About the property

4 bedroom, 3 bathroom farmhouse with large gardens and beautiful views

Le Prunier is a beautifully restored country house set in large gardens with views over the peaceful Dordogne countryside. Located in the tiny hamlet of Gresignac, the house is stylish, comfortable and welcoming - the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. There is a heated saltwater swimming pool which is in-ground and measures 10m x 5m. In summer, guests can soak up the sun from the terrace and gardens, while in the cooler months, central heating and wood burning stoves make for a warm and cosy ambiance.

Gresignac is just minutes away from the large village of Verteillac with its boulangerie, butchers, general store and choice of bars and restaurants. More bars, cafes and restaurants, plus high street shops and large supermarkets are in Riberac, a 20-minute drive away.

Originally a farmhouse, Le Prunier is a two storey stone built property with private gardens and terraces. Eight people can be accommodated comfortably and a cot is available for a baby. Duvets, bed linen, bathroom towels and bathroom essentials are provided and there are hairdryers in each room. There is wifi access throughout and a landline phone.

Furnishings throughout are of good quality, with a mix of period and contemporary pieces.

The house comprises:

•A large entrance hall with wood burning stove and seating area.

•A spacious and well equipped dining kitchen with freestanding cupboards, a SMEG duel fuel range cooker, a fridge freezer, combination microwave and a dishwasher. There is a Dualit toaster, an Ascaso espresso machine and coffee grinder, Le Sabatier knives and Le Creuset pans. The dining kitchen opens directly on to the rear terrace and garden.

•A laundry room with sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron. There is also:

•A separate WC with wash basin off the laundry room.

•A large salon with a spectacular limestone fireplace and wood burning stove, Le Corbusier seating and a large flatscreenTV for both English and French TV. There is a DVD player, a NAD stereo and an iPod dock. You'll also find a good selection of DVDs and books. The salon has French windows opening out on to the rear terrace and garden.

A spacious ground floor bedroom with adjoining bathroom. The bedroom opens on to the rear terrace and has a king sized bed. The adjoining bathroom has a bath, level access wetroom area with shower, wash basin and WC.

On the first floor, there is:

• A large mezzanine lounge area with flatscreen TV and views over the gardens and open countryside. The three first floor bedrooms and one of the bathrooms lead off from the mezzanine.

•Bedroom 2 has a king sized bed and looks out over the rear garden. A large adjoining bathroom has a shower, wash basin and WC.

•Bedroom 3 has a king sized bed and looks out over the front garden.

•Bedroom 4 has twin single beds and looks out over the rear garden.

•Bathroom 3 has a bath, wash basin and WC.

Outside

The house is surrounded by large gardens, with lawned areas and shady orchards with plum, apple, pear and cherry trees. A paved terrace has a gas BBQ and a large table and chairs for al fresco dining. There are sun loungers and a hammock for taking life easy. There is a heated outdoor satwater swimming pool which is in-ground and measures 10m x 5m. There is a table tennis table, table football, and a selection of adults and children's bikes for use by guests - this is a perfect landscape for cycling with quite lanes and gentle hills. In the nearby small village of Cherval (1.5km away) there is a free tennis court. Freshwater swimming and kayaking are available close by.

The ground floor of the house has level access throughout making the house welcoming for wheelchair users. A hoist and shower chair are available if needed and there is a manual pool hoist available, making the swimming pool accessible to wheelchair users.

Wow!! Amazing place with equally as amazing owners!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here as a family of 4 adults and 5 children of various ages. Immediately felt welcome and comfortable. The house has everything you could possibly need or want and the owners attention to details really creates a homely feel.

Peaceful area with a lovely little village down the road. Larger supermarkets etc about 20mins drive away.

Ed and Liz are lovely people who went above and beyond to make our stay a good one.

Don't hesitate to book, we cannot wait for our next visit :)

Summer in the Dordogne brings village festivals with communal meals at trestle tables. All around the region there are classical music concerts in Romanesque churches and live music at local bars and restaurants.

Gresignac is a great place from which to explore vineyards. Bordeaux, Bergerac and St Emilion are all near, with countless chateaux offering tastings and ‘vente directe’.

There are markets on most days in neighbouring towns and villages – well worth exploring for local produce and regional specialities.

There are outdoor swimming pools at nearby Verteillac, Riberac and Angouleme or child-friendly river swimming at Aubeterre or Lisle. 30-minutes drive away is Le Lac de Jemaye where you can swim, picnic and enjoy a long, cool drink at the lakeside bars. An hour and a half to the west are the fabulous beaches of the Atlantic coast.

You can cycle along quiet countryside lanes (we provide bikes), walk through stunning countryside and hire canoes and kayaks to explore the views from the rivers. There are tennis courts close by in the neighbouring village of Cherval.

For vibrant city life, Bordeaux is an hour and a half to the west, while closer to home Angouleme and Perigueux are well worth a visit for designer boutiques, galleries, restaurants and bars.

The famous caves of Lascaux and Rouffignac with their prehistoric paintings, are about an hour and a half’s drive away as are the magical towns of Sarlat, and Rocamadour. Closer to Gresignac at nearby Brantome, are the caves at the ‘Grottes de Villars’ and there is a monolithic church at Aubterre.

And then there are the bars and restaurants... There are great places to eat and drink in most nearby towns and villages, from bar-restaurants with prix-fixe menus to altogether smarter affairs. In Gresignac itself, La Ferme Gendron offers wonderful dining and a farm shop where you can buy farm produce and traditional Perigord specialities.
