Overview

About the property

Set in the historic grounds of Newstead Abbey

Stay in our Gardener’s Cottage at Newstead Abbey and you’ll be walking in the footsteps of the classical romantic Poet, Byron and enjoying the same stunning park vistas and surrounding countryside that truly inspired him.

Built in the 1860s by the Webb family, the Gardener’s Cottage is situated in heart of the Abbey grounds and is just a few minutes’ walk from many of the parks’ unique features, including the Abbey, Byron’s own Fort and stunning lakes.

Nestled amongst mature trees and shrubs and overlooking the original Rose Garden, this charming Grade II listed building has been sensitively restored to a very high standard, whilst still retaining some of the building’s original features, including wooden floorboards, floor tiles and beautiful stone mullion windows. The interior design has been influenced by rooms in the House and Abbey, which are also well worth a visit during your stay.

The cottage sleeps up to six people and has two double bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and the other with a “zip and link” super king which can become two singles if required. Off the landing there is a family bathroom with bath and separate “drench” shower cubicle.

Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen with all modern amenities with a utility room housing a washer/dryer, along with a comfortable lounge and separate dining room with deluxe sofa bed. Accessed from the kitchen is your very own private walled courtyard, just perfect for an alfresco breakfast or relaxing with a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing.

The cottage is available for week long, weekend and mid-week breaks and is perfect for exploring the wealth of history and culture that the Robin Hood’s county has to offer and is also available to hire for pre and post ceremony accommodation for our happy couples who marry at the Abbey.

Our changeover days are Monday and Friday, we accept bookings for weekends (Fri - Mon), mid week (Mon - Fri) and full week (Fri - Fri or Mon - Mon).

Lovely comfortable cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely cottage, lovely decor and very comfortable (beds very good). Fabulous location, scenery and walks. We wished we had stayed for longer to explore a lot more in the local area. We wouldn't hesitate to comeback and would highly recommended it to anyone else.

Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! From the warmest of welcomes at the gate on arrival, to the reluctant goodbye as we left, everything was perfect! This truly is an escape! Pure bliss, a real wonderland of a get away! We had both glorious sunshine and rain during our stay, but both provided adventure in the amazing grounds, stunning house and beautiful cottage! And the fact that we got to explore the beauty of the Japanese gardens (our favourite) and grounds, when the public had all gone, just made the stay even more magical! ALL of the staff made our stay so special, the charming chap on the front gate, the informative guides in the house, the shop and cafe staff and the grounds keepers - not forgetting of course Arthur (the peacock) seen in the mornings at the shop and Freddie (the cat) who would come and say hi and chill in the rose garden with us... I really didn't want to rejoin the real world! We will most definitely be back! Thank you for an amazing stay!

Delightful period property

  • 5 of 5

Delightful period property, very tastefully renovated with all the mod cons that are required for a comfortable stay. It is surrounded by the beautiful grounds of Newstead Abbey which you can enjoy all by yourself once the daily visitors have gone. Stroll around, listen to the birdsong and allow your cares to melt away.

fantastico

  • 4 of 5

tutto veramente perfetto, posto incantevole, grande efficienza dello staff, massima tranquillita.

residenza con tutti i confort.

forse l'unica cosa che manca veramente è una connessione wi-fi, della quale nel 2017 purtroppo non si può fare a meno.

Owner's Response: Hi Luigi, Great to hear you enjoyed your stay. It truly is a very special, quiet spot in the grounds and is the perfect place to get away from the modern world. Sorry about the WiFi, but its in such an isolated spot we cant get Wifi to it. There is Wifi near the main Abbey building however, but its a wonderful opportunity to have a total break from the electronic world we live in... Kind Regards....

Lovely cottage in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We were very well looked after by the friendly staff of the Abbey. The cottage itself has all that you need and is finished to a high standard. It is well located for exploring the area too. We had a very enjoyable stay and will probably come back again in the future.

Beautiful and quiet

  • 5 of 5

The Gardener's cottage was an excellent place to stay if you need some peace and quiet. It offers beautiful grounds to explore in addition to a charming and well appointed cottage. One of the best parts of the stay was walking from cottage to cafe through the gardens for coffee in the morning.

Highly recommended for the purposes of detoxing from stress!
