Large luxury self-catering rental with private pool, gas BBQ, Wifi, Apple TV box, large garden, fireplace and wonderful views!

Villa Emmanuelle is located in Banon between the Luberon and Verdon national parks with fantastic views over the beautiful Provence countryside. The area is a hiker's paradise with many trails.

Tastefully decorated in Provence character, with real fireplace, very large garden, large outdoor terrace areas and a private well maintained pool. Cathedral Ceilings with beautiful timber beams and a mezzanine looking over a very large living and dining area.

The villa has a covered terrace with a large second storey balcony. All mod cons with wireless high speed internet, hi-fi, quality flat screen TV and DVD with a large collection of DVDs and now Apple TV! Quality outdoor furniture provided and barbecue facilities. Two mountains bikes available for riding along the fields of lavender, wheat and flowers. Kids games incl. swings and bikes. Baby equipment incl. 2 cots, 2 high chairs, stairs gate, etc.

The Area: Banon is located in one of the most traditional areas of Provence. The town is located in the lower Alps set in a beautiful valley predominantly used to grow lavender and wheat fields. A town of only one thousand it nevertheless acts as a central hub for many little mountain villages and hamlets that all lie a short drive away and provide for many wonderful visits. The village has the second biggest bookstore in France and a great gastronomic restaurant Panturle and three other restaurants as well as a wine bar. It is also famous for its goat cheese wrapped in chestnut leaves.

Our villa is located along the same hill as the village and is less than one kilometre from its central plaza. Here you will find a full range of services including banks, post office, bakeries, cafes, butcher, small supermarket, news agency, video/DVD store, tourist information, restaurants and bars. Nearby the medieval town of Foucalquier with its beautiful narrow streets, Simiane a world heritage listed village, the very traditional Montsalier (where I was born pop. 63) with the three windmills on the climb to its ancient location. There are dozens of villages that will enthral with their deep history and beauty.

A serious Grande Randonnée, the GRP Tour de la Montagne de Lure, passes through Banon. A full loop (Banon, Sommet de Larran, Station de la Lure, Saint Etienne, Forcalquier, Limans, Banon) is over 60 km. A shorter loop (Banon, Sommet de Larran, Col de St Vincent, Saumane, Lardiers, west of Limans, Banon) is about 40 km.

dot West out of town, this trail then turns north and goes to the Sommet de Larran (1431 m), 15 km, turns east along the ridge and then loops south again.

There are also a lot of shorter hiking trails accessible directly from Banon, especially through the forested hills that run north. Following the GRP trail east across the valley, about 2 km, takes you into the hills of Les Chastellas and Les Mures where there are many little trails.

The Seasons: Spring - This is when the colours of nature quite literally burst into blossom. This is the time and place for artists to be painting and drawing. The temperature is moderate and the light is incredible (just ask Van Gough!).

Summer - This is the busiest season for the area and it seems that people are all out and about the whole time. The weather is wonderful being in the lower Alps and rarely gets very hot (above 35C) though still perfect for a dip in the pool.

Autumn - This is my favourite season. You get a wonderful lingering warmth in the area and the colours of the area become breathtaking as leaf season begins - the colours that vary between a deep earth red, fluorescent yellow and deep green provide a soul building pallet. Mid Oct/Nov is best for leaf season.

Winter - Time to cosy up to the fireplace. While Banon lies below the snowline nonetheless there will be a number of blanket white days that turn the area into a Christmas wonderland

Markets and Festivals: The markets in the area are just wonderful. Almost everyday there will be some market with specialist ones by little villages, such as antique fares, springing up all the time. Banon has a market in its town square on Tuesdays where you can find many of the local cheeses, olives, sausages, fruits and vegetables as well as a large variety of non food items. A short drive away two large markets occur on Monday at Forcalquier and Saturdays at Apt. These markets are immense and the variety, colours and many traditional Provençal products will keep you busy all day. Additionally there are quite a number of small local village markets . Festivals in the area almost happen every other day of the week. From the Cheese Festival of Banon in late May to the Melon Festival in Cavaillon, you will find festivals along almost every theme from antiques, artisan, apricots, farm equipment, the fire festival as well as many that simply celebrate the village. Nous sommes d'accord avec tout ce que Betty a dit. Banon n'est pas le plus central en Provence, mais il est unique... et tranquille. Apres Nice, c'est un changement vraiment agréable. J'ai appris a conduire sur les chemins étroits et plein de courbes. Et notre voiture de location n'a pas souffert.

La villa est bien équipée et probablement un peu grande pour deux couples. Mais c'est exactement comme décrit quand nous l'avons louée.

Merci a tous pour l'aide.

Traduction: we agree with everything that Betty said. Banon is not the most central location in Provence but it is unique ... and tranquil. After Nice, it is a very pleasant change. I learned driving on thin roads full of bends. And our rental car didn't even suffer.

The villa is well-equipped with everything and probably a bit large for two couples. but it was exactly as described when we rented it. Thank you to everybody for helping us.

