About this property

Walk to Beaches and Experience Classic Cape Cod

Our charming Cape Cod home is part of a quiet, residential Historic Neighborhood (the original 2 rooms of the Captain Rogers House date to 1845), and within walking distance of 2 beaches (1/4 mile to Loop, Riley's closer.) Extensive additions and renovations through the years combine Cape Cod charm with modern comfort. This is a wonderful home for family reunions. There are 3 queen bedrooms (one on first floor with full bath), 1 king room, and 1 triple with twin beds (and private bath). All bedrooms have window air conditioners, and 3 of the upstairs bedrooms also have ceiling fans. All linens are provided.
The house has wireless internet and smart TV, and an outdoor shower. A rare open floor plan creates a light filled living and dining area, and the large screened porch has a second dining table for bugless summer meals. There is a card table with 4 chairs for additional dining seating, or for games and puzzles. A sun-porch lined with large French windows on 2 sides stretches across the front of the house. A 'morning room' for cozy chats or snuggling up with a good book (Kindle?), as well as a reading nook on the upper stair landing gives everyone a place to settle.
Four adult bikes (with helmets) and 3 kids' are available, as well as croquet and badminton sets and other yard games to be set up in the flat backyard for active vacationers. A hammock is there too, for those who wish to snooze. A beach umbrella, beach towels, beach chairs and beach toys (with wagon to transport) are provided. Close proximity to the water is a plus for kayaking and SUP (Stand-Up-Paddleboarding). Cotuit is home to a championship Cape Cod League baseball team (kettleers.org), and the picturesque ballpark is nearby.
The Village includes a local market with prepared foods, as well as delicious fresh baked goods & coffee (a recommended start to your day). The Post Office, church, restaurant/pub, and town dock are nearby, as is the library, which offers a full schedule of family activities. A playground is nestled between the church and the library.
Shopping and groceries are 1 stoplight away on Route 28, and Mashpee Commons, featuring national chain stores, a movie theater and restaurants is just a few miles from the house. A beach pass is provided, good at all Barnstable beaches and everywhere that requires a resident permit for parking in Barnstable county.

Comfortable, spacious house in terrific location
The three best things about this house are location, location, and location. It is within easy walking distance of two small but uncrowded beaches with amazingly warm water (even for August) and a short bike or drive to an almost deserted, large beach (Oregon beach, where even the extremely limited parking area was never full. It is also close to restaurants and shops, and ~20 min drive to the Shining Seas Bikeway. The house is very comfortable, with great beds and linens; the outstanding feature is the huge screened porch where we ate almost all of our meals. The kitchen (soon to be renovated, according to the owners) is very 1950s in decor, but outstandingly outfitted with cooking equipment and utensils, as well as an excellent outdoor grill. We were initially concerned about the address on "Main Street," but it turned out to have very little traffic (it becomes a dead end a few blocks beyond the house) and completely quiet at night. The main traffic appeared to be people walking a wide variety of friendly dogs! Finally, the local manager was very friendly and seemed very responsive. He told us that on a previous weekend, when the refrigerator failed, he bought and installed a new one within hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Perfect Cape Cod Escape!
Words cannot express what a wonderful family vacation we had at the Captain Rogers House! The home is so well-equipped and has absolutely everything you could want or need from linens to kitchen supplies to beach gear and lawn games. Our family members ranged in age from 5 to 70 and there was truly something for everyone. The town is small and quiet but so beautiful and quaint and peaceful. We enjoyed riding bikes to the beach and the market, playing badminton in the flat and grassy yard, watching the World Cup at the Kettle Ho pub, and rooting for the local Cape league baseball team at the ballpark down the road. We went to the beach every day and during the weekdays had it almost all to ourselves. We ate every meal on the screened-in porch, which was always breezy and just the right temperature. Communication with Nancy was always friendly and prompt, and she really thought of everything. We arrived to find a sweet welcome bucket filled with wine and candles to celebrate my mom's birthday and little treats for the kids. We felt so cared for during our entire stay and could not have asked for anything more!

Great house close to beach.
We recently stayed at the Captain Rogers house. We were 10 people in total - 4 adults and 6 kids (4 or which were teenagers!) The walk to beach and store were perfect for them. They enjoyed taking one of the 4 bikes at the house and exploring the area. The house itself fit us comfortably and we couldn't get over the beds! It was the first time we renting a house where we didn't dread going to sleep. Most of the house - including bedrooms and bathrooms - has been updated and has everything you need to make this a great beach vacation. This house would be perfect for a big family with multiple generations as there is a wing on the first floor with sitting area, bedroom and bath. Also a great house for people with young child who might have to return to the house from the beach often. The beach in walking distance is very calm and inviting for younger children. Everyone in the area was very nice an helpful with any problems or questions we had. I would recommend this house to anyone looking in the Cotuit area which is a hidden treasure. Beauty beyonds words!

About the host

Host profile image
We are a family of 10 whose relatives are scattered geographically,
so sharing summer vacations has always been important to us. As our daughters have grown (and brought home husbands and children), we love having a place to gather where everyone has space for their own vacation, but where we still share time together. The Captain Rogers House is a family home, and has provided us with a wonderful place to relax, enjoy one another, and build lasting family memories. It's ideal for a multiple generation family reunion.

Why they chose this property

We're the 2nd generation to own the house since its purchase in the 1970s,
but it was also owned by a distant cousin in previous generations (which wasn't known at the time of purchase!). Our family has deep roots in Cotuit, and we love sharing our favorite place with others who value the same kinds of summers that we do.

What makes this property unique

Being within walking distance to the beach makes for a totally different experience. We are so spoiled! It gives independence to younger members of the family who can't yet drive, and makes it easy to go for an hour (or the day) without packing up the car and needing everyone to be on the same schedule. The flat backyard has been a wonderful space for many activities -- including the brother-in-laws annual wiffle ball tournament! Cotuit is a rare unspoiled villlage on the Cape, yet still close to every convenience, and we love the ease of doing what we want without hassle.
The extent of our renovation was unexpected, but has allowed us to reveal long covered wood floors, create a totally new hall bath, raise the 2nd floor ceilings (originally 6 feet!) combine old family furniture with new fun finds, and view things with fresh eyes. Combining comfort and respecting the history of the house, making large and small group gathering areas, and dreaming up new plans for the coming years has been so much fun -- and is ongoing! It's a happy house, and we love to share it. Contact owner for multi payment plan.
