The ground floor bedrooms (both with ensuites) would ideally suit anyone with WALKING DIFFICULTIES or restricted mobility, as there is only 1 step between all social rooms on the ground floor.

La Fleur de Lys is within 10 minutes drive of Saint Antonin Noble Val, a beautiful medieval town which, as well as being visually stunning, is also a fascinating place to explore. On a practical level, it has a bustling Sunday food market as well as bars and restaurants, two small supermarkets, a bank, post office, pharmacies, art galleries, and even a cinema with regular English films. As you would expect, it also has excellent bakeries and patisseries.

Most other nearby villages and towns also boast open air markets with an abundance of just about every kind of fresh local produce - including wine. Within just a short drive, you can find many vineyards and caves to sample the superb regional wines, perhaps most notably Gaillac. Some of the regular seasonal village fêtes and fairs are a treat too.

The Tarn is a beautiful and unspoilt region, where the relaxed style and pace of life can almost take you back in time. It is blessed with natural oak forests, rivers, gorges, valleys, rolling hills, architectural masterpieces (such as the many medieval bastide towns and chateaux) and an abundance of flora and fauna. There are also many awe-inspiring walks and panoramas. Even the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees are within reach for day trips. It is a holiday destination which can please all tastes, both cultural and gastronomic!

The house is situated close to the border of two departments (Tarn-et-Garonne and Tarn) and so is an ideal place from which to explore the different beauty of both.

Cordes-sur-Ciel (15 mins drive) is a breath-taking 13th Century bastide. For those with a pioneering spirit, a walk to the very top is well worth the effort for the views alone.

Gaillac (30 mins drive) is one of the oldest and most famous wine growing regions in France. The huge variety of wines from the area should please all tastes, and it is a fascinating area to explore.

Albi (40 mins drive) is the birthplace of the famous artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and with a superb museum holding hundreds of his works. Sainte Cecile Cathedral is a dominating architectural highlight. The town centre is a lovely place to spend a day in the cafes and restaurants.

A full days drive from the ferry ports - mostly autoroute and fast roads.

The nearest airport is Toulouse [TLS], just 1.5 hrs easy drive.

CAR IS ESSENTIAL - there is no public transport & taxis are expensive

OUT OF SEASON STAYS

Please contact us for details of rates for out of season dates.

There is a Jotul wood-burning stove in the kitchen & yet another in the dining room, along with under-floor heating on the ground floor.

About Jayne

My wife and I love the countryside and have travelled all over the world from Siberia Russia to Oklahoma U.S.A. Where ever we travel we always make time to explore the natural surroundings and indulge in our favourite past time, bird watching. This is what eventually led us to choose France as our permanent home.

We still travel and live abroad and will do for a few more years but Fleur de Lys will always be where our heart is.

Jayne purchased this house in 2010

Why Jayne chose Roussayrolles

After living near Paris for a number of years and travelling around France we eventually decided to make our permanent home in France and so the long search began.

For 3 years we wandered around the different regions and saw so many beautiful sights and properties but we were very particular about our requirements. The list of things we wanted in a property grew longer not shorter! We had a process involving lots of circles on the map and searching within the desired radius.

Eventually as we moved further South we visited the City of Albi and knew we were getting closer to our desired destination. The charm, the cobbled streets the markets, vegetable and antiques were an endless wonder.

From there we started to visit the smaller towns nearby and stumbled upon Cordes sur Ceil and St. Antonin Noble Val. We knew instinctively we were getting very close and a new circle went on the map that evening which included Cordes and St. Antonin.

The search started in earnest and we were so fortunate to meet with a wonderful estate agent who listened to everything we wanted and was very patient as we turned down property after property. We came down from Paris every opportunity we had.

Eventually one day as we were standing in the estate agents office we both saw the picture of Fleur de Lys. It was picture book perfect with the pink roses growing around the French windows, beautiful stone work and authenticity simply stated in its design and layout.

