About Teresa and Steve Magill

Teresa and Steve Magill 'retired' to France in 2005.

When we bought the property, the Stone Barn had already been converted into 4 Gites.

We spent our first winter redecorating, refurbishing, repainting and re furnishing and generally bringing them up to date.

We live here full time with our two sons, a pony and our two lovely friendly dogs, Frank and Betty (!) and two cats. We are both Londoners, real townies, and after 10 years, we still have to stop and listen to the silence.

Of course, we miss 'civilisation' but after two or three days in London, we long to get away from the traffic, the noise, the hustle and bustle and the grime and back to our clean air, our traffic free roads (no traffic lights for 20 kilometres!!!!) and our peace and quiet.

Running the gites was an eye-opener , although I am a qualified chef, we had no experience of this sort of enterprise and the business came ready made so we really hit the ground running. It took us a year or two to get into the swing of dealing with all that was involved, but I think we have got the hang of it now and we have several clients who come back time and time again so we must be doing something right.

We have met (and made friends with) a great many people from all over the world and this has been a hugely enriching experience.

Teresa and Steve Magill purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Teresa and Steve Magill chose Salviac

We had holidayed in Rural France on several occasions, and were really taken with this area. It's green and undulating and fresh and peaceful and clean....... I could go on and on.

When we made the decision to move to France, we probably looked at 30 properties. This old stone farmhouse seemed to fit the bill perfectly and although we did a lot of work to upgrade the gites and then more work on the house, it now works for the whole family and we feel it was worth it.

We are close to a village with an all year community, which was very important to us, as our boys both went to school in Salviac and the locals have made us very welcome. The area is not densely populated but at the same time, we are not completely cut off. The shops still close for lunch for two hours, which takes some getting used to but, hey, we now embrace this very French tradition and do you know what? We think they have got it about right!

What makes this cottage unique

Even in the winter, when the trees are covered in frost, we can wrap ourselves in fleeces and sit outside in the morning with our coffee and crosissants and take in the breathtaking view from our terrace. We may not be earning city salaries, but this is priceless.

We do not charge for cleaning but we expect clients to leave the fridge empty, the oven clean and to remove rubbish to the poubelles. Should the property require what we think is exceptional cleaning, the sum of 50 euros will be deducted from the deposit.

We are not in a position to inspect the gites on the day of departure. We do however do a thorough check as we clean them and prepare for the next client. Your deposit will be returned to you within 14 days of your departure providing the property is left without damage or breakages. Should it be necessary to make a deduction, we will advise in advance and will provide any receipts for repairs or replacement items on request.

Heaven in the Dordoigne

  • 5 of 5

This is in fact very, very simple. We have been here 13 (!!!) times. I guess that we can assume that this doesn't need any more explanation. The location is perfect - the gites are surrounded by a lot of 'green'. The gites themselves have everything you need, they are clean and well-maintained as well as the swimming pool. From this gite, you get a very beautiful view. Activities : just go to the tourist office in the lovely town Salviac at 2 Km from this place : they will provide you all the information you need.

Teresa and Steven are very friendly hosts, they would do everything to keep their guests happy and comfortable. They are doing a fantastic job. Without any doubt, we can recommend this place. This is our paradise for the last 13 years. Regards. Joel & Daniela

A great getaway.

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed with Teresa and Steve at Le Poujols and we will be going again next year. A great relaxing environment with all the facilities needed for couples, families or groups. Teresa and Steve keep their accommodation immaculately clean and know the local area very well so can give tips and advice on local attractions. Located on a hillside in their own grounds with pool and around 30 minutes walk into Salviac makes this a great destination for a relaxing break, or as a base to exploure the Dorogne region and beyond. I really do recommend Le Poujols – far better than motels / hotels that we have used in the past.

Peaceful and Pleasent

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful fortnight here. We were made to feel extremely welcome, it almost felt like home. The owners have obviously spent a lot of time and effort on the accommodation and its shows in the quality. The family are polite and friendly, and have two of the most friendly and loving dogs I've seen. The dogs and our 4 children, were in separable. The dogs sat with us the evenings we stayed in, as thou they were our own. There is plenty of space for children to play on the field or in the pool area. Which was well maintained. On the whole, I would definitely recommend to friends and family, and will be taking my family back here to stay.
