Fantastic villa, outstanding views, delightful owners, exquisite meals and wonderful cooking lessons.

  • 5 of 5

Six of us-three couples from way back when, shared this fantastic villa for a reunion. Two from Scotland, two from Virginia and two from Canada. We were all blown away by the experience, so to satisfy three couples from three different countries tells a story. Fonzi and her husband could not have done more to make us feel welcome, give advice and cook the most delicious breakfast and evening meal when asked. One of us required dairy free/gluten free food and Fonzi baked fresh for her each morning the most delicious cake and pastries that we all enjoyed!!

There are two excellent and well priced local restaurants, Florence is no distance away with all it has to offer but the views from the villa really make you want to stay there. There is a large swimming pool and lots of room to lounge around it and take up the sun.

Highly, highly recommended.

Treated Like Family

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six spent a few days in October with Enzo and Fonsi at their wonderful hilltop villa outside of Florence. We could have easily spent another few weeks with these accommodating hosts and their sweet dog, Pedro. The grounds and views were simply beautiful, restful, perfectly maintained and offered a true country-casual respite when we returned from our day treks to Florence. Enzo and Fonsi helped us find a perfect parking area and bus stop to leave our car - 20 minutes drive down the hill from the villa - where we felt like true Italians commuting to work without the hassle of driving into the city. We enjoyed delightful, authentic dinners and breakfasts that were so flavorful and different than anything we had eaten so far. We took a cooking class and learned how to make pasta and biscotti from scratch and an amazing traditional Tuscan stew. Fonsi's cucina was out-of-this-world with amazing tools (ice cream maker, pizza oven, restaurant grade stove, cappuccino machine, cooler to name a few). She believes in healthy, organic cooking and grows all her own herbs, veggies and has chickens for eggs. Nothing makes you think more of the country than hearing the rooster in the morning! We loved Enzo's homemade olive oil and Fonsi's pepper marmalade, too. We all could have eaten the ravioli gnudi morning, noon and night!! But our visit was about much more than just food - although a definite highlight - it was a just as much about feeling like one of the family from the moment we got out of our car on arrival. These lovely people genuinely enjoy hosting their guests and opening their hearts and their home unconditionally to those who visit. Without hesitation we will be back for even a longer visit in the future. Spero di vedervi presto cri amici.

The country house and owners are wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week with Fonzie and Enzo at their lovely appointed country house, Il Faeto. They did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and pleasurable. Fonzie even met us in San Donato and led us to the grounds on the top of a mountain. The view was gorgeous of the valley and villages below. There was a glass table on the grounds that overlooked the valley. We often had afternoon cocktails there. On several occasions Enzo made us Aperol Spritzers while we surveyed the view. While the drive to the home is narrow and steep we quickly got used to it. In fact the younger adults walked down the 1 1/2 mile road to the village for exercise. There is a lovely garden with fig trees on the property, a nice swimming pool with an outdoor shower and an area that the children could play Foosball. Our grandsons ages 6 and 9 loved playing in the pool and eating figs from the trees in the yard and everyone of us loved Fonzie's cooking which was ever bit as good as any we had in Florence. Fonzie would cater to whatever we enjoyed including fresh fish, fried zucchini blossoms, pastas, and a wonderful assortment of meats. The only problem was trying to eat every course of those delicious dinners. The dinners also included local wines and beer if we desired. Fonzie even gave the boys a lesson in cooking pizzas and making tiramisu while the adults drank prosecco. The pizzas were then topped by the boys and placed in a wood burning pizza oven in an area just above the house. We especially loved getting to know Fonzie and Enzo and their old dog Pedro. The drive into Florence is a bit tricky but with a GPS and after driving in a couple of times it presented no big problem. We would highly recommend this property.

WOW - I can not say enough good things about the villa and Fonsii and Enzo.

