A handsome villa in a spectacular setting 10 min from Aix en Provence

Updated: 11-May-2016
3 Bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms plus 1 separate toilet; sleeps 6

This is a large, comfortable house, with a large swimming pool surrounded by elaborate and beautifully kept gardens, the home to a professional sculptor; whose art you can admire in and outdoors. It is on a south-facing slope just outside of Aix en Provence, town of Paul Cezanne. Aix is also a host to numerous cultural events that should not be missed. This property has a view over the Provencal countryside, a summer kitchen on a shaded terrace facing the pool, and enjoys total silence, 24 hours a day. A further terrace is arranged as a greenhouse, inviting for a quiet breakfast or giving shelter in the very few rainy days.

Sport Close By: '4km from the house is the golf club “Les Mille”, one of the oldest in France, Another one is next door from the house; horseback riding is possible in 3 clubs in the vicinity.

An independant studio on the property is occupied by a cousin of the family. He is absent very often and has no access to the pool an the only thing one may see of him is his car on the parking

Dear Jurgen

Just a note to say that we had another wonderful holiday in La Boisse, sometimes when one returns to the same place it does not quite live up to expectations, it was even better this year all expectations were surpassed.

Will you let me know when you start to take bookings for next year. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Our family consists of two adults, a 20yr old daughter at university and a 17yr old son still at school. We all get on but need our own space.

We chose this property because it was spacious inside the house, good bedrooms and spacious outside in various parts of the garden which is on different levels so that we would not be on top of each other. It also has a good sized pool which was very important to us but has very little shallow end (I would be nervous with young children or non-swimmers as the pool is hidden from the house. The owner did advise that they had some form of alarm). The pool was our focus on days that we remained at the property and we looked forward to returning for a refreshing dip after days out in 30 degrees or so. The garden really does have different seating areas for different times of the day. Excellent semi-covered bbq area with good sized gas bbq, sink, fridge is by the pool. Eating areas in 3/4 different parts of the garden one of which is in a conservatory area in case it's chilly or even raining.

The property is very tastefully decorated and is comfortable with dining area, living area, tv/reading area. Good tv and dvd player. Owner was unsuccessful in connecting our laptop to internet access.

Situated on a hillside with lovely views. Interesting for morning walks. Lovely hilltop village about 25mins nice walk or 5 mins drive. Good butchers, boulangeries, cremerie, fruit and veg shop and everyone we met was extremely welcoming. Useful tourist information office.

An excellent Geant Casino hypermarket about 15 mins drive towards Aix.

The short hillside roads to the property are quite narrow as is the entrance to the property and driving a large vehicle such as a people carrier can be tricky but not impossible.

We didn't want to limit ourselves to a 'beach holiday' and the property is only about 35 mins from Marseilles and the coast, 15/20mins from Aix-en-Provence centre and interesting places such as Arles, Avignon, Cassis are very accessible. Weather was excellent and the pool beckons after a trip out!

Extremely relaxing. Although there are a number of properties built on the hillside we were not aware of any intrusive noise.

Aix is very accessible for concerts or theatre etc and we were even able to join in with our little village's celebrations of Bastille Day with fireworks and dancing afterwards.

In short, property description seemed accurate and we would recommend this property to a friend.

We are a short, agreeable walk from the lovely Provencal village of Eguilles, on a wooded, secluded property that has been lovingly planted and cared for by an owner who loves to garden. Eguilles has wonderful markets --you'll love our local rosé -- and a fine bakery, vegetable/fruit market, butcher and regional speciality shops. We are a short drive from the beaches of the Mediterranean and the cultural amenities of Aix-en Provence, perhaps the single loveliest city in all of Europe. Throughout the Summer, the region surrounding Aix hosts a panorama of musical, artistic and theatrical events, including the Festival of Aix en Provence (opera, concerts, theatre); the piano festival of La Roque d'Antheron, the Summer Festival of Avignon (theatre, music) and others almost too numerous to mention. The nearby National Park of the Luberon is one of the finest hiking areas in all of France.

Other Activities: In June Important musical festivals in AIX, classic and jazz, that should not be missed.

  • Our house includes at least four places to eat. We have a large dining area that seats up to 15 near the indoor kitchen. We also have a breakfast room that seats 6; and the summer kitchen has a dining area that can accommodate 20 or more people. There is a lovely rest area in the greenhouse, inviting for breakfast, 5 o'clock tea, or a quiet snooze. This is also a marvellous shelter for the very rare rainy days. Finally we have a number of tables for small groups at various terraces near the pool and elsewhere. From almost all of these sitting areas, you will be able to enjoy the view of the house and the pool and the garden; and from most of them you will also be able to see one or more of the sculptures created by the owner, many of which she has scattered around the garden. (Modesty forbids a more elaborate description of the work, which we think is beautiful, amusing and original: we will look forward to your comments after you've had a chance to make your own assessment!)
