The entrance leads to a ground floor bedroom / study and to the lounge with an open fire place with newly fitted wood burning stove. Furnished very comfortably and in keeping with the character of the cottage.

At the rear of the cottage is a well appointed fitted kitchen, equipped with everything most people would need, and the dinning area is bright with doors leading out to the rear garden.

Stairs to the first floor and to the master double bedroom at the front and a twin to the rear and between the two, a modern fitted bathroom with shower over the bath.

Heated by a central heating system and with contemporary, yet in-keeping, fixtures, fittings and furniture, Butterfly Cottage is warm and inviting with comfortable accommodation.

About Andrew Court

I am an Architect mainly working locally on the Isle of Wight. My wife is a painter. We have lived on the Island for many years now and purchased Butterfly Cottage as it was in such a wonderful location with much character and charm. We have worked hard on the property to make it a wonderful place to stay... and enjoy staying there ourselves.

Why Andrew Court chose Freshwater

Butterfly Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. It is out in the country but only a stones throw for the village of Freshwater with all of the necessary facilities. It is so near to the beaches of Freshwater Bay, Compton Bay, Alum Bay and Colwell Bay that it is no effort to pack up a picnic for the day and be there in five minutes. The harbour town of Yarmouth is closed at hand with its' shops cafes and pubs. Access to the Downs and the Tennyson trail is on the doorstep with views of the Island the English Chanel and the South Coast which are second to none. The High Down Inn is within walking distance as is the Piano Cafe and Dimbola Lodge which is located at the Bay.

Butterfly Cottage is a stunning character cottage set in a peaceful, rural location with views of downland at the rear, beyond the garden. This cottage enjoys a peaceful, rural setting with views of downland beyond the rear garden. Butterfly Cottage is located just outside Freshwater but very close to all the local amenities. (bank supermarket, restaurants and cafes, chemist etc). The High Down Inn pub is in walking distance from the cottage and serves wonderful country food. Freshwater Bay has a wonderful beach just down the road from the cottage with caves and cliffs to explore. In the summer it is superb for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling around the rocks. In the winter the waves come crashing in. Good surf can be found when conditions are right. Near by Yarmouth is a sailing location with harbour and assortment of nautical events which run all summer long. Pubs and seafood restaurants can be found here. Colwell bay is not far from Butterfly Cottage with its safe sandy beach and cafes, ideal for the kid to paddle and eat ice creams. The famous Needles are located not far to the West with cafe, museum and spectacular views across the English Channel. The local area is steeped in History with Farringford House just round the corner where Alfred Lord Tennyson lived at the turn of the century. The old thatched church of Freshwater Bay and Dimbola Lodge (the home of Julia Margret Cameron now a museum) are only just down the road. There is a footpath 100m from Butterfly Cottage which takes you up onto the Tennyson Trail and the network of footpaths which run right across the Island. The views from here are stunning in all directions.