  • 5 of 5

I can not enough good things about our stay at the Villa. If you are looking for a true Italian experience, this is the place for you. My family spent 4 days at the villa. 4 adults and 2 kids (9 and 12) in August 2016. You will feel like you are visiting family when you are at the villa. Fonsi and Enzo are amazing hosts, and Pedro their dog was an added treat for my kids. The villa is nicer than the photos, and the lay out is perfect for a larger group. There are 2 apartments in the villa. There is 1 villa with 1 bedroom, and the other separate apt, has 3 bedrooms. Each apt has a full kitchen if you want to cook. We went to the store and bought food for lunch and breakfast. We had Fonsi cook several meals for us, and they were the best we had during our 2 week trip through Italy. Fonsi even gave my 12 year old a cooking lesson with her mother. If you are looking for a villa, I highly urge you to book this one. You will have the ultimate Tuscan experience. You are in a beautiful area overlooking some of the nicest scenery you could imagine. You are 20 min from Florence if you should want to go visit the city. We came to the villa after running the kids around Florence and need to unwind. The pool was beautiful and was a perfect way to relax before heading to Venice for more running around. We will miss Fonsi and Enzo and hope to return for an even longer stay next time.

A wonderful holiday home

  • 5 of 5

Il Faeto is built high on a hill and looks out across the valley floor to hills beyond (with amazing sunrises). The house is set in enchanting gardens and the pool area is extremely peaceful and a perfect mix of sun and shade. The accommodation is charming with carefully chosen antique pieces and lovely soft furnishings. The additional one-bedroom house was perfect for my mother. We were a twenty-minute drive to Florence and well positioned for sightseeing in Tuscany but I've saved the best for last: Fonsi and Enzo, the owners, are an absolute delight. Two warm, caring, generous people who quickly felt like old friends and who it is a very real pleasure to know! We knew that Fonsi could cook from previous reviews so after sampling a superb meal on our first evening, we indulged again and again (and I should mention I'm a fussy gluten-free vegetarian and I ate like a queen). The children were in raptures at the superb pasta, the succulent meat courses, and the homemade icecream. Breakfast is also highly recommended (fruit, eggs, cakes and pasties, etc). Oh and I almost forgot the wonderful Mr Pedro, the adorable boxer dog who stole all our hearts. Top recommendation from us...we will be back! I don't think I've ever come back from a holiday as rejuvenated!

Excellent villa, awesome Tuscan hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Alfonsina (Fonzi) and Enzo are owners of Villa Il Faeto, we booked it through Tomasso the property manager. The villa is set amongst the Florentine hills about 20 minutes south of Florence. It is well located of the autostrade and has beautiful views of the valley and hills. The property itself has abundant flowers, fruits (orange, lemons, etc) and several animals. The pool has a very resort like setting and is very refreshing during the hot Tuscan days. Fonzi and Enzo have a super adorable Boxer, Pedro. He was very loving and child friendly and my two year old daughter loved playing and petting him every morning.

The villa is very spacious and worked very well for our group of two families (4 adults and 5 children). There was plenty of space for us to spread out and the bathrooms were modern and very functional. Every morning we were woken up by the Tuscan alarm clock, the local rooster population.

However the highlight of our trip was Fonzi and Enzo's hospitality. Fonzi cooked elaborate breakfasts and dinner for us every night and Enzo opened up amazing bottles of Chiantis and was the perfect gentlemen host. Fonzi shared her family recipes with us and hosted a cooking class for us and our children. Each and every member of our group oohheed and aahhed once we tasted a bite of her food. During our trip we rarely ate lunch and simply opted for the best food in Tuscany, Fonzi's breakfast and dinner.

The list of her amazing food is endless but the highlights were:

- Mozzarella Tomato Bruschetta and sandwiches

- Freshly baked cakes, pastries and treats for breakfast every morning

- T-Bone stake, tuscan style - YUM!!!

- Home made pizza (4 different types) baked in their outdoor brick oven

- Numerous different types of pastas (pesto, tomato, etc)

- Phenomenal local cheeses, fresh cut meats including salami, prosciutto, hams

- All her deserts from homemade pineapple tiramisu, gelato, lemon cake, etc

We have amazing memories from our trip to Il Faeto and will remain in touch with Fonzi and Enzo. I know we will all be back, I know its going to be very soon. Thanks Fonzi and Enzo and please give a kiss to Pedro from his friends in Boston, USA. We miss you!
