We are a large family (12, including a 6 month old and a 2 year old) that likes to travel together. Of the many amazing vacations we've enjoyed, our stay at the Coolcloger House was at the very top of our list. The website gives a mere suggestion of the delights that await Coolclogher guests. The home, minutes from Killarney, has been restored by its owners, Mary and Maurice Harnett, to its original glory, with beautiful antiques, exquisite wallpapers, and historic paint colors. The bedrooms are perfectly appointed, each with its own bath and vistas from every room to the Kerry countryside that are simply breathtaking. The beds/pillows are very comfortable, the linens fresh and white and crisp. The kitchen is very well outfitted, complete with a 6-burner Aga oven/range. There are several large gathering spaces, and multiple fireplaces, one of which was prepared for us every night. Yet, Coolcloger is not austere; every space is inviting and comfortable. We felt all week like we were at the home of some generous relative. Mary and Maurice were on hand as needed throughout our stay to advise and guide us about everything from outings, meals (she has outstanding chefs on hand who can prepare meals as desired), shopping (she drove us to her butcher and baker), and even party planning. On this last point, let me say that she orchestrated a elegant dinner at Coolclogher for my husband's birthday, which included rack of lamb, a homemade birthday cake, and live Irish music and dancing. What a night! I wanted to cry (in fact, I did cry) when we left. Our family always wants to choose a new adventure when planning travel, but we all agree we'll return to Coolclogher!
What an amazing property! Our family spent a week in Mary and Morris's fantastic house. There were eleven of us in total and everyone had tons of space. The bedrooms are huge, bright and airy. Mary and Kathleen keep the house spotless and Morris does a fantastic job on the grounds. With 68 acres you can walk around, sit and contemplate the beauty of Ireland, watch amazing sunsets. It is a peaceful and restorative property. We cooked in the kitchen, which helped on food costs for eleven people. The kitchen is the oldest part of the house and is definitely the heart of the property. I cannot recommend this house enough. If you are going to Ireland, stay with Mary and Morris! We cannot wait to come back!
This was our second stay at Coolclogher House in two years, and we hope to be back again. This place is fantastic in all areas. Hosts Mary and Maurice are delightful, very helpful but not intrusive. The accommodations are top rate, and the pictures don't do justice - all bedrooms very large and each has a great view, and all are en suite. Linens top drawer, and maid service help make life easy. Large kitchen is very well equipped and tends to be the informal gathering place (even has a fireplace!). Easy 2 kilometer or so walk into central Killarney, yet from front door one can't see anything man made! Stroll up the front lawn and at the top is a view of the Lakes of Killarney. At Mary's suggestion and with her help we hired a van and guide driver for the week, less expensive than multiple rentals (and no driving "on the wrong side" for us Yankees). week, less expensive. Everything in description accurate, if anything understated. Real proof of value is we've been there twice and planning on going again.
Our stay at The Coolclogher Estate was absolutely amazing! We could not have been happier! The house itself is a masterpiece, and the grounds were incredible. The owner was a very gracious host. She made sure we had everything we needed and was a wonderful tour guide planner. It was our first trip to Ireland, but not our last. We look forward to our next trip and will most certainly stay at The Coolclogher Estate.
The manor is spacious and relaxing, the grounds are stunningly beautiful, and the owner could not have been more friendly or accommodating. I have traveled extensively, and this is, no question, one of the best places I have ever stayed.
Myself and 11 other golfers stayed at Coolclogher House for a week. It was our home base to play at 7 fantastic golf courses in the most spectacular scenery in all of Ireland. The manor House is replete with fine furnishings and high end appliances and creature comforts. After golf we would socialize outside in the spectacular garden with magnificent views and have a nice meal or barbeque. The Harnetts are top notch hosts and we became fast friends during the week. Needless to say we will be coming back in the future as we had the vacation of a life time. Damian Dupuy
