Our 4* QiT rated self catering Farm cottages have provided numerous escapes for city dwellers ,friends and family alike for over 40 years.

Throwley is an ancient settlement farmed by 3rd generation Richardson family.

On the estate is the ruin of Throwley Old Hall, now an ancient scheduled monument with public access.

Throwley Moor Farmhouse is 4 star rated by Quality in Tourism, and is on our working farm of sheep and beef cattle.

The spacious C.19th Farmhouse is built of local limestone and is in a private idyllic location 1/4 mile from the road with walking and cycling from the door.

For those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life this farmhouse is popular for families and reunions, offering easy access to local Peak District attractions and outdoor pursuits. Attractions include ALTON TOWERS & SPLASH LANDINGS (15mins),

SAILING at nearby RUDYARD & CARSINGTON also offering mountain biking and windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, power boating and fishing. HORSE RIDING at TISSINGTON and FLAGG.

Stately homes of CHATSWORTH, HADDON HALL and National Trust properties including ILAM COUNTRY PARK await your discovery.

A car journey over the Moors or White Peak, will take you to the Market town of BUXTON (30mins) which is renowned for its Spa water, Pavillion Gardens and Opera House with live shows and annual Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in July.

Go Karting, Underground caverns ( including the only mine of the famous Blue John mineral).

The market town of ASHBOURNE (15mins), with its Georgian architecture, cobbled market place and wealth of high quality independent shops and restaurants makes a nice trip out.

BAKEWELL (30mins) has a weekly livestock market and a lively open air market on Mondays. A visit to the famous BAKEWELL PUDDING shop is a must!

MATLOCK (30mins) has a range of visitor attractions including Peak Railway, Adventure Farm, vintage and antique shops,

MATLOCK BATH, built along the banks for the River Derwent, is popular for its annual Illuminations where dressed boats float along the river Derwent at Weekends from August Bank holiday through to the October half term, providing a pleasant evening out for families.

GULLIVERS KINGDOM, CABLE CARS & PARK, provide family fun.

Downstream is CROMFORD MILL & MUSEUM once at the heart of the Industrial Revolution

The POTTERIES of STOKE ON TRENT (30mins) include Emma Bridgwater, Wedgwood and Moorcroft have visitor centres.

BURTON UPON TRENT (40mins) famous for its breweries has the Bass Museum.

UTTOXETER - (25mins) for Horse Racing, Cinema and Bowling,

LEEK (20mins) for its Mill Heritage and Antiques.

The Farmhouse is ideally situated for those who love to explore the outdoors, with some of the Peak Districts finest walks straight from the door, including a popular footpath linking the Manifold Valley and Dovedale with its famous Stepping Stones and Thorpe Cloud.

For the cycling enthusiast the Manifold Valley, Tissington Trail, High Peak Trail and Monsal Trail offer safe off road cycling for families, with cycle hire available on these trails.

The local villages offer traditional pubs and dining, the Okeover Arms at Mappleton accepts walkers, children and dogs, The Old Dog at Thorpe accepts walkers and dogs also. The picturesque local village of Ilam is 2 miles away, with its houses and schoolhouse designed in a Swiss Chalet style, it is also the gateway to Dovedale. Ilam Hall is now a Youth Hostel within the grounds of Ilam Country Park.

After discovering the thrills of the Peak District guests can return to the farmhouse and relax in front of the open fires, or enjoy the summer evenings out in the garden listening to the birds evensong.

The entrance hall has a wooden floor with carpeted stairs leading to 4 bedrooms: 1 double 4 poster with wc & wash basin, 1 double + 2 singles, 1 double + 1 single and 1 room with 4 singles.

Downstairs is a large games/tv room, another large siting room, kitchen/diner with pantry and laundry room with shower & wc off.

At the rear is an enclosed yard with coal/log store & views to the northern hills and small farm yard.

At the front of the Farmhouse is off road parking for up to 6 cars (max), south facing patio, benches & bbq with a large level lawn accessed by 3 steps ideal for family games. The garden has an abundant birdlife and a birdbath in the garden attracts many species.

All linens, power, heating, fuel, cots and highchairs are provided.

*Well behaved pets are welcome at an extra charge of £10 each. Pets and children must be supervised at all times.

About Mrs Sue Richardson

The Richardson Family have lived and farmed here since 1947. After raising my family I now personally manage the holiday accomodation, whilst husband Philip and sons James & Tom, run the farm.

We love to have visitors to the farmhouse as we like to share our wonderful location with others.

We are happy to give advice on walks or what to visit and do.

This is a unique location for exploring the Peak District. The Large farmhouse sleeps up to 13, and Throwley Cottage can also be booked to provide additional accommodation for 7 people. This cottage is situated just across the field from the farmhouse accommodation accessed by a lane.

We are located in a beautiful RURAL area providing a peaceful and quiet break or many varied pursuits, active or not so active, which include ALTON TOWERS, Stately homes including CHATSWORTH, HADDON HALL, GAWSWORTH HALL (with its Outdoor Theatre in the summer) and NATIONAL TRUST properties of ILAM COUNTRY PARK, LYME PARK, HARDWICK HALL, SUDBURY HALL and CALKE ABBEY.

For WALKING and CYCLING, the Manifold Valley (the River Manifold runs mainly underground and access to THORS CAVE), Tissington Trail and High,Peak Trail (former railway tracks) are nearby providing miles of off- road enjoyment.

An extensive network of public FOOTPATHS provide access to our especially beautiful scenery linking up to rural villages and traditional English PUBS. The famous limestone gorge of DOVEDALE and its STEPPING STONES across the River Dove is near the villages of ILAM and THORPE.

Local market towns of ASHBOURNE and LEEK have antique shops as well as independent and high street shops and restaurants; BUXTON (with its Opera House and Spa waters is a must), MATLOCK and BAKEWELL (of Bakewell Pudding Fame!) are well worth a visit too.

For the RAIL enthusiast the Ecclesbourne Valley, Churnet Valley and Peak Railways are nearby offering trips with themes such as Afternoon Tea, Suppers and Nostalgia events.