We could not wait to view. We were thankful that the house still showed its 250 year old history and very little had been modernized. This allowed us to add our personal touch and add home comforts where they were needed but keep the all-important character of the building

What makes this house unique

The benefits of staying at Fleur de Lys are many. First and foremost is the absolute peace, quiet and privacy you will experience for the duration of your stay.

The garden is nearly 5 acres of meadow land a beautiful safe environment for you and your children to enjoy. The wild flowers attract 15 different species of butterflies including the rare swallow tail. There is an orchard for you to help yourself to whatever you wish.

The pool is large and exclusively for your enjoyment. It is enclosed by a fence for safety and has a self-locking gate. For outside dining you have two different terraces to allow you to either chase the sun around the house or get out of the glare. Indoors you also have a large dining table in the unlikely event that it becomes too cold outside.

The nearest town is St. Antonin Noble Val which is known for its wonderful Sunday market and that two major Hollywood films have been made there.

It is just 10 minutes away and well serviced by supermarkets and two petrol stations. 15 minutes in the other direction is Cordes Sur Ceil which has been voted France’s most beautiful village several years running. Cordes Sur Ceil translates as ‘Town in the sky’ this a breath-taking phenomenon which we hope you are fortunate enough to see.

There is so much to say about this region it is truly beautiful and our home makes the perfect base for exploring or simply sitting back relaxing and taking an occasional dip in the pool. The best way to enjoy your vacation is to take your time whatever you do. Take in the sights and the sounds of a hidden gem that is Fleur de Lys.

Comfort, peace, and very well-equipped!

  • 5 of 5

We are staying in Fleur de Lys after travelling around Europe for nearly four months and staying in over 20 different holiday properties and B&Bs. Fleur de Lys is by far the most comfortable and well-equipped home we have experienced! The hosts have left no stone unturned in their efforts to make the property as accommodating as possible. The kitchen is by far the best stocked we have experienced, superior even to the German and Swiss kitchens we spent time in! The beds and linen are luxurious. There are many areas inside and out where people can enjoy relaxing with or others, or simply getting away from them! The pool is very clean and located in a private, peaceful part of the garden. After so long on the road, our dogs (who have travelled with us for the duration) thoroughly enjoy the property, as there is an incredible amount of outdoor space to explore. The property is conveniently located near the small village of Vaour, which has a very strong sense of community amongst its many French and multi-cultural residents. St. Antonin Noble Val, located less than 15 minutes drive from Fleur de Lys, is a splendid town with every amenity provided - doctors, chemists, clothes shops, fantastic restaurants and cafes, and the gorgeous Aveyron River, which is wonderful for canoeing and swimming. The area around Fleur de Lys is a walkers' paradise, with national footpaths just outside the door. I cannot recommend the property enough to anyone wishing to experience this part of beautiful, tranquil, rural south-west France, but without having to sacrifice the modern comforts and all of those things that make life a little bit better.

Lovely peaceful spot for a relaxing break

  • 5 of 5

The house is extremely well equipped, with a lovely new kitchen and enough bowls, pots and pans to cook for a family properly - much appreciated because it was such a pleasure to have a barbecue and sit looking at the garden in the evening. Plenty of comfortable indoor seating too for chillier days. The house and gardens were extremely well looked after and Steve the caretaker really helpful. The pool was great. We'd go back because we liked the house itself so much - but also because of its excellent location. The castles and towns & villages locally are really interesting. We particularly enjoyed Najac, Penne castle and St Antonin, which is the closest town and an absolute gem (it has a good Carrefour with an impressively well stocked butchers counter, as well as its medieval streets and buildings and a couple of really nice restaurants). There are lots of activities and facilities for outdoor types in the area - sadly my knees are no longer up the kayaking but it looked very tempting on hot days. A visit to Albi and the Toulouse Lautrec museum and cathedral (30-40 mins drive away) are a must. We have stayed in other houses elsewhere in the midi Pyrenees and Fleur de Lys is in an unbeatable location. Highly recommended.
