About the property

Self catering cottage on 2 acre Andalucia Finca - 5 minute walk to village

Casa Rincon is a detached two bedroom cottage located on an a 2 acre Andalucian finca set on top of a hill with ancient terracing of almond trees and truly panoramic views of the surrounding village and mountains. The authentic Spanish village of Lubrin is just a short 5 minute walk to the main plaza.

The cottage has been renovated from old stables and is designed for 4 people with comfortable self catering accommodation. There is a living room, with well equipped kitchen, spacious double bedroom and full size bathroom. Outside has private open and covered terraces with BBQ, garden furniture and stunning mountain views which on a clear day, includes the Mediterranean which is about 12 miles away as the crow flies.

The landscaping in restful and relaxing and is the ideal holiday for solace and tranquility and an unforgettable experience of Spanish mountain hospitality, from the delightful and charming villagers of Lubrin.

Lubrin Pueblo nestles high in the Sierra Los Filabres some 2000feet above the well known beach resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha which are just 45 minutes away. Lubrin is a small village of about 500 of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet. There are a number of Cafe/Bars that offer Tapas. Meson Molinos is a restaurant offering fine wines and a mouthwatering menu. Bar Lopez is located in Rambla Aljibe, which is one of the dozen or so hamlets in the Parish of Lubrin, where you can get a good wholesome 3 course Menu del Dias including wine for about 12 Euros

There are 3 Banks and the village shops include 2 Supermarkets, 3 Butchers, 3 Bakers (no Candlestick Makers!!) and an Ironmongers. You can buy anything from a pin to a Porsche( well not quite a Porsche). Market day is on a Wednesday when you can stock up with fresh fruit and vegetables on most days the fresh fish van comes up from the coast.

Life in Lubrin is a time warp and will remind us more senior citizens of an early childhood where family groups sit out on the streets on hot summer nights with children playing until the sun sets over the hill.

Where to go and what to do!

Lubrin is located about 1 hour cross country from Almeria Airport or 2 hours motorway/cross country from Alicante or Murcia Airports. The village is very Spanish and nestles high in the Sierra Los Filabres some 2000feet above the well known beach resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha which are just 45 minutes away.

The more Spanish resorts of San Juan Torres and Aquilas (to the North) and Carboneras, Agua Marga and San Jose ( to the South) are about an hour away. These Spanish resorts, in Summer, are very much less crowded, especially mid-week, than Mojacar and Garrucha.

Places of Interest include Cuevas de Almanzora for its cave houses and Tabernas for its magnificent Desert National Park. At Tabernas is a Westen Theme park on the site of the Clint Eastwood Movies!

The Cabo de Gata National Park is one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich coastal strips in the western Mediterranean and is the first Natural land and sea park in Andalucia. The drive takes just over an hour and the route down the mountain, via Nijar, is very dramatic. The park offers walks on marked trails and tracks amongst native scrub and grasses, amidst the scent of wild lemon balm and the distinctive aromas of curry plant and herbs. You are able to follow inland trails and coastline.

The ancient Andalusian city of Almeria (1 hour away)lies sheltered at the base of a bay, proudly dominated by the amazing Alcazaba, a huge Moorish citadel with three walled enclosures dating from 995. From the citadel visitors have a good view of the city’s most impressive and important Christian monument, the Cathedral, dating from 1524, designed more like a fortress than a church because of the need to defend it from pirate attacks. The Cathedral contains numerous art treasures, including a tabernacle dating from the 18th century, designed by Ventura Rodriguez. With its interesting medieval architecture, Almeria’s old town is a delight to stroll through with its tranquil squares, archways and colonnades. The city also has a fascinating archaeological museum and unique cave dwellings in the hillside above the old gypsy quarter.

The Alhambra in Granada is a very popular place to visit by our guests. It takes just 2 hours to drive to Granada along the Almeria to Sevilla motorway with stunning views. The motorway skirts around Granada and the Alhambra car park is easily accessed. There is a shuttle bus that takes you from the Alhambra direct to the Plaza de Nueva where it’s a short walk to the Cathedral and Royal Chapel.

About John Vincent

In 1998, after having a holiday home in the Costa Blanca, we visited Almeria to look for a more permanent home for retirement but away from the mass tourism. We stumbled on Lubrin and within the first hour, as we sat in Bar Molino with our wine and tapas variadas and we knew that we had found our Spanish pueblo. After lunch we walked through the narrow streets and observed the children playing “shop” with their cardboard counters and toys they no longer needed. Groups of neighbours were sitting outside the houses talking and fanning themselves to keep cool. It was evident that the family unit was strong and this fact is very important to the reproduction and maintenance of social order. We bought an old cortijo on a 1 hectare finca within a 5 minute walk of the centre of Lubrin. For the next 6 years we rehabilitated the building and converted the terraces into a series of terraced gardens with Almond, Olive and Pomegranate trees set in lawns with borders of Oleander and Grapevines. At the bottom of the land is a well which is now dry but fed a water deposit which we converted to a plunge pool.

John Vincent purchased this cottage in 1998

Why John Vincent chose Levante Almeriense

There are moderate self guided mountain walks and self guided cycling, from outside the main entrance into the surrounding mountains and ramblas. Imagine walking in the blissful quiet of the countryside and brushing through the rosemary, thyme and sage to release their heady perfume then ending up in the village for beer or wine and tapas.

What makes this cottage unique

La Casa Rincon est fidèle à la description. Nous avons tout apprécié : la maison, l'accueil par Boris et Bonnie, les amandiers, le village et les bars à tapas !

Nous reviendrons avec plaisir à Lubrin chez John.
