Gatehouse West set in the beautiful Colmer Estate with shared swimming pools.

Gatehouse West on the Colmer country estate is a warm, cosy and tastefully decorated cottage. It is situated on the west side of the passageway that opens out to the large outdoor swimming pool. Very comfortably furnished, the cottage enjoys a warm, south facing garden and is perfect for couples and families wanting to have facilities but also a peaceful and tranquil setting.

The stone built cottage is set in 28 acres of private grounds that include woodland, a fishing lake and meadows. There is a large communal heated outdoor swimming pool (heated late May to the end of August) and an indoor pool that is heated and open from beginning of April until the end of the October half term which is normally beginning of November.

As well as the woods and pasture there is a lovely walled garden giving children a safe place to play. It is also a peaceful and sheltered spot to read and relax. Colmer is centrally situated in the heart of the South Hams, an area of outstanding beauty, within easy reach of attractive towns such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Modbury. Beautiful beaches and envigorating coastal walks are within 20 minutes drive and Dartmoor National Park is just 8 miles away.

This is a wonderful holiday destination with fantastic facilities on the doorstep and many places within the extensive grounds of this lovely location for those seeking peace and tranquility. The California Inn is only a short walk away, as is the local Spar shop which sells most things. This is a peaceful and tranquil environment for families and couples alike.

- All weather tennis court in good condition(please bring own equipment).

Lovely place beautiful surroundings

Cottage lovely next to outdoor pool which is magnificent warm and clean, the grounds are beautiful, we were lucky with weather so had BBQs. Only downside for us was my friend had an accident when returning from pool, tripped on stairs and ended up on Plymouth hospital with broken heel. 12 weeks unable to put weight on foot she was meant to be going to Greece next week, but all cancelled. But of course this was accident nothing to do with the lovely place

Lovely location

Colmer estate is well maintained and the indoor swimming is such a bonus out of season. Only downside on the location is that the roads between Modbury and A38 are so busy. The estate is teeming with wildlife. The owners are easy to contact and so helpful. Many thanks to them

Great family holiday

An excellent location with a great variety of activities to keep my teen age son engaged. The service was top class and very professional and I would certainly be looking to book a cottage here again in the future

We are a family of 4 who enjoy the outdoors. With relatives living in Modbury, we have enjoyed visits to the South Hams area for many years. The cottage is just 2 hours drive away from our home in Frome, Somerset where Sarah works as a physio and I work as an Engineer. We love going to the cottage ourselves and love the Colmer Estate and the beautiful South Hams area of Devon - we hope you will love it as well.

Why they chose this property

We weren't even looking to buy a holiday home in April 2015, when we saw the details for Gate House West in an estate agents window, whist waiting for pasties from the adjacent deli to be warmed up. We were intrigued, viewed the property, fell in love with the potential of what we saw, and just three months later were the new owners. Why did we fall in love with it? Well, as you can see from the pictures, it was impossible for a family that loves swimming, tennis and peace and tranquillity not to! By April 2016 we had completed a major refurbishment and redecoration of the cottage. We are really pleased with the result and we are sure that you will be too!

What makes this property unique

Excellent on site communal facilities shared by just a handful of guests. The pools and tennis court were the main attractions for us plus the location, making it our ideal bolt hole.
