About the property

Ideal lakeside holiday location for up to six in the heart of the Lake District

Stickle Tarn Lodge pine cabin occupies a genuinely unique and peaceful woodland setting within the White Cross Bay holiday park and marina beside Lake Windermere, just to the north of Windermere town. It is fully equipped to provide a wonderful self-catering holiday for up to six people and is in an ideal location for enjoying all that Windermere and the Lake District have to offer! The lodge enjoys what several guests have commented on as being the best location in the park. About 5-10 mins walk from the lake shore, it has its own distinct plot with a garden and grass bank leading down to the dry stone wall. With woodland rising up behind it, there is a distinct sense of seclusion; and yet the front aspect opens up to an uninterrupted view over the park. Bird song is all around. Some guests have seen deer close by.

On the verified Google listing (Google “Stickle Tarn Lodge”), one guest recently reviewed:

" it is the perfect base for exploring the beauty of the Lake District. Well-equipped, pristinely clean, plenty of homely touches and an excellent DVD collection! Would highly recommend. We'll be back!"

In brief, the lodge comprises:

*Open plan living room, kitchen and dining areas with pine clad ceiling (see photos for more detail)

* Bathroom/toilet with over-bath shower

* Master bedroom with ensuite shower room

* Two twin bedrooms.

Each of the bedrooms has more-than-ample storage space with built in wardrobes, drawer chests and bedside cabinets.

Softly laundered hand and bath towels are provided for each guest, together with high quality toiletries in each bathroom (e.g. L’Occitane liquid soap). The owners, John and Jeanne, do all the cleaning and preparation ourselves and we aim to ensure each of our guests feels uniquely welcome. We provide fresh milk, a range of teas, coffee (instant and filter), sugar and chocolate for your arrival and use during your holiday.

The lodge's large south-facing balcony commands an elevated view over the park in the lake direction. Additional features include: free Wi Fi (provided by White Cross Bay and subject to availability) an extensive DVD library, USB charging points, digital radio and music docking, and complimentary toiletries. Stickle Tarn Lodge is looked after it with loving care and we do everything necessary themselves to ensure it is as clean and welcoming as possible when our guests arrive.

There is a private driveway immediately to the front for two vehicles (carefully parked). Additional vehicles can be left elsewhere within the park.

White Cross Bay Leisure Park is located alongside Lake Windermere itself, about two miles north of the town. The park has been described, quite justifiably, as: "the most idyllic and scenic holiday location in the heart of the Lake District".

Within the main complex building (5 mins, or less, walk away, or ) there is literally 'something for everyone': Reception; Swimming Pool; Sauna; Gym; Large Bar; Restaurant; Shop; Fast-food outlet; Games arcade; Beer garden and Childrens' play area; and an outdoor multi-sports court.

[PLEASE NOTE: A one-off fee of £15.00 is payable to White Cross Bay reception to purchase a leisure pass – if required. This allows entry to the swimming pool/gym facilities for the whole party throughout the duration of your visit]

In recent years, White Cross Bay has introduced a dedicated entertainments team which caters to all ages and tastes. An arrival, you will be given a schedule of the daily events (note: some of these are charged as extras, such as certain popular pool activities for the family: e.g. water walkers and aqua jets). There is also a supervised play area where children can be looked after safely.

On the other hand, there is ample space and facility within the park to enjoy quieter types of entertainment. There is, for example, an extensive woodland area in the park - inhabited by deer - which is accessible for guests to explore and enjoy, or for dog walking. The woodland walks are very nearly within a stone’s throw distance from the lodge.

Finally, if required, there is a well equipped launderette literally just a couple of minutes away.

About The Owner

The photo shows Jeanne with granddaughter, Amabel, who is about to go for a lake trip on our little cabin boat - the Bonny Jean.

We are both approaching retirement: Jeanne is a nurse and John is involved in property maintenance. We have been coming on holidays to the Lakes ever since our own children were young (mainly camping in those days) and have explored the area extensively.

Some of the wonderful walks we have done over the years in the Lake District can be read about on the 'walks and information' page of our website, or on the Facebook page we have for Stickle Tarn Lodge: links to these can be found by clicking onto the 'Facilities' page above.

We are incredibly privileged to have such a wonderful base of our own near to Windermere and we put our heart and soul into making the lodge a place where our guests can also feel perfectly at home.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2007

Why The Owner chose Windermere

Quite simply, it's in such a uniquely enviable location. It offers the opportunity for a wonderful sense of seclusion, and yet is just a few minutes walk away from all of the White Cross Bay park facilities (pool, bar etc) and the lake itself.

Within the Lake District, it's hard to think of a location which could be better placed to access all the attractions which the area has to offer.

