Overall property was generally ok. Property was very dated and generally appears not looked after or kept up to date. Many of the installations and connections for example would fail to meet 'Health & Safety' requirements in this country. Many of the sockets are hanging off walls and in fact very dangerous. Owner was pleasant and put himself out to help. What did surprise us though and was a great shame. Half way through holiday we were made aware of a cleaning cost on leaving or option to clean ourselves. We had every intention to leave the property as found but nowhere in 'HomeAway' site is this detailed. It almost felt it was sneakily being added as a subsidy to rental already paid. After arriving at a dated and at best basically cleaned property from outset a surprise request. In fact at one point in stay we had to clear a blocked shower plumbing by removing numerous amount of historic tenant hair, not pleasant. On leaving property a two hour cleanse nevertheless put the property in a better position than when arrived. You can imagine our surprise therefore when the owner claimed not clean enough post our leaving and deducted automatically from deposit left with no further consultation and what appears before we even boarded a plane !! In summary this appears a classic scam to charge a tenant a cleaning cost to subsidise the rental. I don't think owner had any intention not to deduct this from outset. We had no recourse and deposit automatically allowed to be deducted by 'HomeAway'. Not very transparent on their part. A warning to any future potential tenant. A great shame … as I say owner very hospitable and helpful to that point.
