Overview

About the property

This beautiful 2 bedroom self-catering apartment occupies the entire ground floor of a charming small townhouse in an excellent location and in one of Edinburgh’s most perfect Georgian Squares. This wonderfully bright drawing room apartment which sleeps four people has a lovely sun catching drawing room with deep window seats and two most relaxing bedrooms and retains all the charms of the Georgian era with a sense of soft décor and luxurious comfort throughout with living flame open fire, working shutters, oak flooring and warm lighting. Virtually next door to the apartment are the glorious Glenogle Baths, restored to their Victorian splendour of 1897 with beautiful heated pool and sauna and open for a morning dip or evening wind down. Located in the quirky bohemian village of Stockbridge yet only a 10 minute walk to the city centre, Saxe Coburg Place very much enjoys the best of both worlds of village living in the heart of neo-classical New Town. Most find themselves quite smitten with Stockbridge village itself. It’s a great place for shop browsing by day and eating and drinking by night. Set around a maze of cobbled streets it's a marketplace for antiques and quality gifts, speciality food, many art galleries, second hand bookshops and vintage just a touch of eccentricity!

Charming Flat!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed at this charming flat and loved it! It was a great location from which to start and end our day! It is in a quiet area with plenty of shops and restaurants and close to the Royal Mile and New Town via the bus line. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Edinburgh.

Elegant, comfortable flat

  • 4 of 5

The owners of the flat were kind and helpful throughout our stay. Only the difficulty with parking makes us give it 4 stars and not 5.

As long as you can use the frequent buses available you can reach most of Edinburgh from here, and Stockbridge itself is charming. The Botanic Gardens are well worth a visit, and a walk along part of the Water of Leith is a must.

Owner's Response: Dear Moira, thank you very much for your review. Parking in the city centre can be a problem but we’re lucky In Stockbridge with metered parking during the week 8.30am to 5.30pm and free parking at weekends and evenings. Also of course, 7 day a week free parking is just 10 min (lovely!) walk away, looking at the castle on your return which is a real help. Thank you again for staying and hope to welcome you back, best wishes, Laura

Great place, quick ride to town with uber

  • 5 of 5

Good place to stay, comy beds, the master had the best shower to use, but the toilet was loose and moved. The "kitchen" was so small, it almost seemed like it was a closet prior. Was able to do a wash of cloths. Got a little lost the first night, but after getting your bearings, easy to get around. If you need to sleep with a fan going, there was a small desk fan in the 2nd bedroom. The pictures of the place look great, but a bit staged, couches are getting a little worn. But overall, still enjoyed the home. The owner left some goodies and card, so that was nice. Took an uber from the airport that costed £17-19. To town didn't cost more than £5 from the home.

Owner's Response: Dear Jennifer, thank you very much for taking time to leave a review, its very helpful. The ensuite toilet has just had a new tiled floor and thankfully the plumber has now returned to help us secure it properly! Some of my guests have described the apartment just as advertised and my photos have been done quite recently but will return to the apartment on my next visit with a critical eye! with best wishes from an Autumnal Edinburgh, Laura

Stay in Stockbridge and Edinburgh

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is in a great location. Very quiet, near grocery stores, restaurants and bus stops. Also within walking distance of the Botanical Gardens. The crown molding is absolutely gorgeous. Bedrooms were a decent size and comfortable. One of the bathrooms is fine but one is quite small and does not have any shelves and the shower is tiny. The kitchen is the smallest that I have ever seen but we ate out most of the time so not an issue for us. We cannot figure out how to use the combination wash/dryer so some simple instructions would be helpful. The dining table requires that both leaves be lifted but since the table is up against the wall you would have to move the table in order to fully open it. So two of us would use the table at one time in order to keep from having to move the table. Would we stay there again ? Absolutely, the negative points are really minor and can be overcome. The positives made it a memorable stay for us.

Owner's Response: Dear John, Thank you for your review. It's a wee kitchen certainly, we call it a kitchenette, although it seems to have everything a big kitchen has including dishwasher which always amazes me! There are instructions for the washer/dryer in the oak bureau and I should look at summarising a common cycle. Dining; many set up the antique gate leg table for four or move to the window which is rather nice with the lamp light in the evening but either way leaves it ready for breakfast too. Delighted you would return and thank you very much for staying, best wishes, Laura

Spectacular

  • 5 of 5

Although we never got to meet Laura she is the best, she had coffee and cookies and nibbles for us to eat when we got there which was late and nothing open. The flat was clean well equipped and convenient to local pubs and grocery stores and on the first floor. Safe, quiet area with temporary parking out front. We definitely would recommend this apartment and hope to return someday.