A fantastic relaxing week was had by the whole family. The villa has every needed and was clean and tidy. Great hospitality from Gaby and Michele. Lots of interesting places to visit nearby and the pool provided a welcome relief from the sun! Thanks for a great week.

Beautiful Banon

Perfect for 2 families, we stayed with 4 adults and 3 children with plenty of room to spare. Very clean and tidy with excellent facilities. We had everything we needed and more!

Pool cleaned on a daily basis and the owner's friendly parents were nearby and checked to make sure we had everything we needed.

A beautiful area with stunning views from the Villa. Although a small market village, Banon has everything you need including; bakers, cafe's, bank, gift shops and a small supermarket. The old town is worth a walk around with it's medieval buildings and stunning views of the area.

We also visited the Gorges du Verdon; which was well worth the long drive. Forcalquier, Sault, Apt and Avignon are all worth a visit especially on market day.

Stunning views towards the Alps from Mont de Lure.

Villa Emmanuelle is an ideal location for experiencing the real rural France without being surrounded by tourists!

Would definitely recommend and hope to return soon.

Clean and well equipped Villa

We recently stayed at this property for 6 days with 4 adults and 4 kids and had a great experience. The villa is very clean and well maintained and it is equipped with any thing you may need. The dishwasher, laundry facilities, BBQ and Wifi were all great and most appreciated. The kids ages 8-13 loved all the board games, the yard and the pool. The Villa is located in the countryside and is nearby the lovely little village of Banon, which has most of what you may need. We found the location of the Villa was great, but you will need a vehicle. We did a lot of sight seeing and travelled to many of the other villages and markets in the area. We visited Sault, Gordes, Roussillon, Bedoin, Chateauneuf de Pape and Castellane. These ranged from 30 minute drives to 2 hour drives. We stayed in July and the lavender fields and markets were spectacular and all around.

We found the owner to be very nice to deal with and very prompt with any responses. The caretakers are nearby and very friendly.

Wonderful holidays

Nous avons passé un séjour très agréable dans la "villa Emmanuelle". On se sent immédiatement bien dans cette maison confortable, très chaleureuse et parfaitement équipée. La maison est très grande et on ne gêne pas (nous avons passé un séjour avec une personne âgée de 80 ans et deux enfants : la cohabitation s'est déroulée à merveille!) Le plus : une multitude de jeux et de livres pour les enfants et un vaste jardin avec balançoires. La maison est proche du joli village de Banon où il est possible de faire les courses, de boire un verre, d'aller au restaurant et de profiter d'une librairie étonnante... Bref, je vous recommande cette maison.

Very good

Beautiful setting, comfortable house

We were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and well-equipped the house was. Very nice decor and atmosphere too. The pool is great, along with well-kept garden and terraces, furniture etc.

We enjoyed having an early evening apero in Banon, a sleepy little village with a weekly market where it is easy to find all the supplies you might need for a week or two. Our drive from Switzerland to Banon was quite long so we were glad there was so much to discover within a short drive. The restuarants in the surrounding towns and villages are better than what's on offer in Banon.

Happy with the customer service, both online with the owner and with her parents who live in the village and were very helpful. There is also lots of detailed information available in the house on local attractions. Our visit to a local Abbey near Simiane-La-Rotonde which is famous for its gardens was a highlight, even for our young children who found it a magical place.

I would recommend this property to anyone. Ideal for families or a group of adults. Good selection of games and DVDs for kids.

Banon is centrally located between the Luberon and Verdon National Parks. The Medieval village has kept its authentic and natural character. Surrounded by lavender fields, wheat fields and hills subtly perfumed by local aromatic herbs, the village is a cacophony of bright colours. In the village, you'll discover a fortified medieval site with ancient doorways, sculptured lintels, and classified gateways.

Banon is a small village made famous by its tasty goats cheese delicately wrapped in a dried cedar leaves and tied with a raffia ribbon. Eaten with a good glass of red wine and fresh whole meal bread, difficult to resist! (... No, impossible) !.

It is also a hiker's paradise with many trails.

Nearby within an easy drive you will find many sites of interest including the Verdon Gorges a beautiful canyon with water sports, little colorado with its many coloured sand pillars and dozens of nature walks and activities. To the west lies the Luberon park with many picturesque villages. Avignon, AIX make for a wonderful day trips.

  • There is a main bedroom downstairs with a full en suite with a bath including a shower. The bed is a king size bed. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms. One has a king size bed and the other two twin beds. In addition there is a mezzanine with a double bed. The house is tastefully furnished with quality fittings. This villa is in exceptional condition and impeccably clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with all cutlery, pots and pans you could need with an ample supply of glassware so you are not washing all the time! All conveniences are provided including dishwasher and Microwave. Quality audio visual equipment provided including flat wide-screen TV, Hi-Fi and an international DVD player, which will play DVDs from around the world. Complimentary high speed wireless broadband internet access. A good selection of English and French Language DVDs and books are provided for your entertainment.
