About the property

Set in the historic grounds of Newstead Abbey

Stay in our Gardener’s Cottage at Newstead Abbey and you’ll be walking in the footsteps of the classical romantic Poet, Byron and enjoying the same stunning park vistas and surrounding countryside that truly inspired him.

Built in the 1860s by the Webb family, the Gardener’s Cottage is situated in heart of the Abbey grounds and is just a few minutes’ walk from many of the parks’ unique features, including the Abbey, Byron’s own Fort and stunning lakes.

Nestled amongst mature trees and shrubs and overlooking the original Rose Garden, this charming Grade II listed building has been sensitively restored to a very high standard, whilst still retaining some of the building’s original features, including wooden floorboards, floor tiles and beautiful stone mullion windows. The interior design has been influenced by rooms in the House and Abbey, which are also well worth a visit during your stay.

The cottage sleeps up to six people and has two double bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and the other with two singles, which can be linked into a double,if required. A Sofa bed in the Dining room makes the other 2 sleeping places. Off the landing there is a family bathroom with bath and separate “drench” shower cubicle.

Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen with all modern amenities with a utility room housing a washer/dryer, along with a comfortable lounge and separate dining room with deluxe sofa bed. Accessed from the kitchen is your very own private walled courtyard, just perfect for an alfresco breakfast or relaxing with a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing.

The cottage is available for week long, weekend and mid-week breaks and is perfect for exploring the wealth of history and culture that the Robin Hood’s county has to offer and is also available to hire for pre and post ceremony accommodation for our happy couples who marry at the Abbey.

Our changeover days are Monday and Friday, we accept bookings for weekends (Fri - Mon), mid week (Mon - Fri) and full week (Fri - Fri or Mon - Mon).

Precious, Quiet, Away from it All

We had a wonderful time. Everyone who worked at the Abbey were very kind and solicitous - even gave us a ride with our luggage from the gates to the cottage! Thanks everyone!

Beautiful cottage and beautiful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was lovely and perfect for what we wanted. The welcome pack was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. Gardens would of course be more beautiful in summer but nether the less it was still beautiful. The location was great to explore local attractions. We would hope to visit again soon

Lovely comfortable cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely cottage, lovely decor and very comfortable (beds very good). Fabulous location, scenery and walks. We wished we had stayed for longer to explore a lot more in the local area. We wouldn't hesitate to comeback and would highly recommended it to anyone else.

Wow! From the warmest of welcomes at the gate on arrival, to the reluctant goodbye as we left, everything was perfect! This truly is an escape! Pure bliss, a real wonderland of a get away! We had both glorious sunshine and rain during our stay, but both provided adventure in the amazing grounds, stunning house and beautiful cottage! And the fact that we got to explore the beauty of the Japanese gardens (our favourite) and grounds, when the public had all gone, just made the stay even more magical! ALL of the staff made our stay so special, the charming chap on the front gate, the informative guides in the house, the shop and cafe staff and the grounds keepers - not forgetting of course Arthur (the peacock) seen in the mornings at the shop and Freddie (the cat) who would come and say hi and chill in the rose garden with us... I really didn't want to rejoin the real world! We will most definitely be back! Thank you for an amazing stay!

Delightful period property

  • 5 of 5

Delightful period property, very tastefully renovated with all the mod cons that are required for a comfortable stay. It is surrounded by the beautiful grounds of Newstead Abbey which you can enjoy all by yourself once the daily visitors have gone. Stroll around, listen to the birdsong and allow your cares to melt away.
