About the property

Baglio delle Gazze

This is a charming traditional historical villa in Sicily, on 6 acres on the protected Nature Reserve Monte Cofano. The House has been recently renovated and has 3 independent areas: The main area has a large living and a big fireplace, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There are also 2 separated studio apartments with 1 bedroom, 1 kitchenette and bathrooms. Old farms and villas with typical inner courtyards known as “baglio” are scattered across the area, testifying to its old agricultural roots. There is an ancient firewood furnace to make bread and cook traditional Sicilian meals. The entire house offers sea view. All the rooms have their own independent entrance. The geographical location of Baglio delle Gazze makes it an ideal starting point for day trips to numerous places of interest in western Sicily.

The City of Custonaci: A farming town of about 4,600 is located in the Trapani province; its territory comprises the Monte Sparagio, rising over 1,100m, where a lush area known as the Bosco di Giacalamaro has evolved. The town was founded in the late-1700s; it currently comprises several administrative divisions and an old centre developed on two orthogonal axes around the central Santuario della Madonna di Custonaci. The city economy primarily relies on the marble mining and processing. The Perlato di Sicilia, avorio venato and fiorito, libeccio antico and bottoncino marble types are worldwide famous. Endowed with a beautiful, unspoilt shore, Custonaci is an attractive destination for summer tourists. Particularly attractive are the seaside resorts of Cornino and Cala Buguto, the former being a lovely fishing village overshadowed by the Cofano Mount. From the coast, a trail facing the mount, winds its way past the 1500’s Torre di San Giovanni di Cofano and the Piana di Frassino-Tuono.

How to reach Baglio delle Gazze: I A29 Palermo-Trapani: leave the motorway at the Castellamare del Golfo exit. SS187 then following signs to Trapani and turn on SP16 to the city of Custonaci, then proceed in the direction of Baia di Cornino and once arrived at the sea-front of the bay turn right on the last battered road going through the mountain, Baglio delle Gazze is the last house on the left side of this battered road. Google Earth: 38° 05' 55' N // 12° 39' 49' E

Day Trips: Numerous walks, offering a various scenery, can be found along the coastline: the wide, sandy beach of San Vito, ‘Lo Zingaro' National Park , with its stunning bays of crystal-clear water, the amazing pinnacles of rock (Faraglioni) at Scopello, the Marsala Lagoon. In perfect harmony with this abundance of unspoilt nature there are traces of human life: the ancient tuna factories, salt works, water mills and old harbour sites, which are evidence of the strong ties with this rich and beautiful land. In no time a tall you can visit a host of unforgettable places. However, we will try to give you some advice about those places which are absolutely 'not to be missed'. Archaeological sites: Selinus the largest Greek colony in Western Sicily; Segesta is an Elima town with its Doric temple and magnificent theatre. The island of Mothia is one of the most important Phoenician towns; the medieval town of Erice. The archipelago of the Egadi Island is magnificent.

Amazing, perfect place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Studio 2 for four nights at the beginning of our week in Sicily and it was the absolute highlight of the whole week. Getting there was easy as we arranged to meet the housekeeper in the local town to guide us to the house. We were the only guests so had the whole place to ourselves which was magical.

The studio apartment was tiny, but everything was perfect and the bed was comfy, there was some welcome fruit, bread & milk in the kitchen and the bathroom was great. The whole place is stunning, and the views from the terrace in front of the apartment were spectacular of the sea and you can see Erica in the distance. More than we'd bargained for.

The local area is very quiet, and we didn't find anywhere to eat or have a drink in Custonaci or Cornino, but probably partly because we were out of season. That said, the local supermarket is great and we got some delicious BBQ food and wine and spent a lot more time chilling out at the house than we'd thought. Lovely walking through the nature reserve and a beautiful tonnery and swimming spot about an hour and a half away around the mountain.

It was a good base for day trips and outings to Erice, Trapani, San Vito lo Capo and Scopello and we did go out for dinner a couple of nights. Not a place to stay if you don't have your own transport though.

I can't recommend this place enough, and would have been happy to have spent the whole week there to be honest. A very romantic spot!

Great location & fantastic acomodation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for the second week of our holiday (4th July to the 11 July 2011) and it was fantastic. The location is great for walks and we enjoyed the beaches very much.

We stayed in Studio 2 which was perfect for us with an outside kitchen.

When we arrived there was no other people around so it was nice and peaceful.

Bellissimo posto e pieno di charme.

  • 5 of 5

Haupthaus exclusiv.Nebengebäude mittelmäßig.

  • 2 of 5

Bad eben so klein.

Very nice appartment, friendly house keeper.

Our flight arrived in the evening in Canatia, as we arrived in appartment it was already midnight. We felt really welcome! House keeper was waiting for us and had even already prepared fresh fruit, milk, water and bread for us.

This appartment has very stilfull interior design, see and mountens are just few feet away, unbelievable romantic.

Summery:we really enjoyed our stay, the appartment is even nicer than the photos, we will recommand every friend of us to go there!