Add to all this the fact that every aspect of the lodge is lovingly looked after by ourselves. We do all the cleaning and maintenance, and we put our heart and soul into ensuring that our guests get the best holiday possible!

Amazing lodge with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 night for my daughters 2nd birthday. Although it was raining for the 4 days we were there we still had so much fun. The lodge is immaculate and has every you will need. The DVD's in the lodge are great. The owners have good taste and lots of new DVD's that have recently been released to watch. The park, pool and bar are nipping clean with plenty to do. A timetable at reception will keep you organised.

We will definitely be returning here , we have no complaints what so ever.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this great review, Michelle! Jeanne and I are so glad you had a good time for your daughter's birthday...it genuinely gives us pleasure thinking that other people are enjoying our wonderful lodge in these kind of ways. And thanks for the kind words about the DVD collection. I enjoy adding to it and making what I myself think are good selections - but I must confess that Jeanne doesn't always agree with my choices; so I'm glad someone else does!! Hope to see you again sometime next year maybe? Kind regards and thanks from both of us! John and Jeanne

The best Lodge you will ever stay in!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place this is, John and Jeanne were perfect hosts in terms of helping to arrange the booking and preparing for their guests every need. The lodge is equipped with everything that you will ever need for a trip to the Lakes. They have thought of everything! They really do go above and beyond to ensure that you feel welcome and to ensure that you have a really good experience.

I cannot thank you both enough for allowing us to stay in your beautiful lodge/home, it was just perfect - these few days away meant so much to me and my mum and we had a lovely relaxing break.

Anyone that is thinking of booking Stickle Tarn Lodge - Do It! You will love it - it is worth every penny and more and John and Jeanne are excellent at communicating with you about your booking and helping you get ready for your stay. The lodge is equipped with DVD's, WIFI and lots of Info about the local attractions and walking routes etc.

They even supplied bedding, towels and a welcome chocolate on the bed! Those personal touches that show going the extra mile and show that they care about the guests.

We will be back without a doubt! If we can get booked in when we are off - because I know it it is very busy - this is testament to the excellent quality and positive experiences that everyone has had - read the comments in the visitors book! So many repeat customers.

Thank you again John and Jeanne! I hope you have the chance to enjoy some time here this year! xx

Owner's Response: Oh dear! So sorry that the weather was unkind to you! When it rains, it certainly knows how to rain. But glad to hear that you were comfortable in the lodge and still had an enjoyable time. At least there's plenty to do when it rains, both on the leisure park itself (e.g. inside the leisure centre) and in the nearby towns (e.g. Windermere, Bowness, and Ambleside). Did you manage to have a cruise on the lake, I wonder? Thank you for leaving the lodge amazingly clean and tidy...it's always incredibly helpful to Jeanne and me as we do all the cleaning and servicing ourselves. We very much hope you will book again in the summer. All the very best for 2018!

Really enjoyed our stay over Christmas, the whole family had a great time including our dog.

The owners really looked after us and left us some great gifts to munch on when we were there.

Everything you need is on your doorstep.

Owner's Response: Thank you! So glad you liked the mince pies etc...but shame you forgot about the Cava bubbly. Never mind, it's now there for Jeanne and me to tackle!! It was great having you as guests and we appreciated how clean and tidy you left the lodge; there wasn't very much cleaning left for us to do. Fantastic! it's especially pleasing to know that our lovely lodge has provided such an enjoyable holiday at such a special time of the year. We very much hope to have you as guests again some time in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for these very kind comments, Brian. I'm glad, too, that you were able to benefit from the early check in time (12 noon) that we were able to accommodate. Finally, thank you for leaving everywhere clean and tidy. Not only does it help Jeanne and I to feel that the lodge has been appreciated, but it genuinely helps with the changeover - and having driven over from Durham, we appreciate it enormously.

Excellent lodge, superb location

  • 5 of 5

The lodge had excellent facilities for a family holiday. The kids were especially taken with the vast CD library - just what you need in a windy autumn night to keep the kids entertained. Great advice from the hosts about the different restaurants in the area and we especially loved the thai food (we don't have a good one near us in Glasgow). Had a swim everyday in between the walks, coffee and cakes in the tearooms and a bracing boat trip on the lake. Altogether an excellent introduction to the Lake district area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to send this review, Frank; it's MUCH appreciated. I think you were referring to the DVD collection - not CDs. And I'm always chuffed when guests comment on it as I've invested a lot of thought (and money for that money) into the titles that I buy on a regular basis (for all tastes and ages). Even my grown up children have commented favourably - which is praise indeed coming from THEM!! Jeanne and I were genuinely very pleased to have your family as guests, and we hope you'll be back again at some point...you'll be very welcome.
