About the property

Cottage in Solva, Pembrokeshire, Wales - 10 minutes walk from the coastal path a

PANTEG FARMHOUSE COTTAGE is located in the picturesque village of Solva, with its unspoilt harbour and small accessible beach- just a ten minute walk from the cottage. Solva is found along the North Pembrokeshire coastline, between the cathedral city of St Davids and the rolling waves of Newgale beach. The village, built upon a tidal estuary, has a range of pubs and cafes serving good food, art galleries, as well as a pottery, a general store, and a post office. Solva is flanked by the stunning scenery and wildlife of the Pembrokeshire coastal path which is perfect for families to explore come rain or shine.

These two four-bedroom Pembrokeshire style cottages (BOATHOUSE COTTAGE is next door see cottage ID number 8160869) have been developed on the site of the original Panteg farmhouse incorporating existing buildings and recycling old stone. They have been built with close consideration to the principles of sustainable homes and include solar panels, heat source pumps, underfloor heating, and double entry wood burning stoves. Furnished with oak floors and stair cases and using a mix of antique furniture and contemporary pieces, the cottages have been finished to a high specification as well as having their individual character.

The decor is enhanced by local, original art work: soft furnishings by Seaforth Designs, fabrics by Vanessa Arbuthnott who credits her seaside designs from ‘many happy hours combing the beaches of Pembrokeshire and throws and rugs from Melintregwynt and Solva Wollen Mill.

The properties have outside bike/surfboard stores and good parking arrangements. On the spacious ground floor, there is a contemporary, stylish kitchen and dining area with a pine dresser and a farmhouse table that seats eight comfortably. The kitchen, with granite worktops, is fitted with an electric eye-level double oven, halogen hob, microwave, dishwasher, larder style fridge-freezer and wine cooler. From the kitchen is a slate floor utility room with washing machine, dryer and access to a wet room with shower and toilet.

The lounge area has comfortable sofas and arms chairs and a flat screen TV/DVD player. There is also a music system which plays CDs, iPhone 5s and radio; the internal speakers allow for music in the lounge and/or kitchen area. Guests are welcome to borrow books and films from the well stocked shelves. There is a central double entry wood burning stove that, along with the underfloor heating, heats the lounge and the sun room.

The sun room has a table with eight chairs as an alternative for dining and provides access via the bi-folding doors to a paved and lawn area with garden furniture. The ground floor has a spaciously light feel, with areas for mealtimes, entertaining, watching TV, quiet reading or board games.

Dec/January New Year 2016

Lovely house, perfectly placed and very generous with the Christmas/New Years hamper. Thank you very much for having us we will be back again!!!

December 2015- Christmas

This was my first visit to Wales and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I’ve fallen in love with your house, the area, the stunning views and the warm reception we’ve received from everyone we’ve met. Thank you Dolores and Frazer for making our stay so comfortable. All your thoughtful touches has set this stay way above anywhere else we have stayed and will guarantee a return for us . Frazer, you are one lucky man to have cakes and bakes like those made for us by Dolores….. they were delicious and were a welcome treat to come back to after some wintry, windy walks.

Don’t change a thing….. it’s perfect the way it is. Best wishes from us all

November 2015

What a find! Fabulous hospitality and an amazing view for our girls’ weekend. Cannot recommend it highly enough. We will be back.

November 2015

Three amazing days in this fantastic house and area. Enjoyed the hottest November day on record and walking the costal path in T shirts. We cannot speak highly enough about the welcome we received at Panteg farmhouse. Thank you for all your attention to detail. I am sure we will return sometime soon.

October 2015

What a stunning house. We have absolutely loved staying in Panteg Farmhouse. So beautifully furnished, well equipped amazing views.

The welcome hamper was fantastic and extremely generous. The kids loved the Hallow’een chocolates, pumpkins and ghouls. Lovely soaps, hand cream etc a really lovely touch. Thank you.

We enjoyed some beautiful coastal walks. Newgale to Solva (5½ miles) stunning but hard work with all the steps! St Davids to Solva (4 miles?) equally beautiful but much easier.

