About Ali Carlyon

We live at Brooking which adjoins Pearses Cottage,I am a physio now retired and William who is Cornish was a farmer and now helps out on other peoples farms. We have four children grown up and living away from home. Living next to the cottage means that we are on hand for advice suggestions and any help that is needed.

Ali Carlyon purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Ali Carlyon chose Totnes

Ashprington is a very pretty village in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The cottage was originally one of a row of three, now the only one remaining, it has been sympathetically renovated, keeping its charm whilst also providing very comfortable accommodation. Both the house and the cottage were lived in by members of Alison's family when the whole village belonged to the nearby Sharpham Estate. Pearse's is perfect for both a winter and summer, a woodburner keeping you cosy. There are lovely walks straight out of your door, and three pubs within walking distance.

What makes this cottage unique

If a quiet peaceful stay with a choice of walks, the attractions of Totnes, South Hams, nearby Dartington Hall, next door Sharpham or close by good pubs are what you are looking for then this is your perfect cottage. Or how about staying put with a drink by the woodburner!

Lovely little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 7 nights in this lovely cottage which has everything you need for a self catering staycation. The bed is to die for ,it's massive and soooo comfort and I slept so well here , something I tend to struggle with at home. The village is indeed quiet with just a pub who are all very welcoming and can recommend to eat here. Watch the roads around and getting to /from the village . They are very narrow and some are single tracks too.. Totnes is a few miles away , so the cottage is well placed to journey out of. The owners are very mindful at leaving you to it but if you do need anything they are on hand to help.. just ask .. overall a pleasant stay .

Gorgeous cosy cottage

  • 4 of 5

Great little cottage for 2 plus dog. Friendly local pubs offering good food within easy walking distance. If like us you are staying during the darker days, take a touch if you want to walk to Keith Floyds old pub as there is no 'light pollution'.

Lovely touch was homemade scones with jam and clotted cream which were sooo good- 'Thank you Ali'

Good location to explore this part of Devon. Only niggle was with the website which caused a few issues but the owners were great at sorting everything out. Well worth a visit

Idyllic breakaway in stunning cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived early in a deluge of rain, but the village of Ashprington still looked very quaint. We popped to the Durrants Arms for a quick drink, which was very friendly, beer festival that weekend!

The cottage was spotless, and Ali was very welcoming. While we at the Durrants Arms, Ali had lit the log burner for us and delivered a cream tea, which was truly scrumptious.i

Our stay was perfect, weather could of been kinder. The cottage was perfect for us to explore South Devon, with our little dog, Jazz.

Lovely location, with lots of walks. Close to Totnes, and access to trains or riverboat. Good, friendly local pub. Owners very welcoming but not intrusive.

A little gem!

  • 5 of 5

We feel privileged to have had the opportunity to spend a few days in this idyllic little cottage and just wish we could have stayed longer. It is well equipped, tastefully furnished, warm, comfortable and superbly situated in a very beautiful village. William and Ali were extremely kind and helpful and made us feel really welcome. There is a pub nearby where the food is excellent and many attractive walks close by. Fabulous!
