About James Ramshaw

Jim was born and grew up in the north east of England. He says "I entered mining at 18 as a mining engineer. I served as undermanager and safety engineer for 30 years. I moved to Cromer in 1997 to run Bon Vista as a guest house, which I did successfully for 20 years and in the process the Bon Vista has become well established and respected in the town . 2014 I retired and decided to convert the property into holiday accommodation"

James Ramshaw purchased this house in 1997

Why James Ramshaw chose Cromer

Jim is determined to maintain the same high standards he had when running the property as a guest house. The great reviews are still on Trip Advisor. "I had found the ideal place to live 20 years ago, and when it came to selling up I just couldn't so that was when I decided to convert the house.

I love the Victorian features and the stories behind the builder Alfred Bernard Macdonald who built the three terraces around here"

place where I always feel most at peace."

What makes this house unique

The Bon Vista is a very tastefully decorated first and second floor property, catering for up to 8 people comfortably . This is ideal for a large group occupancy wether it is an extended family or a group of friends.

We had a really nice stay at your home , thank you. There is plenty of room and all the bedrooms are ample size. The property is in a good location near to the pier and shops. The house was clean and quite well equipped with most things you would need.

Very comfortable and well kept property.

  • 5 of 5

The lounge/diner was spacious and inviting. It had a beautiful sea view. The bedrooms were well presented with extremely comfortable beds.

There was plenty to do in the immediate area with the pier, shops and amusements - not to mention the beach!

The weather was kind to us too and our family of nine would recommend Bon Vista for an enjoyable holiday.

Great location just 5 minutes walk from the pier and the beach

  • 3 of 5

The best part about the property is its location, if you know Cromer you will be aware there are many places to eat and drink and all are within easy walking distance.

The down side is you are only renting 2/3 rds of a converted property so the actual living area is pretty cramped, there were only six of us and that was a tight push at times. Cooking is akin to cooking on a narrow boat as the prep/side areas are very very limited with a microwave, toaster and kettle using up 80% of the sides in the kitchen. As long as you want to eat out all the time then that's fine but even breakfast was a juggling act to get ready.

The property was very clean and most things you could want are provided though there is a DVD player listed it wasn't there when we stayed. The showers are functional but a bit dated , not as powerful as the shower we have at home and a bit cramped.

As the property used to be a b&b you can understand why these problems exist but it does mean you have to accept some compromises. The downstairs apartment will have the opposite issue as it will have lots of living space with a full size living room, kitchen and dining room yet only 1 bedroom?

There is also a bit of an issue with parking as the street outside is unrestricted so anyone can park and as it is so close to the pier visitors will park up for the day leaving you driving around and around trying to find a parking space. There is 1 parking space for each property at the back of the house but when we stayed there was a skip in 1 place and the owner parked his car in the other! So though having a space included it quite often wasn't available to use.

Overall we had a great time, more thanks to the actual town and area which are great than the property which is fine.

We have rented bigger and better properties from owners direct for less in the past.

Owner's Response: Dear anonymous Thank you for your review which I feel is rather harsh . Let me try and address you comments in order. The accommodation is as it is advertised and it was never planned to be the whole of the property . I would despute it is as cramped as you are insinuating as there is ample comfortable space for eight people . There are not so many properties that have ensuite in every bed room . I am sorry the showers are not as powerful as you own what can I say ,the shower units were actually installed two years ago the shower cubicals were purpose built into the space available . The kitchen is a normal functioning unit ,with I would suggest ample cooking space and preparation area could also include the breakfast bar if you require more space no one else has reported such problems . Sorry about the DVDs player that was overlooked but you needed only to ask and one could have been provided. I'm sure there was one before . I would respectfully suggest that the downstairs apartment is a private dwelling and as such is none of your business. At present parking is available for one car at the rear and that is all that is offered . Yes there is a skip there at present but the other space is available . There should not have been a car in the other space since the owner was actually away that week and in any case had he not been he always gives priority to guest cars. Thank you anyway and my advice is don't live in the past , the price was very reasonable, and good luck for your next letting. Jim Ramshaw