The Cambrian definitely worth a visit – gorgeous food (but very large portions!) So good we went twice.

Horse riding at Nolton Riding Stables was fab – riding along beautiful beach – definitely recommended.

October 2015

Thank you so much for such a wonderful week. We have loved staying in Panteg Farmhouse. The house is absolutely beautiful and the furnishings are stunning. This is a house we could happily live in for the rest of our lives! Thank you for all of the local goodies- such a treat!

We were lucky with the weather and the surf at Whitesands Bay was great. Walks on the coastal path, sandcastles and rock pooling on the beach, coffee at Café 35, Bishops Palace and the Cathedral and the Admirals Breakfast at Sound Café – what not to love!. We even ventured as far as south as St Govan’s head which is well worth a visit. What a wonderful week in Pembrokeshire for adults and children alike. Thank you.

October 2015

Where do we begin??. We are completely lost for words, your house is utterly beautiful, it exceeded all of our expectation. The thoughtful personal touches made us feel so welcome; being here was the whole package. The views, the village and surrounding areas were just perfect! We have fallen in love with this home and Solva. We will return for sure. We’re so sorry we didn’t get to actually met you. Thank you so very much, Dolores and Frazer.

September 2015

We have rented numerous houses throughout the country; this is by far the best appointed, furnished, designed and equipped. The standard fully justifies the prices charged. The personal little touches including the welcome hamper, flowers etc were very much appreciated by six adults. A very big ‘Thank you’.

September 2015

Our thanks for a wonderful stay in your lovely home. From the generous welcome hamper which we really enjoyed to the thoughtful touches throughout and the very high level of equipment and furnishings we found exceptional. We were very lucky with weather and were able to make a good use of Frazer’s folly on several evenings enjoying the beautiful sunsets.

Thoroughly enjoyed CWTCH* in St Davids and also the Cambrian (twice!) here in Solva. Found the cost path absolutely beautiful too a must for keen walkers. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. We’ll be back.

29th – 5th September 2015

We had a brilliant time guys. Panteg Farmhouse Cottage is perfect for a family break away from it all. I hope that they never improve mobile reception! Without the mobile for a week is such a relief! The Cambrian inn, cafe 35 on the quayside was good too. We discovered another gem in the part of the world we love the best.

22nd – 29th August 2015 Dolores and Frazer – you have thought of everything! All the little details are delightful from such a well-appointed cottage down to all the little extras like the wonderful hamper, prosecco and beautiful flowers in dainty vases dotted all over the house. We loved the views from the “lower” – bright moonlight evenings looking over the bay were very relaxing. Suzie loves her little teddy in her cot – thank you. A wonderful place to unwind and spend time with all the family.

15th – 21st August 2015

This has been the perfect house for 3 generations of family to stay together. Everyone was catered for and we all “loved” the hamper (especially the cakes and prosecco!!) We have never stayed in such a well catered holiday home. We were able to enjoy the garden & balcony for barbecues while the sun shone but were also able to make use of the games and dvd’s when it rained!! We love Solva and will hopefully be back – thank you both!

8th – 15th August 2015 We have had a wonderful week. The house is beautiful we have especially enjoyed having dinner watching the sunset & looking at the views. The boys enjoyed eating up at Frazer’s folly as much as we enjoyed the views and a glass of fizz up there. The hamper & prosecco was fab and much enjoyed – thank you. We are all a little sad to be leaving the house & solva. Solva itself it’s great & the lovely present you left for the boys has been put to great use. We hope very much to be back soon. Thank you! Oh and Gianni’s and the Cambrian were great suggestions as was the shed at porthgain.

1st – 8th August 2015

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home. You

About Dolores Davey

The Nicol family have had a property in Solva for over four decades and four generations have enjoyed the delights of this wonderful area. We have spent thousands of hours enjoying this beautiful place with our children, grandchildren, family and friends. Major events and rites of passage have been celebrated here from academic achievements, GCSEs, A levels and Degree successes to engagements, weddings and ‘significant’ birthdays.

Then there are just the every day events, a seaside picnic, and a walk along the coastal path or just sitting at the Quay reading a book. What make these ordinary things special is the extraordinary and beautiful surroundings.

