Superb location, wonderful owners and tranquil house
What a fabulous find this property is. I'm hesitating whether to share this secret with you!
The owners couldn't be more thoughtful or generous, even offering to cook us a meal on our arrival and baking local cakes, etc, and leaving us with other provisions.
You're right 'on' the beach here, with the most spectacular views of the lagoon and the mouth of the lagoon looking out to the sea. There's a boardwalk that takes you down to the beach (1 or 2 minutes walk to arrive on the sand). There's no road between you and the beach, which is wonderful. I can't walk far, but even this wasn't a problem as they have bikes in the garage - so I biked down to the beach! Perfect! You can also bike around the path around one side of the lagoon to the 'head' of the lagoon, where there's a cafe/restaurant and canoes and stand up paddle boards to hire. It's perhaps a 7 km round trip (I think).
The water in the lagoon is calm and warmer than the sea - although it's still fairly cool/cold. At low tide, small 'lakes' form, some of which you can swim in - or at least children can. The water in the lakes are a bit warmer. The beach is very sandy, everywhere - no pebbles.
A quiet place, with only one shop (limited stock, but manageable day to day. You might need to top up with a visit to one of the supermarkets near Obidos. Several cafe/restaurants, as well, and an ice cream stall near the beach.
You'll definitely need a car here (several car hire companies at Lisbon airport). It would be quite difficult to manage without a car.
The house and location are perfect for a quiet stay, based around the beach, perhaps a visit to pretty Obidos and to other seaside towns, perhaps doing a spot of canoeing or watersports. A very quiet and idyllic spot.
