of Portmerion is just up the coast and can be reached by easily by rail.

Further afield you can explore the LLyn Peninsula or travel down the coast to beauty spots such as Aberdovey.

Snowdon is an hours' drive away as are the well known tourist villages of Betws y coed or 40 minutes to the town of Bala and its stunning lake.