Why Dolores Davey chose Solva

The whole of Pembrokeshire is an area of outstanding beauty and Solva is the most picturesque harbour in the county. There is so much to do for all ages and all year around. Whether it is beach activities, surfing and sailing or the beautiful walks and bird life of the coastal path there are plenty of outdoor activities. For those who like a more relaxing time there are art galleries, potteries and craft events galore to visit. But the beauty of this part of Pembrokeshire is it never feels over crowded or commercialised. Just perfect!

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottages have been developed and furnished to the highest standard of comfort and luxury. The sun rooms and outside space ensure that the cottages are light and airy in the summer and the under floor heating, wood burning stoves, make them cosy and inviting in the winter. We know that leisure time is precious and we want to ensure you have accommodation and facilities that contribute to a truly relaxing and memorable holiday

You will find our approach friendly and welcoming starting with a home-made cake in the tin and a bottle of Prosecco in the drinks cooler. Cheers!

Fantastic accomodation in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Solva is a beautiful place to stay and this cottage is a brilliant choice. The facilities are first class, the décor is lovely, the bedrooms and lounge areas are extremely comfortable and the welcome was as warm as it gets. 'Frasers folly' (the sun deck) is a beautifully constructed place to enjoy a coffee and a croissant in the morning as you look out over the entrance to Solva harbour. We would definitely return!

Location

Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and the Islands of Skomer, with the opportunity to see puffins and Ramsey Island host to one of the largest breeding colonies of Atlantic grey seals in the British Isles, not to mention the likelihood of seeing porpoises attracts visitors from all over the world.

There are opportunities to learn and take part in an array of water-based activities including sailing, surfing, kayaking and coastering. There are many opportunities for riding and trekking including beach riding.

In addition the land, seascape and light of Pembrokeshire attracts many artists.

Coast/Beach:

Within five minutes walk of Boathouse Cottage is Solva beach. At low tide it is a lovely walk which allows you to look back at Upper Solva with the Pembrokeshire coastal path at either side. At high tide it is a picturesque harbour with bobbing boats, kayaking and children crabbing. During the summer months Solva Quay is the setting for a variety of both children and adult regattas, with local and visitors encouraged to participate.

Travel:

Haverfordwest, approximately 11 miles from Solva is the nearest train and bus station. It is possible to make a connection from here all over the UK.

Fishguard is the nearest Port, with ferries to and from Ireland and is 14 miles from Solva.

Cardiff is the nearest Airport - 111 miles from Solva, although there is a small airfield at Haverfordwest, but this services private flights only.

Distances:

There are opportunities for surfing, kite surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding at both Newgale and Whitesands Beaches just four to five miles from Solva Cottage. Both beaches have surf schools, equipment for hire and cafes. It is not always necessary to take the car and in the summer months there is a comprehensive network of buses around St Davids peninsular. For example, the Puffin Shuttle and the Celtic Coaster are on the route to some of the most fantastic blue flag beaches.

Further Details:

Solva has all of the immediate amenities in terms of a well-stocked food store and post office, cafés and pubs. But in St Davids- three miles from Solva- you will find a range of shops and services including banks, a large supermarket, hardware store, butchers, delicatessen and numerous cafés. In addition the visitor information centre -Oriel y Parc. This is run by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Here you will find out what there is to see and what is going on. As well as the cafe, there is also a National Museum of Wales art gallery. The artist and painter Graham Sutherland had his roots here and there are frequent and changing exhibitions.

No trip to St Davids - the smallest city in Britain-would be complete without a visit to the St Davids Cathedral and the Bishops Palace.

St Davids Cathedral is one of the jewels in Pembrokeshire’s crown, attracting hundreds of thousands of people every year. The site is of obvious interest to Christian pilgrims but is also popular with other sightseers including photographers and walkers visiting the breathtaking St Davids peninsula.

Together with the neighbouring Bishop’s Palace, the Cathedral is a must-see for anyone visiting the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

The location of St Davids Cathedral, nestling almost hidden in a grassy hollow beneath the tiny city, adds to the very special atmosphere that most visitors feel when they come here.
