This is an interesting property that has been charmingly restored.
It is very popular with both couples and families. Entrance to the property is from an attractive sunny patio area with garden furniture and a large BBQ. There are large French doors giving access to the spacious sitting/dining room with comfortable chairs and sofas including a bed settee and satellite TV. There are also doors off the patio into the kitchen with gas cooker and fridge. Stairs from the kitchen lead to a pretty first floor bedroom with some low beams and a further private and secluded patio area and garden. From the kitchen a door leads to the bathroom with full size bath, toilet and large basin. A stone arch leads to the shower room with washing machine and then a door through to the lower bedroom with twin beds.

We stayed the first week in Le Manoir with family and friends - such a fine place to host a goodly number of people. So easy to cater, to eat together and yet to keep some degree of independence as well. The main big room, the terrace and the pool - so well appointed.
Then the two of us shifted to La Porcherie for the second week (once the rest of our group went home). Peter and Nancy provide such good customer service (including the delivery of croissants and baguettes each morning). So nice to have a large pool for regular swimming. And the local village is delightful - one restaurant which is very good indeed; also a Friday night community gathering with food and music. And St Marcel is so conveniently placed for exploring the region - whether kayaking on the Dordogne or exploring the replica cave at Lascaux. Highly recommended.
And, no doubt, it won’t be our last stay here.
A warm welcome from Peter and Nancy makes you feel at home straight away.
This was our third stay at Le Manoir de St Marcel and it’s always interesting to meet other guests who have also stayed there multiple times. There’s obviously something about the place.
La Porcherie comes with everything you need including a welcome pack, which can be useful if you haven’t made a quick stop at the shops on your way.
The large lounge/dining room is a perfect retreat if the sun gets too hot as it’s very easy to keep the room cool by closing the curtains. The kitchen is equipped with all the cutlery and crockery you need and, handily, has a dishwasher. The washing machine is an added bonus.
The choice of two terraces means you can enjoy as much of the sunshine and fresh air as you want with the lower one making an ideal spot to enjoy fresh croissant for breakfast as the sun starts to warm up.
Le Manoir is a great base for exploring Dordogne with all its chateaux and vineyards and is within easy driving distance of local amenities and airports.
Free wifi, swimming pool, games barn, Peters infamous BBQ and a local marche nocturne. What more do you need?
If you are looking for a place to chill out, hide away and relax, this is the perfect spot for you. With a young child to keep happy, here we have found the perfect balance of ‘do nothing’ and ‘let’s explore’. If you want to immerse yourself in French culture, or stick to speaking English all your holiday, either is possible at Le Manoir.
La Porcherie is a characterful and unique property, a former pigsty with the beautiful rustic charm of Perigordian sandstone wall construction. Comfortable and well equipped, one of five properties on the estate, La Porcherie is a real gem. Set in meadow and wooded surrounds, this quiet and tranquil place offers a nature-filled haven. Birds and butterflies abound.
Your British hosts, Nancy and Peter are very experienced in welcoming younger families to their holiday homes and various safety needs and equipment for younger children have been well thought out. They are both friendly and discrete, helpful without being intrusive and are always willing to offer advice on local attractions, places to eat or shop.
There is a large pool, shared with other guests (apart from those at Le Manoir itself who have another for themselves). Never busy, the pool is a wonderful facility for active children or parents who want a relaxing dip during the last sunshine of the day. The games barn with table tennis and pool table is also an attraction.
Le Manoir has a communal covered space where those renting the properties can meet up in the evening to share a glass or two of Bergerac, exchange stories and chat. We have enjoyed spontaneous get-togethers and planned outdoor meals with other guests in the warm evenings.
A special place where you and your family can forget the rat race, enjoy the outdoors, good food and friendly people and build lasting memories. If you wish to write or paint or draw in peace, the tranquillity of Le Manoir is ideal. The perfect antidote to the stress of modern British life. Give Le Manoir a try, je ne regretted rien.
Just returned from this little oasis in France, felt I had been transferred to another planet and the word “relax” started the second we arrived.
Set in the most beautiful countryside, we settled into a comfortable and well equipped Gite. There are 2 swimming pools on site which are far enough away if peace and quiet is required but still only a short walk if you need to cool down. The areas and gardens surrounding the Gite are well kept with beautiful wild flowers mixed with a variety of other plants which attract a stunning array of wildlife. Butterflies are many in number and species including some rare types that can no longer be found in the UK.
Peter and Nancy are great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Always on hand if needed but never intrusive and even ensured we had fresh bread delivered for breakfast.
The Gites are situated around 15 – 20 minutes’ drive from some of regions most beautiful towns and villages and the nearby market in Issigeac is not to be missed. These Gites are perfectly placed to enable guests to sightsee without having to travel for miles but due to the location, offer a private and comfortable area to come back to after a great day out.
I have already booked with Peter and Nancy for next year and would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who is thinking of traveling to this area.
