Relax on the front porch swing. Train watchers are within easy walking distance (2 blocks) of the train watching platform, as well as the Train Museum in downtown Folkston. The Okefenokee Swamp, is a short 8 mile drive where you can enjoy scenic views and see a variety of wildlife (including alligators). Take a guided boat tour of the swamp or rent a boat and tour the swamp at your own pace. You can also enjoy the raised boardwalk through the swamp and climb the tower at the end for an expansive view of the swamp. An informative visitor's center will educate you and your family about the swamp and its wildlife.

More than we imagined

Reluctant to tell how good this cottage is in case it's not free the next time we want to book it! Much nicer than we imagined it would be, Azalea Cottage is in a great location, has all you need for a few days or a longer stay. And if you are into railways it's just a couple of minutes walk to the Funnel viewing area.

Good location for exploring Okefenokee and Folkston

We enjoyed our stay at this property and highly recommend it. It was the perfect set up for us to use as a home base to explore the Okefenokee Swamp (east park access). The kids also enjoyed walking over to the Folkston Railfan park and exploring the town. It was super easy to walk to restaurants and train viewing platform. It is a lovely, sleepy little town. The house was very clean and comfortable. It is old but you can tell it has been well maintained and loved over the years and has updates where needed. We loved hearing the trains go by at night but expect to get woken up by them or the noise from the road the house sits on occasionally if you are a light sleeper.
