Overview

About the property

The house draws its particular charm from the uniqueness of its architectural surroundings.

It is located inside an ancient baglio, a typical Sicilian rural courtyard enclosed with a large door, at the centre of which lies a mulberry tree.

The house is on two floors and covers about 65 square meters. The entrance opens onto a large dining area with a nice kitchen, comfortable and organized. Also on the ground floor is the bedroom, spacious and bright, with two large windows overlooking a magnificent olive grove. The double bed (160 x 200) allows for a third bed or cot (both on request). Next to the bedroom is a bathroom with a spacious and elegant shower.

A stone staircase leads to the mezzanine where you find the living area, also usable as a second bedroom for 2/3 people. There is a sofa bed (140x 200) and enough space for an extra bed. This area leads to a lovely terrace (15 sq m) on the roofs of the baglio where you can have breakfast with the morning sun, sunbathe in privacy or enjoy the cool of the evening. The house overlooks the courtyard of the baglio and in the reserved space in front of it you can relax on a sun lounger or dine by candlelight.

The house is the result of a recent restoration using recycled materials such as ancient stones and railings, and the choice of handmade terracotta for the floors and chestnut beams for the ceilings, give it a particular charm. The house has a heating system that makes it comfortable even for a winter stay. Perfect for a couple, for a family of 3/4 persons, or for two couples.

About The Owner

I was born in Milan where I live 9 months a year. During the summer months I move to Sicily with my family, in ancient country house that we have inherited from our great-grandfather and where we hope to welcome you. I am a teacher of Italian language for foreigners and a music teacher, my husband is an opera singer, specialized in Baroque repertoire. We love and know in depth the Sicilian culture and we'll be happy to give you all the advice to spend a pleasant and interesting holyday.

  • 4 of 5

What a special place.

  • 5 of 5

Elena has created a little piece of paradise in the landscape of Sicily. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect! Elena’s property has been immaculately and lovingly rebuilt. Her attention to detail is apparent everywhere you look, from the amazing kitchen sink to the beautiful Sicilian tiles, the comfortable furnishings, the lovely terrace, and the lush gardens surrounding the house. The kitchen was well stocked. The bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, with a floor level shower. There are sun loungers at your disposal if you enjoy just laying at the patio there with a glass of wine. We had every intention to explore the area, but we soon found ourselves so relaxed and happy at the terrace that we didn't range very far.

The physical beauty of Elena’s home is lovely and well worth a visit (or two!), but what makes it truly exceptional is the host herself. Elena is so warm and inviting, and helpful in any possible way, she made us feel genuinely welcome and comfortable in their home.

We fell in love with the place, not only because of its exceptional location, but because its owners have imbued it with their own sense of beauty and their great generosity. It is luxurious and simple all at once, providing great comfort and utter beauty.

I could go on, but really - the place is extraordinary, and our stay was perfect, except for one major flaw: it ended. Overall i would highly recommend Elena’s place as a perfect base for a holiday in Sicily and we will definitely be staying here again on our next visit.

We fell in love with the place!!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I just returned from 8 nights in Sicily + I must say that staying at Elena’s estate was our favorite place out of all our stays! Elena could not have been more welcoming and accommodating!!! When selecting a property for the first time, there is always a fear that descriptions will not match reality. But this is one of those rare instances where reality surpassed even our highest expectations. Elena put tremendous thought into every detail. The house is furnished impeccably with love in every detail- it is very clean, pleasant, and new decorated. Outside areas including the patios + the courtyard are stunning. Thus we felt regret for leaving after 2 nights as we just wanted to stay + enjoy the house and its silent scenery.

Before our arrival the owner Elena gave us a perfect description to guide us there by car. In regard of our vacation Elena gave us her number + she answered to messages promptly + was very attentive. Within moments of arriving we were entranced by the stunning views and the warmth of the welcome from Elena. She was so helpful and really knowledgeable about what we could see and do in Sicily. She had stocked the fridge with all the essentials! Furthermore Elena gave us some advices for the local village Balestrate + pointed out some restaurants. She exhibited the highest standard of hospitality. From the outset she made it known that she would make herself available as often or as limited as we desired. What a special place! Elena has created a little piece of paradise in the landscape of Sicily. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect! Elena’s property has been immaculately and lovingly rebuilt. The house is situated in the countryside of Balestrate - a small town in the beautiful Gulf of Castellammare, set between Palermo and Trapani on Sicily's northern coast.

The village and beach lie a mere 3km from the house, whilst the airports of Palermo and Trapani require just 20 and 35 minutes by car respectively.

Thanks to its convenient location, many of Sicily’s natural splendours and artistic gems lie a mere stone’s throw from Balestrade (with visual and gastronomic treats including the tuna Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, San Vito lo Capo, Segesta, Erice, Monreale, Palermo and Selinunte).

The coast of the Gulf of Castellammare alternates long stretches of sandy beach, ideal for those with small children, with spectacular rocky stretches interspersed with coves.

You will be within touching distance of a variety of art venues, ranging from the famous archaeological sites of Segesta and Selinunte to the art of Norman Monreale and Palermo. Also nearby, the charming village of Erice provides spectacular views of the islands of Egadi and the salt pans of Trapani.
