About the property

Set in the historic grounds of Newstead Abbey

Stay in our Gardener’s Cottage at Newstead Abbey and you’ll be walking in the footsteps of the classical romantic Poet, Byron and enjoying the same stunning park vistas and surrounding countryside that truly inspired him.

Built in the 1860s by the Webb family, the Gardener’s Cottage is situated in heart of the Abbey grounds and is just a few minutes’ walk from many of the parks’ unique features, including the Abbey, Byron’s own Fort and stunning lakes.

Nestled amongst mature trees and shrubs and overlooking the original Rose Garden, this charming Grade II listed building has been sensitively restored to a very high standard, whilst still retaining some of the building’s original features, including wooden floorboards, floor tiles and beautiful stone mullion windows. The interior design has been influenced by rooms in the House and Abbey, which are also well worth a visit during your stay.

The cottage sleeps up to six people and has two double bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and the other with a “zip and link” super king which can become two singles if required. Off the landing there is a family bathroom with bath and separate “drench” shower cubicle.

Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen with all modern amenities with a utility room housing a washer/dryer, along with a comfortable lounge and separate dining room with deluxe sofa bed. Accessed from the kitchen is your very own private walled courtyard, just perfect for an alfresco breakfast or relaxing with a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing.

The cottage is available for week long, weekend and mid-week breaks and is perfect for exploring the wealth of history and culture that the Robin Hood’s county has to offer and is also available to hire for pre and post ceremony accommodation for our happy couples who marry at the Abbey.

Our changeover days are Monday and Friday, we accept bookings for weekends (Fri - Mon), mid week (Mon - Fri) and full week (Fri - Fri or Mon - Mon).

We were very well looked after by the friendly staff of the Abbey. The cottage itself has all that you need and is finished to a high standard. It is well located for exploring the area too. We had a very enjoyable stay and will probably come back again in the future.

The Gardener's cottage was an excellent place to stay if you need some peace and quiet. It offers beautiful grounds to explore in addition to a charming and well appointed cottage. One of the best parts of the stay was walking from cottage to cafe through the gardens for coffee in the morning.

Highly recommended for the purposes of detoxing from stress!

We were made most welcome and felt well looked after.

Would highly recommend the cottage for anyone needing to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living.

Close to Nottingham with good train and bus services

There is much wildlife to share the grounds of Newstead Abbey with. During the day the grounds are guarded by the geese and swans and patrolled by the peacocks and peafowl .We were lucky enough to see the peacocks fantastic tail feather display .During the evening the rabbits and squirrels are out and about with flashes of the stoat nipping around

But the highlight of the holiday was Freddie the abbey cat who visited us twice a day. He is is much loved by all the staff and he knows how to work the visitors who walk through the grounds. He was the perfect host and certainly made our stay very special
