About this property

Summer Harbor waterfront home with 580 feet of shoreline

Located on the scenic Schoodic Peninsula, Caddo North is a three bedroom, three and a half bath home that is perfectly situated to enjoy Maine’s stunning coastline with friends and family. With 580 feet of rocky, pink-granite shorefront, the property is truly spectacular. With such a large expanse, it is extremely diverse, offering multiple experiences. Twelve-foot tides make for a dynamic and changing coast such that the property takes on entirely different dimensions as the tides change, and yet the shorefront is always usable from the very lowest to the highest of tides. On the far north side of the property is a small sand beach, which allows for easy access to the water at high tide. The property then curves around a broad point, with large rocks that are above the high tide line and are suited for sunbathing or picnicking. This area extends out at low tide, revealing a large expanse of shoreline with tide pools to explore. The middle portion of the property is composed of a small rocky beach that extends as the tide recedes. This area is sheltered by larger rocks to the left and right of it, almost making you feel like you are in Acadia National Park itself. The property extends out into what we call “the point”; a small bluff which sits around 5 - 15 feet above the water, depending on the tide. A short path from the house extends directly to the point and there are Adirondack chairs allowing you to enjoy it at any time of the day; it’s perfect for morning coffee, wildlife and lobster boat watching, and spectacular sunsets. Finally, the property continues for another 200+ feet in a rocky descent, characteristic of the Maine coast. In addition to the shoreline the house sits on 4 acres of land that has wooded areas as well as blueberry and raspberry bushes – perfect for picking when in season!

The house itself, modern yet still cozy, is two stories and the layout is perfect for families or multiple guests. On the main floor you will find an open floor plan containing a living area with a large granite, wood-burning fireplace, both a formal dining area and a breakfast nook, a fully equipped kitchen, and a sunroom--all of which, along with the long deck just outside, offer great views of Frenchman Bay. We are often able to spot seals, porpoises and bald eagles directly from the house. Also on the main floor is the master bedroom (accompanied by a full bath), which has both north and west views of the water as well as a remote controlled gas fireplace for cozy evenings and mornings. The downstairs area contains the guest suite, which has its own full bathroom as well as a sitting area. A second guest bedroom has two twin beds with access to another full bathroom. In between the two rooms is a second common living area equipped with a flat screen TV. All rooms on the lower level, with the exception of the bathrooms, face Frenchman bay. The house also has a utility room with washer and dryer on the lower level, and a half-bath on the main level.

Caddo North sits directly on Frenchman Bay and offers views of Ironbound, Jordan, and Stave Islands, as well as parts of Mount Desert Island (MDI). The house is a ten-minute drive to the entrance of Acadia National Park at the Schoodic Peninsula; the only part of the park that is on the mainland. This portion of the park is less crowded than its larger sibling on MDI and offers ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and enjoying the beautiful rocky coastline (bike rentals are available outside of the park). It's also ten minutes to the center of the quaint village of Winter Harbor, which offers galleries and restaurants as well as a grocery store and opportunities to buy fresh lobster. An hour's drive (or 30-45 minutes by ferry) brings you to Bar Harbor and all the opportunities and activities (shopping, dining, boat tours, exploring larger sectors of Acadia including Cadillac Mountain, and so forth) that this tourist destination has to offer. In addition to Acadia National Park there are also numerous biking, hiking, fishing, canoeing, and swimming opportunities within 30 – 60 minutes of the house. These include the Down East Sunrise trail, Donnell Pond reserve, Schoodic and Black mountains, Lamoine State Park and numerous freshwater lakes and ponds. The location truly allows you to enjoy all that Down East Maine has to offer!

A little piece of heaven
We just left Caddo North and had the most wonderful holiday. The house is even better than we expected. So light and open with views over the bay. Inside we had everything we needed. I was able to bake and cook for us and didn’t want for any kitchen utensils. The beds are very comfortable and everyone pretty much had their own bathroom/toilet (we are a family of 4). We enjoyed having our morning coffee out on the rocks at sunrise and sitting on the balcony watching the sunset over the bay. We watched seals, bald eagles, chipmunks, humming birds and a variety of seabirds in the bay. If you didn’t want to leave the house you could have a very chilled holiday right there. In the surrounding area there is plenty to do - bike hire at Acadia, hiking, boating, lots of lobster eating and whale watching. We actually drove to Campobello and watched humpback whales from the shore! Hilary was super helpful if we needed anything and sent me lots of information before we got there so we could plan a few activities. I highly recommend Caddo North!

Perfect Downeast Maine Family Gathering Home
Spectacular Downeast home with everything you need and beautiful views. If you’re looking for an authentic Downeast location, this is your home. Watch the lobsterman pull traps and seals swim/feed. Then there are the sunsets which are spectacular. We love visiting the quieter areas of Acadia which gives you more of a pristine view of the park.

Awesome Property
The property was fantastic. The house was perfect for me, my husband, kids and their spouses. It was clean and fully stocked with everything imaginable. I've never stayed at a rental like this. It was only about 40 minutes from Acadia but we did not mind to go to hustle bustle and then come back to this oasis with the most beautiful back yard and view.

Perfection on Maine’s coast.
Caddo North exceeded our wildest expectations - it is indeed as wonderful as it looks. The location was absolutely gorgeous, as was the home. The bay was so peaceful and abounded with wildlife (bald eagles, seals, etc.) - we loved sitting in the adirondack chairs for most of the days. Gouldsboro was a great base for our coastal adventures, from Bar Harbor to Lubec, and far removed from tourist crowds. The house itself was spotless, with all amenities we could possibly have needed for relaxing, birdwatching, cooking meals, and catching up on some good books. We fell in love with Maine (and Dunbars grocery) and look forward to returning one day. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous home and lovely piece of Maine.
